Got to play bass for him for about 8-10 months in the SF Bay Area in the late 80's or early 90's. Learned a lot - people just loved him and he always kept the crowd. If you were doing your job he was fun to play with...screwing up ...not quite so much but he always said what he wanted on the break so I learned a lot...and I miss him. Most of the gigs we did were at JJ's on Stevens Creek in San Jose and sometimes their club in Mountain View. At some point he left and went to Chicago or someplace. Never saw him again.
hey monahawk! I played guitar for Larry during that time period starting in 86. I went to Chicago with Larry in 1988. I was in LA and met him in San Jose. I remember JJ's and a few of the people Larry played with. I may have met you! Anyway, we played a few days in Chicago then hung out in St. Louis on our way to Larry's hometown Little Rock. Larry went back to LA. I went back east. He got married there. I played my last gig with Larry in 93 in Little Rock because i was living in memphis at that time. He was gigging alot in Calif. up until he got sick and he passed in April of 1994. Everyone knew Larry was the best out there! Seeing him live the 1st time blew my mind. Nobody could touch him playing guitar or singing. But if you asked Larry he would say it was Little Milton. He loved Little Milton. I really miss Larry.
I watched an SRV 3 part interview today and he said Larry Davis was one of his biggest influences. So that is what brought me here today. Larry sure is fine. I 'll be listening for awhile I guess by the sounds of this great album. Thx so much.

Great blues man, playing and singing. Caught on to him in the late 1980s. I like his rendition of As the Years Go Passing By as the very best. 1:58

SRV led me to Larry Davis too. Great artist. Dynamic as can be!
This is a smoking album very hard to find a wonderful player and singer.
