  • In December 2017, Mike Hunsucker and Shawn Luchtel first put eyes on Hook, a Missouri buck that would keep them busy for the next two years. Watch the story unfold-this isn’t your average deer, and this isn’t your typical story.

    Great story guys. That’s bowhunting. Mistakes happen even to the best of us. At the end of the day they make us better.

    As bow hunters, if it hasn't happened to you, it will, sooner or later. Great story guys. Thanks

    Beautiful deer! Looks like you had a nice shooting lane on the left side of your tree. You probably already figured out stopping him on that side would have presented a good quartering away or possible broadside shot when he stopped and turned to look back at the bleat. Lots of time and dedication on pursuing this trophy whitetail!

    Great story, great buck. Thanks for showing it as it happened. Not all great bucks end up the way we planned...thanks for showing that.

    Great story and well shot! Continue with high end content like this and this channel will go far. I can even visualize a production TV show. Well done!

    Be happy that you missed the first shot or it would have been a gutshot. A poor shot choice on the 2 event. You aren't afraid to show your mistakes. That makes you more relatable to the average Joe. Thanks

    Always did like these guy's videos. Way back when they first came out seemed their videography was ahead of its time. Whatever happened to the Jeff Simpson guy?

    Whiffed the shot? Didn't look you had one. Alert facing you awkwardly.

    This is one of those stories that breaks me to the core of my soul. I really do feel awful for ya'll. That's a really bitter sweet ending. The hunting of that deer was something that will stay with you for your life. Unfortunately so will the end results.

    Are those Garmin Xero's junk then? Please confirm. Sure seems that way.

    . . .and that, Boys and girls is why you don't take a 56 yard shot at an alerted buck. Not an ethical shot. We owe more respect than that to the animals we hunt.

    At 3:33 What did you guys plant in that Field? I’m looking to plan a food pot next year something that attracts deer and turkeys. BTW awesome video!

    Hard quartering too low shot on an alert buck......adrenaline will make us do some questionable shit. We've all been there.

    Bucks just don't show themselves like that in Minnesota.
    If we see a buck twice in the same season it's incredibly rare...
    Must be nice.

    Practice practice practice should be second nature when it comes time to shoot the last few deer I shot I don’t even really remember aiming I just remember looking at where I wanted the arrow to go...the first time you stopped the deer in the cornfield was your best chance even though it was a frontal shot after that to much thinking took place and you blew a chip shot

    Buck I hunted all last year as my first year of deer hunting and scouted him all this summer in urban hunting hasn’t showed up in 2 months and I’ve found many dead deer so think he’s dead

  • @jeremyprimus6001

    Should have named him freshman frat boy, because that buck took a bunch of irresponsible shots

  • @HillTrekkerSarge
    @HillTrekkerSarge 3 роки тому +1

    Blessing in disguise you missed that buck the first time, as it would have been a gut shot for sure and you in all likelihood would have never found him. Even the second shot looked it would have been dodgy if it had hit.
    As it is, that poor buck was probably gutshot by somebody else during the gun season.
    Watching the current crop of bowhunting videos on youtube these days, I see a lot of poor shot placement and lost animals. Always looks like hunters not knowing their limitations and skill level with a bow and just plain choke factor.
    Anyway, at least your weren't hunting off a feeder or on high fence property. Ugh, that shit so lame.

  • @bowsonlyhuntingcompany2020

    The second miss was simply poor shot selection. Shouldn't be taking a quartering to shot like that.

  • @dryflyonly1

    Guys, I am so fed up with guys taking high risk shots at Record book deer, just to have a chance to harvest them and get bragging rights! You give bowhunters a bad name; that is NOT ethical behavior. I have passed on 3 of 4 shots on deer, elk and antelope over many years because I did not have the reasonable shot. These videos really hurt our future to hunt.

    • @HillTrekkerSarge
      @HillTrekkerSarge 3 роки тому

      and there's a lot of videos like this out there, gut shot and lost animals...these dudes shoot full body deer targets at crazy distances and think because they can hit it they will be able to effectively hit a wild deer. A wild deer that's moving. That ducks the string. That's around brush, twigs and branches etc.
