    Mission accomplished, thank you Joe! Having this vid and being able to do it along with you gave me the confidence to get deeper into the engine than I have gone before.
    The hardest part I found was getting the followers in and out, luckily my adjusters came out by hand with just a bit of twisting and lifting. What I found may be helpful for others - you really do have to feel the spring compress when you lift with the tool. Sometimes everything can look right, the cam lobes are perfectly aligned and the tool is seated fine, but for some reason the spring doesn't compress as much as required. In that case, adjust how the tool sits - maybe it has a slight slant on it, maybe you need to back it out of the gap a few mm. A small adjustment can lead to a big increase in how much compression you can achieve on the spring, and how easily the lifter comes out. Secondly, I found the best way to remove the lifter was to push it backwards, so the dimpled part came off the lifter head, then work it out from under the cam, while keep the spring compressed the whole time. Finally, my car is a TT and there was a small pipe going to the rear turbo which was perfectly placed to block the lifting tool - you couldn't get it into the slot if you tried coming over the pipe, and if you went under the pipe you then couldn't lift with the tool. I considered removing the pipe, but as I didn't have a 12mm crow's foot I couldn't get at it, so I found a better solution and just cut the handle off the lifting tool with an angle grinder. Not very elegant, and not as comfortable to use with a shorter handle, but it meant that it fit and I got the job done. That may be useful info for other TT owners, it had me scratching my noggin for a little while.

    Hmmm and that might be my problem. Previous owner replaced all the tappets but probably didn't de-compress them! I am sure he watched wheeler dealer as the guide! Thanks Joe now I further diagnose!!

    I have the same car 1993 year. I'm dealing with misfire problems in USA. I went to the dealership, they were very unprofessional. They don't have the tools to perform a 27 point diagnosis, which is quite helpful. At the end, they ripped me off us $160 for doing nothing, kept me waiting for 2 days; fabricating all sorts of stories. The fact that I'm a woman, it's frustrating dealing with mechanics or any manly dominated field. You're videos are quite helpful. God bless you. 🙏☮

    Hey Joe great video and only one thing I'd mention is that those tools for compressing the spring to remove the lifter have a tendency to scrape the aluminum head if it slips at all when trying to fiddle them out.. potential for metal shavings in the motor.
    Glad you included the point about them fully being compressable before installation I've seen a lot of mixed info about that one

      Thanks for mentioning the filings. I forgot that one and it is an important note. I don't work from a script so I often forget these things and rely on others to pick up the errors. I'm only human.

    i bought a red dodge stealth for 600. the owner thought the engine was blown, I've yet to find out but i suspect its the hydraulic lifters!

    Are the cam followers valve specific? I have noticed they have different markings. Some with the mark 15, some 13,etc.. I am in the process of a head job due to timing belt break and I have ended up with terrible compression.

    Excellent quality videos mate! Really informative. Question (not relevant to this particular video topic). Have you ever had one where it will occasionally misfire when attempting to start (usually in the summer). Mine will turn over and then misfire once, then eventually start up (after a while of cranking) and run on 3/4 cylinders, after a while it will clear up and run absolutely fine. It's odd as mostly it starts no problem (mainly in cold climates I have noticed). I've spent a lot of money and time trying to fix it but am at a loss as I cannot find anyone else with the same issue. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Cheers

      my final resort will be to look at injectors, but that can be a very expensive job, and may not necessarily fix it, so wandered if this was something anybody else had an issue with.

    Hi thanks for the video!
    I have the same issue, as far as I hear, it is coming from the front cylinder head.
    There was nothing problem with it, it became after 6 months standing without engine running.
    Before this I changed the olil (might be too thick) , but can't be that bad, because some of the GTO owners recommended.
    I took my car to a Japanese car specialist and they changed the front 12 lash adjusters to 3 mm Evo ones but the noise is still there.
    They said, maybe the oil isn't right or my oil pump isn't working properly.
    What do you think?
    What's the name of that cleaning fluid what I can use for this purpose?

      The cleaning fluid that I use is made by wynns but there are other products that do the same job. You should use the oil recommended by mitsubishi who have a little bit of knowledge about these cars. Don't go by what a couple of people on a forum say unless they can cover the cost of any damage or show evidence that the advice is sound. You should always change the lifters as a set because the oil pressure will not equalise evenly if you only change some.

    Hi!
    I have a quick question, I just installed these lash adjusters on my engine as I'm rebuilding it, and in the original manual it said to submerge them in diesel oil and take all the air out of them before installing.
    Was it wrong to do so?, as you installed them "empty"?
    Do I have to take them out again and empty them?

      If you use genuine mitsubishi lifters and that is what the factory manual tells you to do, you should do it. After market lifters tend to have a little more travel and if pre loaded, the value will be too open and hit the piston.

      First of all, don't buy the car unless you get it dirt cheap. If you search hard enough, you will find a running one for a fair price, that may be cheaper in the long run. To answer your question you would start by checking the and coils. If those don't fix it, could likely be ecu.

    I got new lifters as I am rebuilding my heads got 12 in so far but when decompressed number 13 felt like the spring inside was softer than the previous 12 I am gonna order a new one regardless not taking the chance . Have you ever ran into this if so thoughts? USA Ky

      I have had broken springs. This may give the feeling of soft spring.

    Maybe you should have shown how to identify which ones are noisy then show how to take them out, clean them as per the service manual, then put them back in? New ones are a waste of money.

    Takeoff the throttlebody, and you can takeou the intake manifold instead of doing what you did (waste time all love❤) and it saves you so much headache. No offense I don’t know why you didn’t do this.😂
