    I wish I had enough will power to keep my braids in for more than a month . At 3 weeks I start to get annoyed

    I think that's one of the many benefits of having 4c hair!!!!! That bihh strong and I personally believe that it don't get damage easy. Well at least for me.

    • @BlacPhoenix

      Yes our hair can hold protective styles for a long time with minimal damage. I remember when I was 10 I got my first relaxer and my 11 almost all of my hair broke off I was basically bald, but not to the scalp. After that My mom had my hair braided every 2 months and in school people would be like dang when are you taking those braids down like it was even their business. My hair grew back in almost nine months and personally I believe braids are the best for 4c hair as long as we moisturize and sleep with a scarf or bonnet on and our hair is good. With 4c hair people have all these opinions about our hair and they have zero experience with our hair so I just ignore all unsolicited opinions these days and stick to what works for my hair and I think this is pretty good routine for us 4c's with proper maintenance of course. The only thing that has ever damaged my hair is heat and chemicals

      I think we have confused what our version of strong hair is. We are told to straighten and tame it and if its not strong in an unnatural state then it is weak. Our natural hair is strong its when we over manipulate it with heat and chemicals that weaken it. My 4c is very strong and I love it

      wow never thought. It just goes to show everything isn't for them even tho they like to appropriate our culture while trying to discriminate against us for it.

    oh my!! I have 4c hair as well and you are right it doesnt get damaged with protective styles like this. Mine grows great with braids but If i wear my hair out for a while, i notice I dont get the same result, but it seems to love being in braids or something. Great Vid!

      Yeah. I feel like my hair looks and feels thinner after a while when it's not in a protective style. I'm going to try 3 month protective styles until my 4c hair reaches my length goal. And I notice that I'm less prone in buying a lot of hair products so it helps me to keep things simple and save money! :)

    My 4c hair is strong as hell too. It can handle a lot and it's just like yours. It might look rough once a hairstyle gets really old but when you wash and deep condition it it bounces right back. I personally wouldn't want any other hair type, we can get away with a lot because of the strength of our hair. Thanks for the video

    You didn’t have the braids for 3 months though. If you did the braids On February 14, March 14 made one month and April 14 made 2 months. The video was uploaded in April and it would have made 3 months on May 14.

I have 4c hair I struggled with for sooo long because it was sooo dry! I finally learned hair smoothies and the right products. My hair is way longer the second time natural than the first!!! Love you video and info! 😊

    Like honestly with 4c hair in braids (well for me) I don't get breakage , and I don't moisturize my hair either until I take down the braids and nothing happens, no breakage or anything except for I need to get my ends trimmed. This is why I only do braids , no maintenance is needed (for me)

    • @BlacPhoenix
      @BlacPhoenix  6 років тому

      samantha rael that’s a good method you have, but I remove my braids then add oil to the roots and throughout my hair, then I add conditioner to that to loosen up the build up at the roots and I leave that on for 20 minutes - a couple hours (depending on the season and what I’m doing for the day), then I comb all the junk out, wash my hair and do that process again if I haven’t detangled well enough.

    • @BlacPhoenix
      @BlacPhoenix  5 років тому +2

      I normally get a spray bottle and fill it with mostly water and add 10-20 drops of any oil I have, aloe vera juice, conditioner and a few drops of tea tree oil (or any essential oil you have) to keep it fresh. I spray that all over the braids then I will take some shea butter and oil my scalp and braids with that. I also keep my scalp clean by using a mix of a few tea spoons of baking soda and water. And I condition with a few teaspoons of Apple cider vinegar mixed with water. I've also soaked my braids on pink sea salt mixed with water and that made my hair really soft and scalp really clean before I took my last braids out!

    I want to do this with my hair, according to my mom I'm post relaxer about four months and yesterday I got a trim. I want to do jumbo box braids and my goal is to leave it in for 3 months starting this month, I don't know if they can last that long though because when my hair gets really loose, sometimes the braids fallout on their own. Any Advice ??

    • @BlacPhoenix
      @BlacPhoenix  7 років тому +1

      I suggest you use 100% Kanekalon braiding hair because it is more coarse than Xpressions or human braiding hair. Also if your braids slip really bad then I suggest maybe you get a cornrow hairstyle and that will also last for 2-3 months as long as you wash, condition and moisturize your cornrows and also tie them up at night with a scarf to keep them neat looking thru out the months you wear them. And remember this is a protective style so don't worry too much about your hair growing because it will grow :) I guarantee you

    • @britneyavila76

      I've left braids in for 5 months before and I had to cut them out, but I didn't get a touch up so maybe if you get your perimeter touched up, if you make sure your scalp is clean and braids are well moisturized you probably can stretch them to 5 months. people with locs leave them in all the time so I don't see why it would cause damage as long as you moisturize and don't use a lot of products that would cause build up, because that could cause the braids to loc too and when you take them down be very careful and not rough. I deep conditioned my hair for days after I took my braids down before I even tried to detangle so the buildup would just slip off

      Blac Phoenix im also going on 10 months of being natural so its better thick

    • @BlacPhoenix
      @BlacPhoenix  7 років тому +5

      yay! congratulations! Being natural can be a job, but as long as you keep your routine simple and have a good shampoo, conditioner and oil you will be fine. Unfiltered Apple Cider Vinegar and baking soda is also good for cleansing your scalp and hair while the braids are in. Keeping your hair stretched and in protective styles to protect your ends from knots will promote growth whether you have weave in or not. My hair has grown a lot from keeping my natural hair braided and wearing wigs, because sometimes the braiding weave can cause more dryness and your hair could break from that. Good luck on your journey and its a learning process so enjoy every step 😘

    Are you able to retain the length you've grown? That's often the hard part for many.

    • @BlacPhoenix
      @BlacPhoenix  7 років тому

      I was completely bald in February 2016 so I've retained all of this length and I think my hair could be longer so I'm working on retaining length as well. My favorite youtuber used to be African Export and she is great at retaining 4c hair. She doesn't really make videos anymore, but I think her old ones are still up.

      Jasmine Davis I’m sure it grew lots! It should’ve grown at least 3-4 inches but there will be shedding. Make sure you deep condition your hair right after you take the braid out for 30 minutes to 1 hour then comb all the dead hair out, shampoo, condition again, rinse it out, oil your hair and scalp and hair 🙂

      Most non-black people experience hair loss when wearing braids. This is because braids are used as a protective style for black people's natural hair not just a fashion statement. Non-black people are welcome to wear braids however you may more than likely experience hair loss because your hair doesn't need the same styles as our hair just like how black people experience hair loss when we attempt to overly straighten our hair.

      Its more than likely oil, conditioner, and gel caught in the hair that would normally shed daily.
