The unicorn is a 2500 with the 350 motor. Get all the beefy suspension, and I'm pretty sure the 4L80 too! But still get double digit MPGs. 20 is definitely a stretch though!
When I bought my 92 1500 in 2001, I drove it from Albuquerque to Layton, UT through the 4 Corners area and got 19 mpg! I still drive this truck but since I moved to the Buffalo NY area, the rust has started. To answer that, I just bought a 1995 1500 in Albuquerque with no engine or transmission. The 350 and 700R4 will soon be in a new home. I've been following your page for mechanical upgrade ideas and hopefully to you for interior designs
i was offered a 8th gen 1500 for free with a bad trans, runs and drives fine with OD off, shudders when shifting into OD. no body rust, but some other minor issues (fuel gauge/sender). Think this is a good starting point, or find another?
Youve gotta let me teach you more on the 6.5L Detroit diesel 😂

Definitely a good drivetrain
I had one once with that combo. I wish I'd never gotten rid of it.
My 1996 k2500 has the vortec 7.4 and it runs mint at 205k. 3.73 gears make for pretty good mpg onnthe highway too

Got a 94 k2500 and love driving it. Definitely thirsty with the 454 though...and the supercharger doesn't help the happy foot
What are those old suburbans going for?
2-12k
Thanks
