When true artist get together IT IS NOT about outdoing each other ...It's about the Music
I Luv Innovative Music Only D’Angelo can sing.
Facts
Their falsetto harmonies sounded great. They worked really well together. Stop hatin' on Clapton.
How can anyone hate on Clapton he's a genius
Someone hates Clapton? Who?
Dope💟
it amaze me how D sings So easilly DAMN !!
There is no stopping D'Angelo on this! But give Clapton a break, guys - he did a pretty damn amazing job himself. His falsetto was exact, and wasn't supposed to be powerful like D'Angelo's on this.
true, i was too hard on clapton. tried singing this song myself (bwahaha) and realized how hard it is to hit those notes! these dudes make it seem easy. :)
D'angelo is his prime. Wish I could have seen him live
Wish that same shit too
Still is in his prime
@@gregc7699 He's gonna be hot all the way to his deathbed.
Beautiful harmonizing by these 2 super greats!!
Definetly
This performance almost left me emotional when I first saw this. The spirit of Curtis Mayfield was definitely on Eric Clapton and the great D'Angelo! Beautiful tribute to Curtis, may GOD rest his soul.
I almost feel for Clapton here. D'angelo sounds oh so soulful! Beautiful performance by the two of them, regardless.
+Eli Rhodes .....I feel you but Clapton definitely holding his own...especially in the harmonizing...lol
Why feel for Slowhand? He held his own quite beautiffully on harmony vocals, letting D'Angelo take lead.
Don't see what the issue is. Clapton sounds good to me and they are both harmonising beautifully.
I almost feel for you, who envys
BIGGEST RESPECT TO ERIC CLAPTON but I’ve listened to this 100+ times and I’m thoroughly convinced D’angelo would have absolutely shredded this performance solo
Wow this was great !!! I didnt know Clapton could sustain falsetto anymore. Lot of haters in the comments. D'Angelo taking it easy with Slowhand. Because he realizes its a tribute to Curtis Mayfield. Not a competition. Clapton isn't really a singer like that. Well done by both. Never saw it before.
It’s Perfect. Not sure why others are so negative on Clapton. This isn’t The Voice. The aim for a singer, regardless of range or ability, is to convey expression, emotion, or even vulnerability. Clapton holds his end down. D’angelo has a wide range. Together It works.
People are negative on Clapton because he fucked up royally in the 70s with some deep racial shit.
D'angelo is absolutely amazing here
D'Angelo & Eric Did A hell. of A job, can Representing
Curtis Mayfield,
People, Clapton was accompanying D'angelo on guitar and back-up singing and did it well. We don't need to be told who the main vocalist here so be cool. He did Curtis Mayfield proud.
Amazing performance by both Eric Clapton and D’Angelo😎
Some of y'all need to knock it off......it's about the tribute to Big Curtis. Rest in power King Curtis, may I see u in heaven.
So sad Curtis was paralyzed, Superfly is such a great album. He will be missed🙌🏻
D'Angelo & Eric Clapton - I've Been Trying...A beautiful tribute to the late Great Curtis Mayfield by two great artists...R.I.E.P. Mr Mayfield
A beautiful tribute to a beautiful soul.
Something incredibly beautiful and spiritual about this performance.
Damn. I figured this collaboration was gonna be good but I didn't expect it to be this good. That harmony though 🙌
Can't believe I've never seen this before, this should be legendary. Beautiful meeting of two legends from different corners and generations of music.
ofcoz LIVE performances r D'angelo's bread and butter...not suprised at this exhibition he put out..."Live At the Jazz Cafe in London" is still one of the best LIVE albums i've ever heard.
Facts!
I love two of them! So soothing
What a great time to be alive to witness these greats.. RIP Curtis Mayfield
Nice!!!!
I absolutely love this
take it for what it is....an excellent tribute by both artists!!!!!
daym....step aside vocally eric...effortless d'angelo..
What a gem! Great job. Curtis Mayfield and The Impressions. Music like no other.

D'Angelo, Eric B BLESSED 🙏🙏🙏
Clapton is one of the most legendary guitarists of all time, hands down. All honor and respect due.
But damn does D'Angelo makes him look bad vocally here. And it's not like D'Angelo is trying to do that.
He's holding back, if anything.
+morpheusxnyc - Eric Clapton was never a singer originally - Jack Bruce was the lead singer in Cream etc. I am surprised he is keeping up as well as he does.
+morpheusxnyc If i recall correctly, Eric Clapton never wanted to be a singer but he always had a really rather normal cozy voice that attracted a lot of fans.
modifiedcontent I know, though he did sing on a lot of Cream songs. Again, I don't mean to kick sand in the legend's face or anything.
I'm now learning how to play the electric guitar based almost purely on inspiration by him, so trust that I'm not some hater.
But the vocal contrast in this video is pretty stark. That's all I'm saying...
+morpheusxnyc I am actually surprised everytime I hear this. I love Clapton's vocals here, and i'm not that big of his vocals otherwise.
***** Hey, look. Clapton is my guitar hero. I play "Sunshine of Your Love" almost daily on my Fender strat as a warm up, so you're not talking to someone who doesn't love, honor and fully appreciate Slowhand.
But if I'm being honest, he sound like Herbert the Pervert from Family Guy compared to D'Angelo, who as I said, is holding back.
they where locked in tight . sounded awesome !
Beautiful combination plus one of my favorites by the Impressions
Eric Clapton is amazing. & a legend for sure. But vocally, D'Angelo really outshines him here. Amazing tribute nonetheless.
his voice here really makes me want to hear him sing Sam Cooke! i know he doesn't usually go for the obvious soul covers like that, but damn it would be great
orangedoorhinge i agree sam cooke and dangelo are my top singers of all time
Agreed
Clapton also - despite the many hits he has had - is really a guitarist first, singer second.
Clapton is a guitarist... not really a vocalist. This shouldn't be news.
We need this on the radio..NOW!
Wow 😮… excellence…
Love this
The impressions man good stuff ... clapton did great
these 2 together are the top of the top singing...I can repeat this song 30 times in a row...the easiness they play

Wow, this is an amazing collaboration between two fantastic musicians all thanks to the genius of Curtis Mayfield. This song reminds me of 'She's a Fox' by The Icemen with Jimi Hendrix. You all should check that out on UA-cam if you enjoy this track. John Legend and Amy Winehouse sampled it in recent memory. Can't go wrong with this progression.
Que bello D'Angelo y que cool, esa sonrisa al final de saberse un talento inconmensurable!
One of. The greatest ❤🙏🙏🙏🤓👍😁
dope!!
Going waay back..Sweet, NICE, Pretty Cool..Curtis Mayfield is Missed..
Everyone talking shit about Clapton here. 1% of musicians could hold their own with D'Angelo vocally. I thought Clapton did a great job.
You thought wrong
Lol the people chirping Clapton clearly have no clue what they’re talking about
clapton is singing in the same curtis did
@@MsExcool Pretty much. If you bother to listen to any Curtis Mayfield songs, he has a very soft falsetto. D'Angelo would have overpowered him if he were still alive.
D’Angelo man 🙆🏾♂️🙆🏾♂️🙆🏾♂️
Great version
wow, thank you! this is beautiful. but i gotta say, d'angelo's voice puts eric clapton's to shame here. you don't hear enough of that gritty mid-range tone enough outside of church. SO MUCH SOUL, so effortless too and not oversung. should've just let D' sing the whole darn thing (no offense to clapton the legend).
ahh that fuckin look. d looks at clap. clap looks back. "fuck.yea son that was on point"
RIP CURTIS!
Clapton is a boss, like its not everyday they let. Someone play on a Beatles track
Agree that Clapton should only have joined in on the harmonies, but damn - this is still a beautiful collaboration
Sure, D'Angelo is the singer here. But no matter how good he is, Erics voice sounds pretty good, (as a singer, he is somewhat underestimated, I think) and together they sound great. And remember, it's not about competition, it's about how musical you sound. So Clapton is not put to shame here at all, on the contrary, he's right up there, with D'Angelo. Who would have thought this unlikely combination would sound that good?
+Ulbo de Sitter No he is not. I like Eric and I am sure he will be the first to say, this was not his best. The great Curtis Mayfield and the Impressions are cut from a different cloth. 60's Harmony with a Gospel background from Sam Cooke, Jerry Butler and Curtis Mayfield who made up the Gospel Group the Soul Stirrers. D' Angelo also come from the same Gospel background. This tune was done in that vein as it is an oldie. Eric does not have the background or the vocals for this. So no he is not up there with D'Angelo, who held back for him. But there is definitely no shame in getting together to honor a legend like Curtis Mayfield singing this great tune! Eric always honors the greats whose music he has borrowed from.
+msrubie11 You're dismissing a large part of Clapton's career, since he's played the blues most of it - which isn't his background.
PJ
Actually I am not. The Blues existed and flourished long before Eric, Mick and the Beatles attempted to copy the sound in England. For one thing the vocals of those Black Artists created Gospel, out of that came the Blues straight out of the Cotton Fields, out of that came R&B and Rock & Roll, out of that Jazz. All other popular music is just a replication of the originals.
I like Eric Clapton and think he is talented as well as respectful of what he has borrowed and grew rich from. Many are not. But make no mistake about it. He was out of his vocal abilities on this song. Blues come from a life of Black pain that Eric and no white musicians could never share with us. That pain is in the music we sing.
The vocal talent of Black musicians male and female have been ingrained from birth. There are Blacks who have never sung professionally who are parents of the Black Superstars you see in music today. D'angelo came out of the Black church. His parents musically abilities was passed down from those Cotton Fields.
I exclude Hip Hop, but REAL BLACK MUSIC, is something Eric and other white musicians don't have the ability to replicate in it's original form, they don't share the history or the genetics. Every Blue Moon you get a Tina Marie, but that is every Blue Moon. I don't see that disrespecting Eric, I see it as telling a truth that I don't think he would disagree with.
msrubie11 I don't know what you're saying. I said that blues isn't Clapton's background. (And I think he would agree that the Impressions sing it better, but I also think D'Angelo would say Curtis sing better.) I know the background of the blues, and everyone knows it doesn't come from England which is what you seem to think I think. House, funk, hip hop... is "real" black music too. I don't see a need on bashing on hip hop in this instance. How do you draw the line on what's "real" and what white musicians can't replicate? Does this extend beyond the vocals, to instruments? Is it "real black music" if the artist is black but not have that background?
He may have been out of his vocal abilities on this song, but I still really like it.
I think Eric sounds great here and his voice works well with D'angelo's.
It's all about Mr. Mayfield.

Nice,
stop comparing them, their two completely different artists, of course their gonna sound different
Of course if you wanna hear the best version, listen to The Impressions.
wow
Wow. The one thumbs down had to be a mistake
wow.
Wow, two years ago I posted a reaction to this fantastic tribute, and it evoked a pretty interesting discussion about the blackness/whiteness of music. Let's dwell on this subject a little more... I really don't know wether a white person can or cannot play black music as well or emotionally intense and meaningful as a black person. My first thought would be that it isn't a question of being black or white, but a question of musicianship. Being black or being white: not important. But having said that, if your culture produced a certain kind of music with its own unique means of expression (blues, flamenco, gipsy jazz) it would seem to me that if you are a member of that particular culture and the music of that culture that has been there for generations is passed on to you, that would certainly mean that you have a deeper understanding (intellectually, emotionally) of that music. It might even be there on a genetic level, and therefore you are probably a better performer of that music.
But that would mean that Jessye Norman would not be as great an opera singer as Schwarzkopf or Maria Callas. European classical music: can it get any whiter? But we all know that Jessye belongs right up there, together with all the other star singers. And can you tell, just by listening, a black opera singer from a white one? No, you can't....
And about D'Angelo and Clapton: everybody knows that D'Angelo outsings Eric. And that's because he is an amazing vocalist, not because he is an amazing bláck vocalist. But that's totally beside the point I wanted to make. I just wanted to say that Eric, not having half the power or souplesse that D'Angelo has, has his own sound and colour that mixes remarkably well with D'Angelo's.
I agree, I think the combination of these two voices make for a very natural and heart warming listen. I personally don't think that if you're not from the, for lack of a more suitable word 'race', which a genre of music originated from then you won't intellectually or emotionally understand it as much as someone who is closley related to said 'race'. I'm Irish and I'd find it obnoxious and nationalistic if said that anyone who doesn't have Irish heritage can't understand Irish music, poetry, dance or any other artform, be that on a macro or micro level. It's universal and obviously so for those of us who don't view the human species as subdivided by race, we can all learn from eachother.
💫
Awesome performance both greats.

Read the title... seemed too good to be true.
You can tell D’Angelo sounds better and people are uncomfortable about that fact by the comments
I love eric clapton but damn D killed this…

Dangelo has nothing on the original singers of this great song.

NEW World ORDER, ,
It would have been better if D'Angelo sung by himself.
D'Angelo is also god.
To be fair, that key was really not for Mr. Clapton's vocal range.
+Tom Zhang No, he is trying but it is not Eric's vocal range!
And D'angelo has WIDE range, honestly.
Eric was not needed here and that’s all due respect.
And you are even less needed writing here, hater
D'Angelo's voice is supreme, i don't think eric Clapton should have agreed to this as he sounds so mediocre compared to D'Angelo.
Sorry but D'Angelo had to take it easy on Eric. And you could tell that it was probably irritating him a little bit. Had he sang alone he would have done so much more with that song.
this wasn’t about what d could do with the song this was about honoring curtis mayfield
Eric Clapton should have stuck to only playing the guitar for this performance, or maybe just singing a little at the beginning. D'angelo makes him look like an ameteur vocally
Itumeleng Montsho everybody sounds amateur compared to a brother lol
@@bakarithalegend6193 Black, white, or Candy Striped; D is just gifted.🎁
Eric should have just played the guitar. Leave all the heavy lifting to d'angelo
