This opens up so many possibilities!!! Love your videos, I subscribed just now. It‘s great to see ways to make customized dice (I dm and I wanted to provide my players with character specific dice), without spending an unrealistic amount of money for most. Also the music adds a nice ambience :D
Glad my video inspired you. :) I won't say this a cheap medium, especially for making dice, but if you have access to the right tools--pressure pot being one, and a good mold, it's well worth the opportunity to make something truly one-of-a-kind. As for the music, I found it by typing "adventure music" into Sound Cloud and it delivered! I do plan on more videos in the near future, so stay tuned!
I had no idea I wanted to make dice. The UA-cam algorithm showed me one of your videos, now I can't stop and I want to make dice! I can't believe this only has 215 views. Those dice are beautiful!

The dice blanks are the same ratio. They are small enough to nest within the number depth of the main dice mold. If they were the exact same dimensions there would be no room for the numbers and it would deform the final castings.
Do you happen to know what pottery wheel you use? I tried finding a small one, but it ended up being too small; there wasn't any room to tape the paper down and the slightest pressure caused the wheel to stop turning. Yours looks to be the perfect size!

Don’t know for sure but aren’t you supposed to NOT press on squish molds? The pressure pot will compress the resin too so you will need more resin than what fits in the mold
If you don't press the lid down initially you'll get very thick flashing between the dice and the widths will be off. You need to seat the lid firmly enough. The pressure pot will then compress any micro-bubbles in the resin, but what is left under the lid should fill in the voids.
Unless you are super lucky with the casting you will likely always end up with at least one side that needs a bit of polishing. Sharp-edges are easy to keep, always sand with the face flat and it shouldn't round the edges.
I have experience mold making, but I have yet to 3D print my own masters. I do have a filament 3D printer and this is on my list of "to do"s. I would love to have my own special mark on the dice. When I get to that point I'll keep in mind I should film it.
Idk if this is feasible, but the channel DIYPerks made a video once, where he gave ABS (I think???) filament printed pieces an acetone fume treatment and it made even more complex pieces really smooth. It looked relatively easy to do if I remember correctly. Though the filament has to be acetone meltable and I don‘t know what materials that applies to. If you‘re making flat sided dice, it‘s probably still easier to sand them. Just if they have complex 3D shapes, that would be hard to get to
I have a filament printer and did the ABS smoothing trick on a print ... at least my first experience with it wasn't so smooth--pun intended. Not sure why it didn't work like the magic shown. I have yet to make my own master prints, but will probably just sand them. ABS with the acetone smoothing might create a problem the faces the dice rest on. Alternatively, one can also us the vibration tumbler method to get them smooth. This is another device I don't have yet, but might get. :)
I got my mold set from Druid Dice. They have the dimensions listed on their site--it's quite a lot to type out. :D There are others who supply nesting blanks out there.
It's a mini pottery wheel. I bought it off Amazon, but sadly last time I was asked and looked for it this particular model isn't available any longer. There may be others, though. I admit this made things sooooo much easier!
Your videos are by far the most helpful for dice making advice.
I'm very glad you find them helpful. They're fun to put together. I just have to remember to film every step. ;)

These are great! I need to get some blank molds 😊
They are very fun to play with!

Awesome! Then I count this video a success as it is meant to inspire creativity! If you ever have any questions feel free to drop me a line.
Thanks for the offer! I appreciate it. :)
Reminds me of the Metallica, Ride the Lightning album cover. Nice job!
That's one helluva compliment. Thank you! ;) Yes, I have listened to Metallica while pouring in the shop.
These are so beautiful. Well done!
I suspect these won't be in my inventory very long.
it seems very detailed
Thank you. :)
For me it looks less like a lightning and more lika a Lapis Lazuli stone (which in my books is great!)
That works too! The Nokon Blue mica from Eye Candy does have a very Lapis Lazuli color. It's why it's one of my favorites to use.
Hey! My first sets of dice are curing in the pressure pot! Thank you so much for the tips. I can’t way to see how they turn out!
So excited for you! May the dice odds be in your favor and grant you a flawless cast!

Question about this brilliant process. Are the dimensions of the numbered molds the same as the dimensions of the Blank molds?
The dice blanks are the same ratio. They are small enough to nest within the number depth of the main dice mold. If they were the exact same dimensions there would be no room for the numbers and it would deform the final castings.

I was wondering, is there a way to avoid sanding ? Partially cause I want sharp edged dice

Do you have any experience with mold making and 3D (resin) printing your own masters? If so, that's a video I'd be interested in watching. :)

I have a filament and resin printer. I feel like a filament printer would require a LOT of work on the masters to hide the layer lines. :/
@@user-is6xp9sk9zIt'll take sanding and polishing, no doubt.
