    The white upper and wood lower looks more balanced imo. So excited for your new kitchen! I really hope you can move forward with it 🙏❤

      I agree, came here to say that too - when I bought my house there were only solid wood bottom cabinets in the kitchen, so to add more storage space on a budget, I got some plain ikea cabinets in dark navy to add as uppers - I loved this combo to begin with, but around a year into living in the house I started regretting this decision, as my kitchen would definitely look much lighter if the tops were a light colour instead. Now that the bottom wood ones got quite dirty too, I would be able to just paint them with a darker colour, but with the top ones already being dark I can't do this, as I don't want to make the room even more dark-toned 🫠

      I would agree. The white cabinets at the bottom might get annoying with keeping them clean, especially with dogs (or kids) 🥵 we have a green kitchen, very easy to clean off, it's kind of a laminated texture. you still see lightly, where somebody touched with wet or greasy hands. I imagine the white kitchen would multiply those stains

      I agree, the wood will hide more smudges from day to day use in high traffic spots by you, James, and the puppies so I would go with wood lowers. The white uppers would also make the ceilings appear taller especially if the ceiling and walls are similar white/cream colors.

    Highly recommend swapping sink with the stove top! the constant windo cleaning with the stove in front of it will get tiring real fast and it's much nicer to have sink in front of a window, also way more space for cooking around th stove on the kitchen island :)

      This!!! While James is right. The sink will be a little far from the coffee bar area. Having a window by the sink is so nice. And the stove top on island for socializing while cooking makes more sense.

      The other problem with the sink in the island is that dishes accumulate in the middle of the space (we have this problem and it drives me nuts!). At least with the sink on the side, you do not have to stare at the dishs while you eat in the dining room. Plus I think your plumming is already on that side, so it might be cheaper not to have to relocate it.

    Also don’t forget under cabinet lighting! It’s extremely helpful. And dimmable pendant lights above the island are great for cozy mood lighting at night when you don’t want bright overhead lights

    Personally I suggest putting the pantry next to the fridge and keeping the oven on the door side. If you put the oven next to the fridge or pantry the heat will cause problems for food storage & your fridge will have to work harder to keep things cool. Also if the oven is on the door side, when the heat is too much in the kitchen you can open the back doors for ventilation.
    Also regarding the cabinetry I would say wood above the Hob would be better because in my experience when cooking with oils the cabinets above the Hob tend to get dirty quickly. But the white would be nice as accent cabinets for the pantry and above the oven & fridge.
    As for the ones under the counter I would suggest wood as well with the dogs. My mom had white cabinets floor to ceiling and drove herself crazy trying to keep them looking clean.
    These are just suggestions coming from issues I’ve noticed personally. So please take them with a grain of salt and do what makes you & James the happiest ❤

      As a professional cook of.... many, many years, I fully support this take. Separating the oven and fridge is much better, and having the pantry and fridge near each other not only helps your fridge last longer because of the aforementioned heat problems, but it really helps me personally keep better track of what I have and need, as both of the main food storage areas are right next to each other.

      Another thing to think about putting the pantry in the fridge together- it will be easier when unloading the groceries. Everything is in one place and you don’t have to run around the kitchen to put away things.

    Don't forget to add electricity outlets on the island. They are so handy when cooking with appliances like mixers and rice makers. We also moved into a home with a shallow spice cabinet in the island right across from the stove, and I love being able to see all of our spices without having to dig through the pantry!

    Professional kitchen planner here, if you decide for the fridge next to the oven, make sure it's isolated we'll bc it could be very energy effective otherwise bc the oven gives off a lot of heat that the fridge has to balance out. Everything else is seriously just personal preference 😊 Sending love from Germany 😊

  • @atrinoisa
    @atrinoisa 8 місяців тому +54

    My personal take:
    Sink in front of window and stove top in the island (easier to clean)
    Oven AWAY from fridge. The fridge would have to work harder if you put it next to something hot like that.
    I think the pantry works well on either side but makes sense pairing it with the fridge since that's all your ingredients together.
    White cabinets on TOP to make the room feel bigger and brighter.

  • @kelseytell1259
    @kelseytell1259 8 місяців тому +147

    I would do the fridge and pantry next to each other. All your ingredients in essentially the same spot would be so convenient. Also I like white uppers to give the illusion of height.

  • @userO.0..

    I would do wood on the lower cabinets because dirt will be very visible on white whereas it won‘t be as visible with wood. The upper cabinets don‘t get dirty that easily so white would work really well there

    Hi, an architect here! I highly recommend swapping the sink with the stove unless you can replace the fixed window with operable ones so that the odor won't be around the area too long or even slip to the living room area. Moreover, it'll be very messy around the sink if you don't have a dish cabinet under the counter. You may want to switch the oven with the pantry since the high temperature can ruin your fridge in the long run, or relocate the mini-home cafe (coffee machine) at the back of the dining room (where the egg artwork is)! It'll be very comfortable to reach out for coffee or tea from the living room area, so there won't be too many people circulating around the cooking station. You will also need to consider another storage area for appliances you don't frequently use because some pretty kitchens are usually ruined by messy appliances.
    You can get better lighting by opening up the space to the corridor area and switching the kitchen-dining door with just a simple archway, and your foyer area won't feel too cramped or too small. It will feel more spacious when you want to welcome guests or families since their belongings will be too stuffy around the area. The less you use doors, the more spacious your home will be. Also, I would suggest incorporating a mini bar in front of the kitchen island if you want people to sit there when watching somebody else cook, and you won't be staring at the wall constantly since the kitchen only has two windows for inside-out interaction and lighting sources.
    In my experience, matching wood tones can be very frustrating if you use HPL or vinyl and you want to combine them with wooden furniture. Because no matter how we see it, fake and real wood can be drastically different. So I suggest you combine the overall palette with another material like steel that can add the industrial-wood nuance or green accents to make the room more lively.
    Nice video, anyway!

  • @lkm11b
    @lkm11b 8 місяців тому +28

    Interior designer here! As much as I love the wood lowers and white uppers, fake wood to real wood can be very noticeable. Second, no matter how hard you try, your wood laminate will never match your wood floors. If that is something you are fine with design wise, great! If not, it will bug you because it will be so close that it will look off.
    All together, beautiful design! And excited to see it come to life!

      @sydneykleindoesdesign 8 місяців тому +10

      Interior designer here too and I was thinking the same thing while watching this video. Also, if the kitchen island / work bench is going to be that wide, they should consider adding storage on the side where the chairs are to for less frequently used items.

    Double ovens aren’t really necessary unless you do frequent dinner parties and/or Christmas dinner every year. We rarely used both of ours. Also the pot filler taps aren’t THAT common in America lol

      Pot fillers are becoming more and more popular. I’m a kitchen designer IRL, and it’s noted on probably half of my projects in the last year. I personally don’t see the benefit of them since you still have to take the pot to the sink to dispose of the water when you’re done.

    personally, I have my stove top and sink switched, I find that a sink in the island (as I currently have) accumulates a lot of visual clutter in the centre of the room. plus, having your stove under cabinets and against a window/wall accumulates more grease. as long as you have lots of drawer space, I don't think you'll have a lack of pantry within all of those extra cabinets.

  • @sophiemitchell617
    @sophiemitchell617 8 місяців тому +97

    Super exciting and it's going to look amazing!
    I've always found that it's better not to have the sink on the island because when the inevitable dirty dishes pile up it's really visible being in the middle of the room. Plus having the hob on the island means you can chat and hang out with people sitting on the other side of the island while you cook. You can get pop up extractor fans that come out of the island rather than coming from above, but we've never had an extractor fan and it's never been an issue but probably depends on the sorts of things that you cook!

    As someone who moved into a house that doesn’t have a pantry and not many cabinets…definitely prioritize the pantry space! We had to buy a large standalone cabinet for more storage and also have baskets hanging on the wall for produce. It works but if we ever update the kitchen we are definitely adding a pantry!

    I’d definitely recommend having the microwave above the oven in the built in. I love my oven, microwave setup, everything is at just the right height and you’d gain precious bench space back in your coffee nook.
    If you can find a way to add more pantry space make that a priority as well. Better to have more than not enough. If you wanted you could see about moving the coffee nook and pantry to the other wall where the dog bowls are and move the kitchen entry over.
    You could also try looking up a space planner and see their ideas or even hire them if your budget allows.
    All the best and I’m excited to see how it turns out!

    #2: from experience with my kitchen, definitely do white uppers and timber lowers. My white lower cabinets CONSTANTLY need deep cleaned due to pets, cooking, etc whereas my white uppers just need normal / common cleaning
    #3: Stainless steel is such a pain (in my opinion). Super annoying to keep fingerprints off of. Whenever I polish them, they’re beautiful for like a day and then full of fingerprints

If only more customers were played Sims and were able to imagination of design etc. And about white you are so right. White should be on upper cabinets because its in height of eyes and space fells wider then. We usually do high cabinet (oven, fridge, pantry) all in color od under cabinets. Dont wory about food, you wil have plenty of sapce above and under oven next to pantry. Coffee corner is sooo cute there. I cant wait to realization ❤🎉. Hi Deli. If you are only planning on putting your espresso machine and microwave in the appliance cupboard might I suggest using the “pantry” next to the oven for appliances? With your fluffy puppers, I would not recommend white cabinets on the bottom (even though they look great) cause you’ll need to clean them constantly. With the oven situation, I personally like having a double oven, but the space is definitely much harder to manage. I don’t know if it’s available in Australia, but there are compact(?) double ovens where it’s the same size as a normal oven but has two mediumish ovens instead. It’s great for keeping the space from feeling super cramped. Also, I echo the sentiments of some of the other commenters, the stove in front of the window will be a messy situation, and always go for more pantry space. It disappears fast. I’m so excited for you guys!!!! This will be so fun!!!!

I can only imagine how expensive this will be, but it’s gonna be so worth it in the end. I’d consider putting the sink by the window if you can though. We have the same coffee machine as you and ours is away from the sink (it has to be as there is no space next to the sink). I have to be very careful when carrying the drip tray, that fills with liquid, to the sink. I would suggest having a think about how you could get the coffee machine in a space that is close to the sink for overall ease of use. Regarding the bottom cabinetry - just think about what is easy to clean. Those trendy cabinets with the ridges are harder to clean, especially when pets are involved as well. Good luck with it all and I can't wait to hear more about your kitchen reno!

She used it often when my mom and her two sisters were all still at home, but then for like 1975 until she passed in 2022 she only used it at Thanksgiving and Christmas. My mom now has one oven now and manages just fine! I think one oven is sufficient. It all just comes down to time management.

I guess if it's just you and James, they might not both get used often but if you enjoy hosting or you end up having a family in this house, it's definitely useful. Plus, if you're making a meal with several components, you can put the ovens on low heat and use them to keep food warm whilst you're finishing other elements :)

    I lived somewhere once that had one oven/stovetop unit, but the space for the oven was divided into one shallower oven space with a more regular sized oven space below it. I LOVED having two ovens to be able to cook multiple things at different temperatures, but I especially loved the mini-oven that was built in. I used the smaller one 99% of the time, but used both when I needed to! It was like having a full sized oven and toaster oven built into one. So useful, and would totally recommend.

    Hi. I live in the US and we do have things quite well here which I am very grateful for. I do have two ovens. It comes in handy if you host things that require food. We use it a lot around the holidays. I liked the white on the bottom counters with the wood on top. And I really liked the island with one side all white and the other side white and wood. Your kitchen design is beautiful. I’m sure you’ll be able to get everything you want in your kitchen! I can’t wait to see it when it’s finished.

    My family has had a double oven unit for over 15 years, and we use it most during the holidays for baking and special meals and then occasionally during the year. The oven that we don't use as often is then used to store large roast pan and large pans.

    I’m so excited for more Delidiary content!! 🎉🎉🎉 and I also love the smell of my dogs 🐕 🐾
    I’m team white upper, wood lower
    I love the glass doors and think it would really benefit to have matching ones on either side where you’ve placed them.
    The only thing I would change about orientation is switching the stovetop with the sink, so the sink is by the window and the stovetop is on the island. Fun for entertaining and if you ever have dirty dish clutter it won’t be in the center of your kitchen.

    As an architecture graduate I love this content and I'm so excited for you to have your kitchen renovated, would love to see vlogs of the whole process! I definitely think having the wood cabinets on the bottom and white cabinets on the top is the way to go, like you said it opens up the space alot more and makes the ceiling not feel as low. Plus I imagine lower cabinets are more likely to get dirty than the higher ones so that will also not show it as much as the white. Also having the door into the lounge room will definitely be good for flexibility of the space and heating/cooling separation like you mentioned. All the colours you've picked so far are great, I hope one day to have a similar kitchen cos this is going to turn out gorgeous!

    I have a double oven and I don’t find it useful at all, but I also have a very small family that rarely has large get togethers. My kitchen is also pretty small so I would love to use the space differently and just have one oven, but considering you have the space for a double oven (and whether you cook/bake for large gatherings/lots of items at once) often then I would totally see the use of it!
    I LOVE the clean and modern color palette and how bright it makes the space!! 🩷

    We just got a double oven unit and its been SO nice. If you don't entertain often I'd say skip it and keep the extra pantry space, but if you like having people over its a game changer! Good compromise would be a split oven. Not sure if they make them for built ins but thats what we have instead of two full size ones and its perfect :)

    Lovely kitchen you are planning for.
    Redid my kitchen a few years ago, and in my plans I had a coffee/tea corner. It turned out great, even if there are a few extra steps to get the water. But if you have any kind of milk in your coffee, have the fridge on the right side off the window.
    And for a double ovens, my brother got two, and it’s very useful when he is multitasking in the kitchen. One oven for bread, the other for dinner.
    Have fun getting a new kitchen!

    I love two toned kitchens. Mine was a dark blue in bottom(changed to a sage green) and white on top(I have kids and 2 dogs so white on bottim to me = visibility dirty always). Even if you do white bottoms I think the island would look really good in the wood shade matching the top cabinets.

    I had a white kitchen once, because I thought it looks sooo cool and yes, it does. but it is also soooooo much of cleaning and polishing all the time. now I have a grey kitchen with black and grey marbled countertops and it is just so much more easy to maintain, I would never go back to a white kitchen, where you see every spot and piece of dust / lime from the water etc.

    Have a double oven stacked just as described. I had never had one until my current house so didn't really get the hype, but now that I have experienced it, I am never going back. With the baking and other cooking/hosting you like to do it is a game changer. It is so much less stressful to have independent control of two ovens to give different temperatures and extra room for holidays. Remember, it is so much cheaper to put these in up front than to come back and retrofit.

  • @undetestable1
    @undetestable1 8 місяців тому +1

    Unless you cook meals for a large family or your house is where holidays meals are hosted, then 2 ovens seem excessive. I've seen alot of microwaves stacked on top of the oven, that gives a similar look but is a bit more practical.
    Also having a window behind the stove top means alot of extra cleaning.

    Ooooh so exciting. Definitely white uppers, wood lowers. Or all wood if it's different enough from the flooring. Stainless appliances are not more difficult to clean, it just requires a special cleaner to avoid leaving streaks. However much pantry space you think you need--you need more. I have ended up storing pantry stuff in my dining room built-ins because there is not a lot of space in the kitchen. I also have kitchen stuff in the basement because my kitchen is so tiny! I'm envious! I want to do my kitchen some day too!

    I have a double oven, but honestly it’s only worth it bc I have a huge family who I cook for all the time 😊 if it was just me and my partner, I’d stick to a single. But it all depends on your lifestyle!
    In terms of what to put on the wall, you can pop up a small whiteboard, or dry erase board where you can write down groceries you’ve run out of, and that makes it easier to keep track of

    Love your ideas deli!! I would say the upper top cabinets white, and the side and bottom cabinets being wood looks better imo!! I also HIGHLY recommend moving your pantry away from the oven like you suggested! I had a small pantry above the built-in oven in an old apartment of mine and if the oven got a little too warm it would melt items in the pantry. Nothing that was dangerous - but melted chocolate and gummies are not ideal! Love you're design, hope it goes smooth for you and can't wait to see updates! Also, glad your back friend!!!

    20:23 Servings the oven might be what the kitchen company had in mind when placing the oven next to the refrigerator.
    Alternatively placing the those two appliances on the right side might increase accessibility even more for servicing.
    However, at least in the US, many people have refrigerators with built in chilled water taps so depending on how plumbing currently is configured it might be advantageous have them remain on the left hand side.

    If I was redoing my kitchen now, you best believe I would be adding a pot filler. We are in New England area US and cook a lot of lobster and clam chowder and we use big pots so often. Also, husband home brews beer so a pot filler is super handy vs carrying a giant pot full of water.
    However, our MUST have that we installed was a glass rinser for our sink. We use it multiple times a day and it was so handy with baby bottles. ❤

    My parents redid their kitchen a few years back in slate grey and teal. All the main cabinets are grey and the islands is teal, which actually looks really nice so you could do white cabinets and keep the island in wood if you wanted to. Also, double ovens are great, they have one average size one and one smaller one which is quicker to heat up and it's great if you have people over with different dietary needs as well.

    So excited for you guys to be getting a new kitchen. As someone who went through a full kitchen reno growing up, it was definitely chaotic but so worth it! We also had our oven in built into the cabinets right beside the fridge so I don't think that is weird at all.
    I have wooden lower cabinets and white upper cabinets, and I think thats better because the white cabinets can get dirty and it will be very visible.
    Also last thing, I dont think it's weird that you like the smell of your dogs. I always pick up my cat and snuggle and sniff her multiple times a day. Her scent is rather comforting and soothing.
