I've wanted one of these since the late 70s, when Doyle had a white one with a black vinyl roof in The Professionals. Apparently the one they used for filming was a custom model with a factory sunroof, as it was so dark inside that interior scenes were hard to shoot
One of the most fun cars I ever had was a “W” Reg (1981/2) Fiesta XR2. Absolutely awesome to drive and was pretty quick and handled very well. Wish I still had it. It was brand new.

@@nigelbeaumont1109 Yep, I remember my brother's in-laws buying a brand new Y reg black XR2 in July 83 so they could avoid the new A reg rush. I'd never been in a car that handed like that before. It definitely wasn't an XR2 (or at least it wasn't original) if it had Recaros; all XR2s came with light grey pinstripe seats. The Supersport DID have Recaros though?

Had 2 RS2000, white and midnight blue. Agree not the fastest around, but just felt special driving. Went to Denmark twice in blue one, didn't miss a beat. One fuzz in base RS with recaro fishnet seats.
I worked in a Ford main dealer when these were new and I was in awe of them. I believe the RS2000 was made in Germany and the difference in quality really showed. I was always mad for one ever since but don't think they are worth anywhere near the money they are making these days. In fact now I feel that they are a bit plain compared to my beautiful 1991 BMW E30 325i.
Not a custom model, full height door cards if it was, same interior on the escort Harrier, love the java green, i had a 1600 sport, Mexico spec back in the day, i still remember the polished RS alloy.
Reply to smith stars sad comment I had a black rs2000customnwith twin 40s vernier. Timing gear balanced crankshaft lsd etc. I was 21at the time people used to put stickers on it with phone numbers it. Had not a bit of rust the fun a had in this. Car with the revs it could pull with the hi lift cam I will never forget if you’ve never owned one you will not get it as your thickish cement proves yours Greg ps I had two and my brother had a Mexico in bronze 😊
the only heart condition i ever got from owning a blue oval bin was how many times it went on a recovery truck lol...A lot more car class for 25k out there
Not sure buying an RS2000 and keeping it for 10 - 15 years is a wise move if its investment appreciation your mainly thinking of. Its old stodgers like me (63) with the money to buy these that's keeping the prices up. These cars were dream cars to teenagers and twenty somethings like me in the late 70's and classic car prices depend heavily on the nostalgia factor of the generation that existed when they were new. In 10 - 15 years the likes of me will be more concerned about the price of invalid chairs and nursing home fee's. So buy by all means but if your intent on keeping it long term bear this in mind.
The rally heritage of the Escorts means they will always be well regarded even if the original owners are dead. It's such an iconic car. I had a Mk2 myself in the early 90s. A lowly 1300 4 door ,but I enjoyed it- especially in the snow.
It's all rose tinted glasses, if your old enough to have driven cars like these, nothing that special. Look great compared to modern stuff, but crazy prices. Love them fish net recaros.
The sunroof would stop me from buying this car ...If you buy an RS 2000 then it MUST be correct and "Bog standard" .. No silly modifications Yes I am well aware that they only had around 110 BHP (ish) from an 8valve 2.0 Litre carb fed engine. But for me this adds to the period this car is from ..This was "The standard" back then. The word "Fast" had a different meaning in the late 1970s.....If you want a faster car then just buy a BMW M3 etc
Say what they like about it being driven....we all know it will end up as a garage queen....they all do. You wonr see this out every weekend. Most are now only bought by speculating investors whose peimary concern is what they can get fo it in 5 10 15 years time not about the enjpyment of owning and driving it.shame.
@@rampantram1 yes that's right seen it done you all ways end up with a vinyl roof then because there will be slight imperfections and ripples in the paint where this has been done these roofs back in the day we're popular we used to fit them because bout half the price of the proper Ford sliding roof what a mistake!

Believe me I've seen a lot of 'middle aged' folk wearing this stuff and some a lot older and does it really matter when there is so many other things to think about which are more important? Saying that, it's interesting really as some people especially now don't seem to fit the designated pigeon hole categories of either "young", "middle aged" or "old".

The production of the Escort MK2 ends with the introduction of the front driven Escort 3 1979, so it is not a car of the 80ties-90ties

I had a red mk2 Cav LXi in 1988 and a guy I worked with had a white Mk2 Mex that he wanted to swop me. I kept the Cav 😢

The RHD cars were made at Halewood in UK, LHD were made in Genk in Belgium, not Germany...
I suspect that interior is wrong, it definitely shouldn’t have fishnets if it’s a base model, and it would originally been on steelies not alloys
It's right, the Recaro seats and alloys were an option on the base model.

They were ok if you looked after them change the oil very often and the lube bar on the camshaft

Sadly you won't be able to leave this car if your out and about even new they were being nicked so often..So 25k to give yourself a heart condition

Had loads of these back in the day that stupid cheap pop up glass sunroof popular then put me off this car completely
you can take it out and cut a piece of steel and weld it in respray roof and new headliner
