Thanks for the great video! Recovery tracks, a shovel and a high lift jack is seriously necessary. I got bogged ( stupidly but that's beside the poijt) in my landy 110 to the diffs in a big 5 area. No shovel, no hilift baseplate, no winch. I was stuck for a very long time with a very sore head when the hilift handle came down on my head. It sank into black cotton mud and couldn't lift the vehicle enough to get brash mats underneath the wheels. No rope to use it as a winch. Stuck, sore and very thirsty by the time help came. The help in a 4x4 tractor promptly got stuck after the recovery and sat there for 3 weeks. I couldn't walk out because of the proximity of lion. Lesson learned.
Hi Nic Thank you for the uploads and info of all your vids. Frank is looking mint and as you said, its what you need and van afford. Keep up all the epic adventures 👍👍👍👍
. P.S. The first aid kit is essential as is the fire extingusher. I've needed burn treatment for myself, splnts, bandages and wound dresings for a number of fellow road users in accidents. The fire extinguisher for a camp stove accident and a burning car colision. Both times it was invaluable in saving a tent and a car. The right size is important to. A traveler to the CKGR refused to upsize his fire extinguisher and neary killed his family when his Honda CRV burnt out in dry grass on a remote jeep track. Luckily a ranger was doing a 6 week patrol and saw him. They proceeded straight to the scene where his family were sheltering in the hot shel of the vehiclesxwith a pride of lions circling them. Don't underestimate Africa, it can kil.
cant agree more...I have an extensive first aid kit, actually 2 and done many first aid courses. But my fire extinguisher is not big enough. Definitely need a bigger one and its always a good idea to have one in the front and one in the back
Cool vid. I think the new fuel prices are pushing us all closer to the weekend warrior 1 day trip lifestyle. But cool to see how much you do with less.👌
Looks fantastic, thank you. It was very briefly in the video but how the rear lead springs holding up? The more I look at builds with double cabs the more I think it will have to be the way to go as a family for travel. Thanks for sharing.
At one point I was obsessed with replacing the suspension, but garages in Namibia and Cape Town told me im being silly, nothing wrong with the suspension. It's still good, replaced the bushes a while ago, with polyurethane. The previous owner added an extra leave, i think that's why the rear sometimes pushes up, it wants more weight. But Im happy l. Like I mentioned, its probably not the most comfortable in the world, but not something that must be done.
hi Nic seen a number of your programmes and find mostly informative. being a regular visitor to the Kalahari and have toured Namibia its good to collate with some of your destinations i also remember one of your programmes you were thanking your sponsors , being a cape town hammer i couldn't help but notice the shirt you are wearing,. do Westham sponsor you Adrian
I wish🙂 just love the team⚒️ was fortunate to live in East London many years ago and visit the stadium. My sponsors are private persons through patreon. But great to meet another Hammers supporter, especially from Africa.
Hey Nic, hope you are doing well. Thanks for the informative videos. I have a few questions that hopefully you can answer for me. 1. Your water tank inside the cab, does the water not slosh around in the tank and make a noise? 2. Your fridge in the cab, does the heat from the fridge not keep your cabin hot? 3. With the size fridge you have, could you run your fridge off your jackery? Keep on trucking mate.
All good, thanks Neil. Just came out of Liuwa Plains NP in Zambia. 1. Yes, and it gets worse the emptier it gets. You get used to it... 2. Not at all, removed the cover to get rid of the heat faster. I think my window tint helps a lot. 3. 42lt, you can, for about 12hrs non stop without charging the Jackery. But that is emergency back up for me only. Will do👍😁
Very nice video Nic, I like the fact that you have only the basics and the word many reviewers forget which you mentioned few times is budget and what you can afford (many of us in that boat (😁). Also like the basic 12v setup for lighting and fridge with the Jackery for electronics. Working on my vehicle setup and definitely want to use yours as a blue print. Aside from noise what’s the water tank issues?
Thanks Henk. The big draw back for me with the "fancier" electrical set ups, is that it takes up a lot of space. Everything you add has a compromise somewhere. 100% correct, its the noise. As long as its full no problem, but once you take a liter out...
Nick , speak with some executives ; directly at Range Rover for a “Sponsor Range Rover” as you travel Africa ( will be a Great Marketing/advertising) for them as a Sponsor // option 2 : NEW OR USED RANGE ROVER ; $50,000 / 10 years / 12 months = $ 400 per month // nick ...it’s all about the the “Wheels” ..and you can call the Range Rover “ The Road Warrior” !!!
Hi mate, Awsome content, fantastic wilderness to explore over there. Just wondering what brand of canopy you have ? We have nothing remotely similar to that here in Australia. Cheers
Howzit Nic! Very nice walk around, thanks. I also drive an SRX (2012 d4d 2.5) and also believe in keeping things simple and functional. I think long and hard about every addition to my build. May I ask what size tires you run?
Thanks Con. I wanted to keep it even simpler, but carried away a bit🙂 it is the 31x10.5xR15s Check the video description for more specific details of all the products.
it is a more pricey option, but I like that I dont need an extensive installation to charge by electronics. You can order directly from them in SA or at Outdoor Warehouse
It's the noise. When its 100% full, no problem but as soon as you take a liter out, the water inside is continuously moving around, bumping against the sides of the tank. And all of that noise is right behind you.
Hey Dru, Im still alive....just had to stop the trip due to some personal reasons. Been reflecting... will probably restart soon, but with more local content and as a hobby not full time
Like the simplicity of what you say yes to - I love reminding the guys who take too much that you can hike with 20kg on your back, why take tons?

Hi Nick from Namibia, Nola from Chingola here, useful info for our Africa trip in three years
Just love your channel. You made me love westham (hummers) and Toyota hilux
haha, thanks!
I love this type of videos especially the down to earth 🌎 once where no sponsoring and on a budget. Keep it up 👍
Thanks Tommy, appreciate the comment. What Ive set out to do from the beginning and keeping it that way👍

haha, wouldn't mind that, but the price😅

thanks, locally🇳🇦 made by a company called Oryx Aluminium
@@NickfrNamibia great thank you, will have to check them out

I use a GoPro 8 & 10 and a Canon M50 MKII as well

I did not know there is a petrol version of Hilux (I thought they are all diesel)...you learn something daily.
really? where are you from? They are common in southern Africa
@@NickfrNamibia i’m currently in the US but when i was living in asia, all Hilux we used are diesel powered
Oh ok, that's why I asked, was wondering where it is like this
What happened to your winch idea after the recovery at Cornie's?
Decided against it after getting the vehicle weighed. Had to make some adjustments to remain under GVM
@@NickfrNamibia We had to make the same decision.... just checking :-)
I’m assuming the issue with the water tank is weight.
It's the noise. When its 100% full, no problem but as soon as you take a liter out, the water inside is continuously moving around, bumping against the sides of the tank. And all of that noise is right behind you.
@@NickfrNamibia I can imagine 😂😂😂. I’m sure the build will continue being improved as we go.
@@maxlodewyk_na definitely, i dont think it's something that's ever done

👍👍👍
Why not a whinch? Would like to here your thoughts.
Only because of the weight, but will probably be fitting one soon
Thought so, Maybe a smaller winch with snatch blocks and extra winch rope since you may not use it regularly. I enjoy the simplicity of your set up.👍
@@hansenslin5230 Thanks Hans, received a winch from my uncle, so going smaller isn't an option, but I'll proably replace the wire with rope
Anybody know what's going on with Nick? He is gone quiet for too long since launching this channel
