- Utah Army National Guard members from the 641st Aviation Battalion provided a C-23 Sherpa aircraft for static line jumps and a High Altitude Low Opening (HALO) jump at Provo Airport, UT. Several groups of jumpers participated, including members of the 197th Special Troops Company and 19th Special Forces Company of Ogden, UT. This is very similar to the C-7 Caribou I jumped from back in 1972 when I was in the 82 Airborne. The engines sounded very different on the aircraft we jumped from and we had about 15 paratroopers in the aircraft.
The HALO portion of this video was towards the end of the video and only for like 10 seconds
Many years ago we had cardboard shark dorsal fins the cherries had to wear on their helmets. You also got to wear the shark fins if you had a collision in the air or ran with the wind before landing. Sky sharks were dangerous jumpers...
Jumped out of these a couple times… kinda cramped . People don’t realize the Army has fixed wing acft not just rotary wing.
This isn’t a HALO jump, no oxygen, HALO are typically 25,000 to 40,000 feet. This jump was 12,000 feet at its best.

Next to a DC3 skyvan was my favorite jump plane. Fancy helmets but still scared shit.
This isn’t a Skyvan. A skyvan is much smaller.
Only the second PMS Express I've seen
This jump is horrible!
1. Protrusions on the outside of the advanced combat helmets
2. No rip cord grip awareness
3. Excess webbing not stowed all over the place
4. No ramp exits are permitted for 6th jumps
5. Tether check AFTER initial clear to the rear
6. No ramp check
7. No interval commands ( I understand this is daytime but come on!)

So no one has explained or asked about the guys with the orange things in a ridge across the top of their helmets?
I think that was their first jump.

Your first jump in the fleet is referred to as your cherry jump. Sometimes they'll put red tape all over your helmet or draw dicks and other kinds of crazy stuff.

What’s with the chicken helmets?
Guys with “chicken” helmets are probably new guys on their first jump with their unit. Back in my day our “cherries” wore white helmets with cherries painted on them. A “Cherry” was just the new guy. It was a little harmless harassment and a warning to the more experienced guys to stay out of the cherry’s way so you didn’t get hurt.

I AM Prior Service USMC and US Army ( 1987AD-1998AD), but , can anyone, whether Military, Veteran or Civilian, Please and Thank You, tell this American Citizen of Puerto Rican descent, when did The United States Army started to add fixed - wing Aircraft to It's primarily rotary- wing Aviation? Did not both The United States Air Force and The United States Army signed some sort of agreement that all fixed- wing assets were to be controlled by The Air Force?! Hmm , interesting.🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🦅🗽⚔️🔫
The army maintained a limited fixed-wing capability - typically light transport and support craft, VIP aircraft, and some intel platforms. They are not supposed to have armed fixed-wing aircraft although some enterprising folks had weapons on Mohawks.

Mc Connell, USAF, along with The Key West Agreement, codified the Roles and Missions of Army and Air Force Aviation assets, and, which Branch of Service could use either Fixed- Wing, Rotary- Wing ,or Tilt- Rotor Aircraft, however, The Global War On Terror/ International Battle Against Terrorism ( GWOT/ IBAT) blurred those barriers, because, I believe, that, Air Force pilots can fly helicopter gunships, and, Army Aviators can fly A-29 Super Tuscano for CAS and Aerial Overwatch.🇺🇸🦅🗽⚔️
@@johnrodriguez3870 The army gave up much of their fixed-wing aircraft in exchange for an end to restrictions on Army rotary-wing operations. And while I agree that the lines are blurred in the GWOT era, the army has had fixed-wing aircraft for decades including Mohawks, C-12 Intel platforms, UC-35's, and other VIP transports like the C-20/C-27. And the USAF had the Pave Low choppers for Spec ops use. In short, the army has had limited fixed-wing capabilities for decades even in the aftermath of the Key West Agreement. And NG units have had more flexibility as they have the need to respond to natural disasters. I hope you are right about the A-29's as that would be great for army units in contact - although I would still prefer to call an A-10!
AIRBORNE ALL THE WAY
This is the most unsafe jump I’ve ever seen by military.
1. No Rip Cord grip awareness of reserve parachutes in the aircraft.
2. Unnecessary protrusions (red stuff on helmets) which can catch on low ceiling during exit.
3. Poor static line control
I can keep going but you get the point.
im not even military but im not a fan of how the static lines go all flying around after they jump out. seems like it could get caught in someone chute....
