  • Kingfisher Woodside Marksman Raindrip Automatic Watering Timer - Troubleshooting and Repair.
These handy timers are excellent at providing consistent irrigation for your plants and flowers. Over time they can clog up and if left in the rain without the cover on they will eventually stop working - this video shows you how to inspect and repair the motor within the unit.

I have a problem with mine that whilst the valve is turning between the on and off positions just fine, in the off position it's still letting water through, at a much lower flow rate, but water is still getting through. It's controlling water from a water butt, so it's draining the water butt in a few days. Previously it turned off completely. Any ideas what is wrong?

If water is passing the valve then the ball/sleeve clearance is excessive. If your unit has rubber around the valve you might be able to replace this. If not then it could be a misalignment issue. Check that the screw on top of the ball is secured tight. Failing this the clearance has probably grown over time with excessive sliding between these components. There is no easy way to repair this. It would involve adding material to either the ball or the sleeve. It will be very difficult to achieve a tight fit.

The light does not go on when batteries are installed and I turn the dial. Looked at your video but it doesn’t make any difference. Any tips ?

Unfortunately this might be a fault with the circuit board. If the unit has had excessive water damage then various items on the circuit board might be damaged which will need checking individually with a voltmeter.

    How to remove the valve?

Remove the screw above the valve holding the gear in place on top of the valve, this should enable withdrawal of the ball valve itself
