  • Network latency impacts VoIP, gaming, and many critical applications. Understanding how to test latency is critical for the admin and IT pro. We will demonstrate the components of Sysinternals' Psping.exe needed to accurately test and evaluate network latency. We will demonstrate how to configure the Psping server process on a remote host and how to properly set up the client to test your network for latency. We will cover parameters for latency testing and demonstrate how to understand the results. Capturing data and evaluating your network latency data is critical to the utility. We will look at histograms and how data is captured, create “csv” files and plot histograms using Excel.

The program Ping Plotter shows not only latency but switching of the internet routers Port 5000 is Synology for internal LAN networks

Sounds like Marks version of iPerf in that it needs the other side to have a server installed to work. Is there a tool that can "ping" a specific port without having the target modified? I need to test industrial networks for port 44818 frequently to see if firewalls have been set up properly to allow that traffic.

You are correct it is very much like iPerf, you can use the Psping TCP testing mode which will allow use of ports. Psping has four test modes covered in this video series, check out ua-cam.com/video/KG1NUU829eQ/v-deo.html

Yes, but there seems to be little interest in WiFi and I really do not understand, it is such a great subject.

Hello , I want to ask something . I have a single PC and I want to test the latency difference before & after I apply some registry modifications that they have theoretically impact in performance ( Ping ). Can I make my measurements with Psping or would you recommend a different program ?

Psping requires a server process to get accurate measurements, but let me think about it and get back to you.
