Thank you!!! I'm glad that you resonate well with it ~ Your time is a type of currency ~ You're free to spend it however you choose ~ Sometimes you might be in a mood for a slow, easy-going pace with those audio/video streams ~ Sometimes a nice quiet pace suits you as well ~ Both are helpful!! I'm glad that you've found value in the way that I've presented solutions!
Hope you do well on your exam!! Go get 'em!!

Isn't 53 supposed to be D since alkanes burn with a clean flame and alkenes don't?

choice D says II is legit also, but they're both non-polar so how would conductivity help distinguish between them?

Wouldn't burning alkenes and alkanes help you to tell them apart? Since one is blue and clear and the other has a lot of soot? Or is that not accurate enough due to complete and incomplete burning being a factor.

      sorry couldn't respond sooner~
weird I'm getting a lot of questions about this one
I always thought they were testing regarding bromine solution with this one
one react with it and one doesn't, which makes the bromine solution ideal to tell them apart~
lets see what chatgpt4 via copilot on the bing browser has to say about this:
"Let's explore the differences between alkanes and alkenes to determine which tests can be used for distinguishing them:
      1. **Burning:**
      - Both alkanes and alkenes can burn in the presence of oxygen.
      - **Not a reliable test** for distinguishing between them.
      2. **Conductivity:**
      - Alkanes are nonpolar and do not conduct electricity.
      - Alkenes are also nonpolar, so they do not conduct electricity either.
      - **Not a useful test** for differentiation.
      3. **Adding Bromine Solution:**
      - Alkenes react with bromine (Br₂) to form a reddish-brown color solution. The double bond breaks, and the bromine atoms attach to the carbon atoms.
      - Alkanes do not react with bromine solution.
      - **This test can distinguish between alkanes and alkenes.**
Therefore, the correct answer is **C) 3 only**. Adding bromine solution is a reliable way to differentiate between alkanes and alkenes"

@@csec-maths-chem-paper1s It was actually great to me I give it 9/10 . I would admit it did not have as many repeats as I would have expected but once you understood explanations for answers and didn't just memorize it would have been a breeze. A lot of people were complaining about not seeing all repeats which to me was true in comparison to other papers

      That's a really good idea~ I can see that helping~
As of right now, Carnival weekend 2023, I have about 22 different Chemistry Past Paper 1s up ~ In the last handful of vids, what I'm finding is that about 90% of the questions are repeating exactly or similarly enough so that if you knew all the answers from the past 2 decades worth of papers you could easily cruise through the answers. But what I'm wondering is: what's it take to get to that point you could just breeze through 100s of past paper questions in a short amount of time. A quiz-type thing might really help!
Hopefully students are studying months in advance, just going through 1 or 2 exams a day might be enough to get there in short order. You have lots of subjects to get through, so your time is a great asset you want to manage well!
My suggestion would be to write a question and the answer like a fact, a sentence, a statement. And keep reading those here n there. And you want to sort your facts by topic, so you have related ones near each other. That would make for a really good study guide for yourself! And just by studying past paper questions alone, you could get through the Paper 1 with ease! If you did that for about 20 questions a day for 2 months, you would cover around 1200 questions completely. And since questions repeat, your notebook of question-answers would be thorough. Each page would be very information-dense and answer-rich! If you did more questions a day it would take way less time. But this strategy is only ideal if you start studying about about 3 to 6 months before the exam begins!
Thanks for the comment~ It's good you're thinking about how to best succeed months out in advance! Whichever strategy/strategies you choose for yourself, is/are the best one(s)! Rooting for your success~
