- Rescue 50 responding to assist Lancaster City Fire on a working dwelling. Crews provided RIT services and cleared the scene within the hour. Willow Street Fire Company. Taken 1/19/19

I love how the drivers all stopped and pulled to the side and got out of the way. Like REALLY gave the FD a WIDE berth. It's awesome to see people actually giving way to emergency services instead of not caring at all.
They pulled so far over. The driver of rescue 50 must have been dazzled by actual care from car drivers on the road.
I like watching these video because I love people have to move to the side in there car!

@@AVlSH Downright reckless and at speed too; I am not impressed. We drive to get there otherwise we are of no use. All it takes is one vehicle to turn left off a driveway! If there were an accident the drivers feet wouldn't touch the ground nor would the OIC"s for permitting it.

That engineer was really skilled! That heavy of a truck moving that fast, and going down a wrong way takes some courage.

I sure miss those days when I was a volunteer fireman and I don't really care about the new siren on the new firetrucks make. I love the way older firetrucks made. I was a volunteer fireman for 17 years from 1984 2001

When I was a Volly the best times where in the rig speeding to a fire or accident your minds racing in a hundred directions but the adrenaline is pumping so high that it keeps you prepared. I worked for a slow house not much fire duty mostly accidents but the 1 fire I was at was my last a brush fire that almost killed me I quit afterwards. This is non a non for the weak

Also when I was in middle school I was afraid to push the siren as high as it could go cause I was afraid it would shatter the school window cause of the pitch

The Roto-ray looks like a Fidget Spinner with lights on spinning so fast, but nope. It's a light design to get people's attention to pull over.

The “Screaming Q” needs to be re-installed in all emergency vehicles, vehicles today are way more soundproof than 20 years ago, I’m 52, I could hear local, next jurisdiction over cop, and fire or ambulance come over from 2 miles away. This crap they use now a day is a freaking joke…. They do there study in a controlled environment, not real life…. And the horn…. I’m a truck driver……. Want to get attention, put in a close to train Horn, their gonna hear you! My case and point made. Love your you tube videos. I always wanted to be a VFD member, just gone for weeks at a time..keep safe

So if you are not allowed to go to calls in the city what calls can you go on? What is considered a city in your area?
Lancaster County is broke up into townships and boros. The only city is Lancaster city witch the city is staffed with paid firefighters along with Manheim township they are a combination of paid and volunteer. Lancaster city brings mutual aid volunteer companies in on anything more then a first alarm assignment.
Lancaster city is a IAFF professional 319 local. Anything higher then a first alarm assignment brings in the platoon off duty rigs for the city along with outside city volunteer companies hence company 50 a all volunteer department is on box alarms for the city on one side of the city so when it's goes to 2nd alarm the off duty city crew gets called along with surrounding outside city units.

They have these all over northern Illinois except in the city of Chicago. They only work if the emergency vehicle has a specific strobe light emitter installed.

Those would be called MARS lights.
The spinning thing is a roto-ray. It's a light designed to get your attention. Then on each side of the cab there are Mars lights that flash in a figure eight pattern.

pretty sure they're emergency services are permitted to if it saves time to the call location and/or saves time in overtaking other cars.
Melvin Williamson Emergency Vehicles are permitted to disregard traffic signals/direction of travel/speed limits while utilizing due regard. Think about if your house was on fire or you/your family was dying. Would you want the responders to take their time getting there waiting at every red light or taking the long way around due to a one way?

Sometimes it has to be done due to blocked roads but NEVER at that speed for that distance just to save a little time. You should always 'drive to arrive.'. You can pile the 'hate' on all you like but public safety comes first.

Definately need some training on the use of the Q. The Q is designed to wind up then wind down to cover an array of sound levels for more attention. Just standing on the pedal is pointless and makes it worthless.

The Federal Signal Q, aka "Screaming Q", is an electropneumatic siren, used on firetrucks. Basically the loud siren.

You are allowed to do it with due caution if it is necessary. There was no due caution and it wasn't necessary. Necessary is when your route is blocked, not for a short cut!
