I love the history behind these Mausers, hearing about everyone backstabbing each other is kind of hilarious. Meanwhile these are some slick little carbines.
Love when the history has some "drama" in it ! Be it due to someone wanting their "palm greased", or a bureaucrat covering their butt, after the fact. Makes primary sources even suspect.
Little, lol.. sigh.
Chilean here, it was mostly the SIG rifle instead of the fal that was adopted post war, but the latter did see limited service in very small quantities
Allende sent a lot of the Chilean FALs to the Sandinistas in Nicaragua
And we all know how that ended up
ON THIS WEEKS EPISODE OF…
EVERBODY WANTS A MAUSER!
100 years from now on space UA-cam, C&Rsenal's spiritual successors will have a long list of episodes about how everyone adopted ARs and AKs.
@@mattwhite7421Or some variation of the 180, lol
My father was a Chilean police officer in Carabineros de Chile, he trained in 1960 with a Mauser carbine. Actually I have his carbine (he died 13 years ago), he managed to get his hands on one. But I still have some questions, the carbine lacks some markings, appears to be made by Steyr, and it was not refurbished for 7.62 Nato, most likely because it was destined to police and army training (like the case of my dad). I wish you could research for odd variants, I still have trouble identifying my dad's rifle. Great series, thanks for sharing!
I have a 1935 Chilean Mauser made for the Carabineros. It’s a handy rifle in 7mm Mauser.
I like that i literally went "Holy cow!" To mae shooting the first carbine and Othias almost immediately explains it like 5 minutes later.
I loved the Chilean Mauser I had. It was in excellent original condition, the bore was mint; and the Chilean Crest made icing on the cake!
I have to say you do a great job with the ad keeping it interesting so much that I never skip it and I consider the historically based ones an addition to the show
Being in Germany, I have no functioning guns. I have long used Ballistol as a lubricant and "preservative" for many tasks around the house, cars, outdoor model trains etc...
I bought a can of Ballistol shortly after you first announced their sponsorship.
I don't much care for the smell, but Ballistol is useful stuff. I used it to revive a couple of reloading presses that had been 'lubricated' with WD40. long since seized up on the stuff in fact. The Ballistol helped clean out the junk. Gunked up water displacer, powder fouling, and dust alike.
It's largely displaced my use of rem-oil in protecting my collectibles. Ballistol in a needle applicator bottle is so much easier to work with.
Thanks for making a show I deeply enjoy! Especially the episodes covering odd or obscure pieces.
Love getting some insight into South American military history. There are so many fascinating arms, conflicts, and tensions there that we rarely hear about here in the US. And they’ve gifted us so much cool, affordable surplus to boot
Good plugging on how much better Ballistol is than WD-40 for use on firearms. I have used it to free up firearms that CLP has turned to a gummy sticky mess being in long-term storage. I had some in storage for a decades, was frozen up. The CLP even removed the bluing that led to surface rusting. I have not had that problem with Ballistol.
Yall made me a lifelong balistol fan. Ty! 🎉
Can’t believe it’s 2 weeks already, another very interesting show. Keep up the great work
Ah, South American Mausers: Come for the rifle, stay for the short-sighted political shenanigans!
Very nice carbines indeed. Thanks for posting Othias and Mae! And Ballistol helped!
So much too know and you are here to tell us. Thank you.
Saludos desde Chile
Muy buen programa
Muy educativo dela historia del mauser chileno m98
Such cool Mausers. I love Ballistol also. Since they support you, I support them. I have bought several bottles, even their commemorative flask and a tshirt! This stud is good for just about anything.
I consider the 7x57 Mauser to be the original SCHV cartridge. Been using Ballistol since my first black powder revolver in 1966. Thank you Mathias for telling the correct pronunciation of "Lowe". Mae's grin says it all!
I was able to clean up and restore an old drill press with the help of Ballistol. I'm finding new uses all the time.
Mauser episodes are always good.
Hi, you're Othias😊
One of the most famous Mauser models.
You really can't exhaust the Mauser's design history and all the subtle but significant variations. The post WW II variations/modifications, when they were good and obsolete, could fill a few episodes on their own.
Either of those carbines would be slick for walking in the deep woods during a deer hunt
After four long days and a short but shitty 5th that video is badly needed. That video and more beer. Because CRsenal and beer are my two chief ways to unwind.
I lIke the extended history beyond just this model.
Ballistol is great. Many uses, I like it for my guns.
You give the overall length of a rifle but not the barrel length. Why? Especially when you mention the first carbines had to be made a little longer to properly handle the new Spitzer bullets!
What his majesty, emperor Wilhelm II, ordered is a timeless classic - I mean the Ballistol. Works nice on knifes, work boots... and comes in handy for all sorts of squeaking links and screws :)
Thank you
His eyes uncovered!
Shaka, when the walls fell...😉
As a fan of the Mauser rifle, this is an great video!
It would be very useful if barrel lengths were given alongside overall lengths just to get a feeling of what ballistic performance we're talking about here.
One of the first surplus rifles I bought many years ago.
Boonen…what a name.
I just picked up an 1909 argentine Mauser(sportizied and 30.06) Thank you C and R I watched your episode...and then oh cool two weeks later one popped up..(shut up and take my money)
1911 Argentine also .30-06 sportizied (?). Heard US after WWI passed out tons of .30-06 so Argentina rechambered their rifles. Mine had an unworking safety and next to no wear on rifling. Simple grind a small radius on safety lever.
Is it just me or do these guys dress more and more alike as the years go by?
Cape Breton Dinner Jacket
Oh boy are we gonna get a fal series one day? Perhaps in 2050?
Such a beautiful rifle, I love the sights.
I wonder if they have a mannlicher style stock for this length of rifle.
☕🐝🇺🇸
Bubba, nnnooooo
I thought you guys released episodes every other Thursday
Every other tuesday
Always Tuesdays
I’d buy more ballistol but Ive got one problem with it. I cant find it anywhere! The one store that had it I was buying from does not carry it anymore, and everytime I make an online order I forget to add the ballistol to my cart. I’m sure I’ll remember when I run out in two years.
Nice!!
I have a sporterized one. Still not sure what Style it is whether it is a carbine, rifle or long carbine. Mines still in 7mm
Bought three cans last week.
somos el mejor pais de chile hermano
Wea
this is just darling
On shorter small arms the British army often had a longer Bayonet/"Sword". Did the Chileans do anything similar for the carbines or did they stick with a standard-sized rifle bayonet?
Sweet gat.
For the algorithm. 🙂👍
I was wondering what the go with the sniff at 32:12 was about😂😂😂
The 1891 Argentine carbine had the nose cap with sight ears
A few of the 1895/12/36 ended up in Europe wonder how that came
I have an M1894 Brazilian Mauser. It looks like it spent 10 years at the bottom of the Amazon River. 😢
My Chilean Mauser got attacked by a Rogue Bubba... Dammit. Still shoots straight though.
the explanation for my "long carbine" that is 100% matching, including the 1895 dated stock, would be interesting to hear. somehow I'm not convinced it went through an arsenal rehab.
The explanation is in the video, whether you're convinced or not. Your long carbine was not born a long carbine.
@@TenaciousTrilobite it has a "long carbine" stock. the stock has the original style 1895 cartouche and the serial number. neither of which is typical of the replacement stock described in the video.
@@BaikalTii I don’t recall him discussing long carbine serials or stock stamps in the video. What you’re describing is typical of other examples out there.
@@TenaciousTrilobite the specific claim in the video is that the stocks were supplied in the 1910 time frame. I've seen replacement stocks on other Chilean Mausers; they are not marked with either serial number or acceptance cartouche. especially an 1895 cartouche.
@@BaikalTii I’ve seen several examples of long carbines that are completely matching and have earlier stock dates. I have not seen one with a 1910 cartouche.
👍👍👍
22:54 Should just say 'slash' like a normal person.
The Chilean military academy still uses the 1895 Mauser.
Othias, your email address gives an error.
I tried to send one a moment ago .
👍👍👍👍👍👍
It's almost like wd-40 was never intended to be used as a lubricant
I like ballistol but it makes me cough if I leave it open...
WD40 i snot and never was a lubricant. It has a different purpose.
Long carbine is like jumbo shrimp.
!!!
The most important question is whether you think that beans belong in your Chilean.
On rifles showing up it other countries
Government gave/sold aid to other countries/groups
Surplus rifles sold on open market/ unscrupulous dealers
I been itching to buy couple of bolt action rifles, just not sure what.Being from Canada and a paranoid evil liberal government, but do know ww2 and order. A carbine type rifles look awesome, i hage two Lee enfield's and few others like a Winchester model 54.
Ballistol gun oil…. Bought 2 Gallons in the last five years !!!
WD 40 is a dust magnet it attracts dust
No wd40 in my place...L.P.S 3
I bought ballistol, the smell makes me gag , I think it stinks like dried vomit , having said that it works great on black pooder as moose milk (50 water to 50 ballistol)the areosol gun oil is excellent, not to thick ,not to runny ,stays on working parts etc😊
