- It's time to let our locks down whilst in lockdown, and I know a whole lot of people are learning how to cut their own hair at home. So I thought I would Zoom call my friend and faithful hair stylist @George Northwood for a consultation, which happens to include a review of some of my past haircuts.

I've lost count of how many times I've brought a picture of Alexa to my hairdresser's 😂
omg me too! Never forget the time I brought a picture of her bangs to the saloon. It ended up being my worst haircut ever but the picture was so beautiful.
loooool I asked for her hair for my prom and they just butchered me, had to go to my prom with an ear length bob, never recovered

As a hairdresser I'm so taken with George, think he's fabulous. Many male hair stylists can have rather big ego's, especially those frequented by A listers & the so called 'in crowd" for their hair.
George comes across as being relaxed, self-confident, an excellent hairdresser & just a genuine bloke.
Hasn't got the attitude of he's Mr Cool, the greatest hairstist around & does so & so's hair.
Alexa Chung doesn’t have soft features. She has an almost androgynous face in the most gorgeous way possible.
chaton20 I think he means she has full almost baby lips and the big blue doe eyes, that’s pretty feminine? The harsh jawline and cheekbones are what gives off the androgynous face you’re talking about
Mia you’re right! It’s just that jawline and cheekbones matter more to a hairdresser than eyes and lips.

I met Alexa back in 2016 with that Mullet haircut and I'm still in recovery how gorgeous and stunning she is.
(But tbh she truly rocks anything! )

Very slight variations in color and length, so yeah, seems like it.

So glad George said not to cut layers to make hair look fuller - I have fine wavy hair similar to Alexa's and hairdressers always want to layer it but then it just fluffs outwards 😠🤬 One length works much better for me! It's only taken me 40 years to realise! Luckily I cut my own hair now so can do what I like 👍

Every hairdresser for 30 yrs has told me my hair is fine but there’s lots of it! So glad it’s not just me! Was great to hear a few tips.
HAIR FACTS: Fine is the texture. Thin/thick is How Much Hair. You and I both have Fine Thick hair. Get it? We're lucky as long as we're careful with cleansing and styling, Less is More.

Love the few tips in this video! I have thin hair and it's always a struggle to make it grow long in a cool way. And he's right, layers don't work for my hair type. It's sad but I learned to accept that I can't grow my hair longer than my collarbone area. It just won't work. You both are great together, pure charisma! xoxo

I enjoyed this more than is normal. Have been cutting Jane Birkin-y layers into my hair since I was a young teen and have got to know my own hair, face shape etc better as a result. There’s a time and a place for little at home tweaks and snips! ✂️

why would anyone feel bad or embarrassed about bringing in pics to their hairstylist of the cut they want? that doesn't make any sense.
Right? I do that all the time to give them a visual. How else would they know?
I THINK it might be because people bring in unattainable pictures and get upset if they didn't look exactly the same?
Personally I always bring in a photo (or few!) because it helps my hairdresser and I figure out what I like about the pic, which we then try to create with my hair. I find this really helps with the "hairdresser" vs "normal people" language differences too.

My daughter is six and cut her hair "accidentally", so responsible mummy trimmed it even more after a few glasses of vino! She looks as cool as Alexa now

оmg i'm enjoying this so much!! he seems like a lovely hairdresser and I never realised up until now how many hair styles Alexa went through in the years haha. we both have a very similar face with similar features and what George was saying about her hair being a lot but very fine is legit what my hair is like... and whenever I have tried layers it just goes flat :( one length, shoulder length it is then!

I always use the term “bangs” but “fringe” sounds more sophisticated so from now on it’s in my vocab 😂😂

And have to say that the only time ihave brought a pic of her as inspo for the hairdresser I got the best haircut. I absolutely loved it.
