It's no surprise, really. Spring Man, Min Min and Byte (and now Max Brass) have a "punch deflection" mechanic. Master Mummy and Mechanica (and now Max Brass) have a super armor mechanic. There are other abilities that are shared between at least two characters in one way or another, as well. Either way, he looks fun.
Can we just take a second to appreciate the brilliancy that went into this character design?

He's a secret character and the only way to unlock him is you have to get all perfect on level 7 grand prix as every character in the game and then you'll have a secret battle against Mr Yabuki and you'll have beat him without getting hit once and once you do all that then you unlock Mr Yabuki

5 years later and he is still in my top 5 favorite Nintendo characters. I'll be awaiting for a sequel to this game. The Brass is the true champ.
I like to imagine that when they announced the next character would be from arms, that the arms characters had an actual arms tournament to decide who would go.

I just got ARMS about an hour ago as of writing this. From what I see so far, to me it kinda feels like Spring Man, Max Brass, and Springtron are all in a “Similar but not quite the same” situation. Like a pool of traits and mechanics all three draw from, but because no two share the exact same combination of features, the playstyle will vary between them. At least thats how I’m picturing it with the info I have so far.
Here’s a summary of traits, using my own short-hand naming, as well as whether a trait is more positive or negative overall:
*Spring Man:*

*Max Brass:*

There is a lot to like about Max Brass but I think my favorite thing about him is the fact his throw has him bouncing the opponent off his huge, beautiful chest.
Love the ancient Mayan aesthetic, love the fist mohawk, love how much he reminds me of the Crimson Chin.
