Both table tennis and badminton have similar "near net" battles like dinking. I'm much more familiar with table tennis. There you can have chess matches with "push" shots, each player trying to play a low unattackable ball, until someone becomes aggressive, or someone makes a mistake.
I put very little at the bottom of the face, just to balance it out to my liking. Not necessarily to add weight as I like to have my paddle light enough for my quick hands
