Hey guys great video as aways. I'm with Chris on the dishes....sorry Liv.
When I plan on leaving my traps in after sunset i place a small piece of reflective tape on the flags. Walk out the shanty hit the traps with your flashlight and super easy to see if you have a flag or not.

    Great video!
I bring paper towels in my cook kit I wipe the pans then I boil small amounts of snow or water in them wipe again with another clean paper towel. I don't use soap on them. The boiling water cuts the grease and sanitizes the pans I bring paper plates to eat off. I always bring a couple trash bags as well one for trash one for fish if I have any luck. LOL

When fishing becomes the main reason we are fishing we will do the things necessary to bring in the fish. The fish are speaking. Are we listening? A 3-flag day with no fish. Even no flags can reveal much. Are the bait active or chewed-up? Trout and salmon can be finicky. We have to be willing to do whatever is necessary. But are we willing? If we don't have a fish finder, drill many holes over a broad area (especially across drop-offs and channels), carry around a seat, and jig a few minutes every 10 feet up until you start getting strikes. This is preferable than committing to a few flag-less holes all day. Maybe 3 to 6 lb. clear polycarbon leader. Only a small, Matte black barrel snap swivel for weight. If you must have more weight, try a tiny, sliding Matte black tungsten weight. Make sure your bait are active. Hook them only skin deep just in front of the dorsal fin pointing towards the head. Use small hooks. Maybe 6 to 10. And now for the most controversial part. On days like this, you may need tip-ups that will tip up at the least bump from a fish (expect some wind and bait flags). We have been surrounded by fishermen, professional guides, professors, and pastors alike, using these kinds of traps, and not have a single flag, while we pulled them in all day. Even after telling a few of the curious what we were doing, rarely would anyone change. Pride is no friend. Most would leave cursing, a few would put a positive spin on it. But likely all would rather have caught fish! Why freeze your tail off and spend all that money just for the memories? Every day on the ice goes better with fish. Most anyone can catch a stocker. But it takes skill to catch native fish on those off days. We've all had them.
