      Pretty much all the time on these boats. The old boat I didn't really have to worry about falling overboard, but this one it's much more likely

    Hi Capt Ken, like the haircut mate. U can't blame yourself for a line break ok. ? When ur boat in shallow water like that, do u have a pole anchor or do u use something else to keep it where u put it. Good job again, enjoy the channel and it's heaps better now ur talking to us and we x an see what ur doing. Thanks Ken.👍🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟how about putting a winch on the stern, for line recovery, instead of u having to pull in both line and boat. 😁 beautiful dogs. Gotta say it
    P!$$€$ me off when the Capt of a vessel is drinking on board.

      Thanks Sea Wench!
      I'm not sure why he said he was drinking because he wasn't...but 🤷
      In shallow water like that, I'll just beach the boat and leave one engiin gear to hold it in place. This boat actually had a line reel under the seat, but we took it out because it was a pain in the ass to use and much easier to just dump the line into a bucket

    He doesnt blame others when he makes a mistake,, maybe the capt of a crew of 1, but thats still what a leader does.

      Thanks Vancity! It wasn't that heavy of a boat, and there was still a good amount of water underneath it...just not enough for him to power across 😂

    I was worried you'd stumble, fall in the water, and set off your PFD.

    • @CaptKenO
      @CaptKenO  Рік тому +2

      Haha. That wouldn't be ideal 😬
      I'm pretty sure the jacket has to be submerged for a few seconds before it'll activate though. I've gotten drenched by rain and spray and it's never gone off...although I did set it off once by accident hosing it off after one of those saltwater drenchings 🤣

    Thanks for the great videos Captain! What type of knot do you use for these rescues? Is there a particular knot that you would use for certain rescues or certain situations? Keep up the great work.

    • @CaptKenO
      @CaptKenO  Рік тому +4

      Thanks Mick! 99.9% of the time I'm tying the knot (when stern towing at least) I use a bowline. It's a non cinching knot that is relatively easy to undo even after being under load. If I'm tying to a cleat I'll use a cleat hitch. These are really the only 2 knots you need

    I have a patented 40 x 12 shallow draft fast barge, it weighs 8,800 lbs, sits in 5 inches of water, its great for shallow and deep water ops, I have used different OB motors but love 150 hp Suzuki, so reliable easy service long lasting, how do you like those 2oo hp susukis for towing? do you have a special tow or barge prop on them?

    • @CaptKenO
      @CaptKenO  10 місяців тому +1

      Well...these lasted about a month with us before a through hull fitting failed overnight and the boat partially sunk...but loved them for the short time I ran them. We just repowerd the boat with the Suzuki inline 4 cylinder 200hp, standard prop, so I should be getting that boat back around the end of January

    Lets see cruising along and low & behold the water ahead looks shallower....no wait its just clearer....full speed ahead....lol...definitely a newbie boater. What amazes me most boaters who get stuck don't realize lighten the load, get in the water and just maybe you can push your boat off., but oh no that's water....
    Question on your video where you pulled the sailboat free twice, what RPM's were you running. I'm amazed at how hard your boat was struggling and the "H" stand can withstand the pressure on it.

    • @CaptKenO
      @CaptKenO  Рік тому +1

      I was maxed out pulling at 3300 rpm (those engines torque limit themselves when dead pulling).
      This guy wasn't a newbie. Just caught up talking with his buddy and not paying attention.
      You say people don't realize they can get off, but you have no idea how many calls we get where we get dispatched and then 15min later they call back and said they got the 5 people off the 21ft center console and now the boat floats free 🤦‍♂️

    Rope/Line degrades after a every load also UV rays and I’m sure salt air and salt water takes its toll. Rope used for a life line is to only be used as a life line only once. Another very interesting video.

    dont have to throw away rode you can give it away to sailer they could use it just tie they boat up at dock or it could come in handy someday never know i understand it snap when it pulled too hard
    i was wonder if you would like remote control engine it have 2 stick just clip on you belt and move left stick up or down it move gear and rev engine up so you dont have to worry about boat float a away

      Can't really give it away for liability reasons...if I do and something happens, I could open myself up to a lawsuit.
      I would love to have a remote control for the boat! Unfortunately this boat isn't setup for it and even if it was, they're very expensive add-ons

      ah, ok. gotcha. I thought you were talking about a commercially available option. Thank you for the offer though, but we would need a commercial option for safety and reliability
