The legendary "Lion Of The Blues" recorded "Call On Me" in 1962. It was released by Duke Records and reached #22 on the national singles chart.

Very reminiscent of Jackie Edwards. I love BB's blues songs but this reveals a much more melodic side to his vocals. Thanks for putting it on here.

DUKE- y PEACOCK de Don Robey dieron forma a un estilo gospel blues que raramente alcanzó el mercado pop en aquella época ,pero que fue ampliamente influyente diez años después.
- Las carreras de Bobby Bland y Junior Parker estuvieron ligadas estrechamente ,durante algunos años,porque fueron de giras juntos,bajo el título de " Blues Consolidated".
Bobby Bland realizó la mayoría de sus discos con el *arreglista y productor Joe Scott * y Junior Parker grabó a menudo con * Bill Harvey* y entre ellos desarrollaron una mezcla -única de JAZZ Y BLUES-para acompañar a los estilos de influencia gospel de los cantantes.

Primer éxito de Bobby Bland en el mercado de R&B ,con inflexiones ligeras de gospel, que gozaba de un acompañamiento de una alegra banda de blues con riffs y solos de saxo que proporcionaban un fondo fuerte para la melosa voz de barítono del cantante.
Durante los próximos años* las inflexiones gospel se hicieron más pronunciadas *,en ocasiones alcanzaban la intensidad de B.B King y otras veces era a través del estilo chillón de Ray Charles.
Aunque Bobby Bland no echaba mano habitualmente de estas estratagemas y transmitía convicción con el sentimiento global de -implicación inherente a su tono,rico y puro-.
------Mientras otras compañías ,como Atlantic,King o Imperial dejaban que las big band de blues degeneraran al introducir cuerdas y grupos femeninos en sus discos de R&B, -DUKE/ PEACOCK redujo estas técnicas al mínimo.------
- Bobby Bland con sus temas:
" CRY CRY CRY,1960", " I PITY THE FOOL,1961","STORMY MONDAY,1962" y éxitos posteriores eran blues de la más alta calidad ,cantados con convicción y arreglados imaginativamente .
"TURN ON YOUR LOVELIGHT,1961" y "YIELD NOT TO TEMPTATION,1962" tenían arreglos gospel,con estructuras de "llamada y respuesta" como las de " HIT THE ROAD,JACK".
**Bobby Bland se las arregló para mantener su estilo y así *-CALL ON ME* ,1963 fue uno de los discos pop MÁS HERMOSOS GRABADOS JAMÁS.
