I shouldn't have to say this... Yes, Black people ride Harley-Davidson Motorcycles!

  • I was told that Black people don't ride Harley-Davidson's! I've heard this way too many times, and I am always shocked when I hear that statement.
My personal experience with Harley-Davidson and my family dates back to the 1940s. My family's story about owning Harley-Davidson motorcycles isn't an anomaly but is a common story that I've heard from other black people. In today's video, we celebrate some of the pioneers who contributed to the motorcycle community and paved the way for riders of all ethnicities.

We appreciate your comments and encourage you to share your opinion. We take great pride in being a family-friendly UA-cam channel. All cursing, profanity, vulgar language, and abbreviations of such will be deleted. Thank you for your cooperation.

I will admit I recently got into riding and never really thought of it. Living in the corn fields of the Midwest it is a little more uncommon. I was pleasantly surprised, thanks to channels like yours and others, to see how big Harleys are in the black community. That’s awesome! UA-cam is truly showing that we are not as divided as the news would have us believe. From bikes to music we are all one, just trying to make a living, love our families and have some fun along way. Thank you for your contribution in bridging the gap. God bless you and yours sir.

Thanks for sharing. I really liked the family sitting under the tree telling stories and laughing. Reminded me of my grandparents house, that’s where we told stories and made homemade ice cream. Of course, all us younger folks had to turn the handle on the ice cream maker.

This is really weird for me to hear. I'm 74, have been riding motorcycles since I was 15 and have NEVER heard anyone saying anything about blacks not riding motorcycles!!! When I was 19 I started to occasionally ride with a group of about 10 (on a weekend day) to get a burger at different places maybe an hour or two away. Almost always there were a couple of guys who were black and nobody cared. You are the 2nd youtuber this last few weeks who have brought up this subject and it really grates me terribly. Maybe this happens to you and I'm sorry to hear this. I hope it is just ignorance on their part.

Thats why I made the video to educate those who don't know. Take a look at the comments, some people have heard it said before and some have not, but we can all agree, it's out of ignorance to think that black people don't ride Harleys. Thanks for watching.

It's weird for a lot of us to hear. I'm curious which demographic of the population told him that. If I was a gambling man I'd put most of my money on black.

Haven’t been able to afford on yet, but have always been welcomed at every dealership I’ve visited. Being from the region of the country I was born in I thought there was something wrong with my desire to ride. Until I saw the first “black” man riding in our area. Wasn’t a Harley, but he was riding! I may never be able to afford a Harley, but I’ll keep riding what I can as long as I can.
Seeing you and all the others is incredibly heartwarming and to see the family tradition leaves me without words.

Hey, that's some fantastic history and what inspiration. Although, for the longest time Harley-Davidson was, for the most part, the only motorcycle available, aside from Indian, in the U.S. prior to imports. It is also claimed that Harley was once billed as the "White man's motorcycle," while most American riders started to gravitate more to imports like Honda and Suzuki, and later on Kawasaki and Yamaha. I think most would agree that Harley has only recently gained appreciable inroads into the African American motorcycle market.

Riding my Harley Davidson is my way to escape todays politics and just in general the crazy stuff that goes on today. I am so happy to see this video because it just shows how the HD community is diverse in race, thought, and culture. It shows how deep HD roots are and the positive impact the black community has had on HD... Our HD community embraces what makes this nation the greatest. Im a Mexican American, a Tejano, and I ride HD. Ride on brothers and sisters. God bless the USA, God bless Texas, and God bless HD.

Thank you for providing us with this very informative and insightful glimpse into Black history as it pertains to Harley Davidson Motorcycles. I had no idea just how much Black Americans contributed to the design and development of Harley’s, but were not credited for their contributions! The segment featuring your family reminiscing about their experiences on a Harley was awe inspiring! Personally, as a 64 year young man, I am riding a Honda Rebel 1100 DCT due to a surgery that prevents me from using a gear lever. If Harley were to make a DCT, I would be on it in a New York minute!!! Especially for those like me who don’t consider themselves “disabled” but “differently abled” and still want to ride. Your video content has always been very informative, educational, entertaining and inspiring for me and I’m proud to be a subscriber. Stay safe. 🙏🏾👍🏾

Hey Tall, Coming from the NYC area originally, not only were there many Black riders from the 1970's when I was growing up there but also a lot of Black motorcycle clubs in that area.... I remember they rode all sorts of Harleys from stock ( i worked as a mechanic called Tech now lol.. for 2 Harley Dealerships ) to full out custom what you would call baggers now and choppers, Do not know where the ignorance of what was said came from but the History is rich and I always admired the riders I met from that era...... God bless...

That shot at 8:01 is beautiful; for so many reasons
Family history being told. Generations of family being together, reminiscing, and sharing that universal love of motorcycles.
It's also a great insight for us to see where the spark was lit for you.
My passion and love of motorcycles started with my Grandma. 5'2, and tearing up the country on a Honda Goldwing. I started in a sidecar at age 6, moved to the back by 9. All types of folk ride. It's not exclusive to one culture or demographic. We all ride to feel a sense of freedom. A sense of comradery. An escape from the norm.
Love all that you do for the MC community Tall. I think H-D needs to have you narrate a documentary for them. At the very least, some key booths at the museum.
    Be well, my friend.

It's ridiculous but it happens. Recently I stopped to get something from a store and a homeless man stopped me and asked for money. I stopped and offered what I thought was better, a job opportunity. When I came out of the store, he made the statement, "there must be a lot of white people that work at your job." He say my Harley plate on my truck. I did ask why does that matter. He was black. On the other hand, I have gone to a local Hog chapter ride and patches were given out for the event. When the lady came to me, she skipped me and went to the next person. The owner saw what happened and she was fired. I have been riding with the owner on rides since 2008. Thanks Tall. I went to a popular museum in your area about a year ago and expected to see Betsy's adventures there but nothing. I shared her story with a great friend also from your area and he no idea. Thanks for educating many.

I have to hear this nonsense in my own house. In NYC, most black people ride sport bikes. But most blacks drive foreign cars here, too. I used to be into sport bikes, too, but my uncle got me open on Harleys in the late 80s. So in NYC, very few blacks ride Harley-Davidsons. Even the cruiser bike crowd is mostly Suzuki Boulevards. But down south? Bro, y'all get it popping on the potato makers.

I’m from North Carolina and always knew Black guys& gals ride Harley’s ! When I was in high school in the late 1970’s a black guy in my class would ride his fathers 1977 AMF Superglide to school! I was so jealous because I loved Harleys and all motorcycles lol! I finally got one at age 21 and been riding ever since I’ve got a 2021 Streetglide and I welcome all brothers&sisters who ride HD or anything else!

I bought my 1st Harley,a 71 super glide in 1972 from a local Harley dealership in Bridgeport,Ct. What was amazing to see were the Black riders who would deck their bikes out with all kinds of lights all over. You couldn’t miss them and they looked cool.

no, you shouldn't have to say this! I grew up in Wash. D.C. and that's ALL black folks rode was Harleys. That was in the 60's !! many of the black clubs held hillclimbs, tt scrambles, and motorcycle events. My friend and I were the only two white kids there, but we went for the joy of riding a motorcycle and the fellowship of others who loved motorcycles.

I lived in a black neighborhood since my teenage years out in Chicago. Brothers were always on bikes. Nothing new to me. But I ended up moving and people have actually said they've never seen AA on motorcycles and it kind of shocked me

Loved this. What I've noticed is we hear about the same 3 or 4 well known black men and women who made history in motorcycles. Bessie, sugarbear etc. Then nothing. Who are the black riders, and builders from the 1980's? , 90's? 00's? Where are we on social media?
