- Using a Bluetti AC200 Max to Power My Camper Van Life Going completely off grid.
I have done this as an experiment to find out if it really is worth investing in this type of power system to power your off grid home on wheels. is it possible?

Thanks for this video Mel
I’ve had mine now since March and use it daily at home for verious things,
I have the 30 amp lead as am going to use it in my next van build so enjoyed seeing your doing the same 👍
this is the way I'd like to go with my eventual build, so its going to be interesting to see the long term review
Great video as always,,
I have the EB3A and loving it to see how much certain appliances draw in current,,
Hay buddy thank you 🙏
Great video Mel, really helpful. We have an EB70 so we can run a Dyson fan or boil a kettle when off grid (boiling on electric is quicker than gas). Inspired by your previous videos
Thank you buddy that’s really kind of you to say 🙏
Just come across your UA-cam channel, brilliant, we're just building our van, and you have confirmed something we've been thinking about, we're looking at the ecoflow pro to be the power plant, brilliant vids by the way
a great idea, Mel and if I ever manage to afford a Bluetti thats the way I'm going to go- all powerpack and no gas. Respect and regards-Kenny
What an interesting video Mel . I have a ring solar controller like yours with two 120 agm cannot start my diesel heater with out running the van. Will not run fridge all night. So have ordered an ecoflow to help.
What you have done is amazing.
Thank you buddy that’s really appreciated good luck with your setup 👍
Another excellent vid mel.
I had to bite the bullet and but a motorhome & now can't wait to relocate back home to Kent.
Nice to see your looking good mel.
Extremely great video😊 always like your videos as you go the extra mile to experiment.
Looks amazing set up bud 💙
Thank you buddy 👍
@@BigVanSmallWorld 🤗💙
Very informative Mel. So nice when a plan come together!
I got a little lost at first but I'll put that down to old age, covid, gastroenteritis and brexit of which I'm suffering from at present😮💨
Thank you buddy
Unreal how hot the UK is now. I'm originally from the UK and moved to Australia in 2000. New Zealand since 2007. Every year the temperature in the UK has risen. Late October and 29 degs? Mental.
I'm going to do the same, from ground up. I would have done a new XT60 (I believe) with wire. So the are always able to disconnect and use with other connector.
It's awesome unit.
Do note the fan outlet is on your panel side.
Another excellent video Mel and a really good power set up too :)
Agree with Martin 200 w is 17 amps that needs 5mm wire. Interesting to measure voltage drops on the wire connectors.
Fantastic and informative!!
Nice on Mel we have gone the same way but we not full time so went for the Ecoflow Delta Pro when not out in van it's paying for its self by running part of the house.
Brilliant
Absolutely BRILLIANT!! Such a helpful video 👍👍👍👍👍 Defo need to hook one of these up to the alternator if you're in England!!
No problem 👍glad you enjoyed it 🙏
Nice plug n play solution👍
Nice one helped me out no end
Glad I could help
Another great video and a great peace of kit. A bit out of our price range at the moment so our 3 Yr old agm batteries will have to do for now 👍
Thank you 🙏
Great vid , ok loads of info, nice one, thanks Mel, 😜👍
Big fan of bluetti. This will be my next power station. Thanks for sharing. Maybe it's just something done in the states, but the outer jacket of wires usually has the wire gauge and # of conductors stamped or written on them. Seems a shame to cut them just to find out what gauge the wires are.
I do these experiments for people to see what they are getting for their money and for my own curiosity to I’m glad you liked the video thank you for taking the time to comment really appreciate your encouragement 👍🤓👍
Superb video mel. Especially liked the builders bum part at 5:05. Cracking stuff
Haha 😂 thank you for the encouragement 👍
it would be nice to mention the cost of the product(aprox), many vanlifers avoid it,especially if they have been gifted the item...
Great video Mel as always 👍 I'd love to know how you wired that switch up that allowes you to toggle between 2 different power sources. I want to do something similar with my 100amp Lithium and my backup 110amp lead acid.
Another fascinating video. You'll know this I'm sure, but computers have 12volt fans in them. I strip them out and use to blow across items that produce heat, for example, my tv is running from a 300 Watt invertor that would shut down at times due to overheating. A well placed ex computer fan solved this issue. Wish I could afford the Bluetti as my van is all electric and it would be so useful, although we do stay on sites that have hook up.
That’s brilliant 👍👍
Brilliant 👍
Very informative video. The thumbnail fooled me though, I thought the Bluetti was an accordion 😄
Lol 😂
Great vid mel always enjoy watching your vids 👍
Thank you buddy 👍
Hi mel i use a ecoflow river pro plus the extra battery works great in my van changes through a 12v inverter when driving the van get the full 660w
Nice 👍
Mel the Grey charging box is a power booster as well so it’s taking the 12 V and boosts the amperage to the input of the mains socket on the AC200 so it works like a victim battery to battery unit so the Cable input only needs to be thin as it’s not taking a lot of power 👍👍
Oh thanks buddy 👍
In regards to that, would it be worthwhile getting a sterling power DC-DC Battery to Battery Charger 12V 70A in - 48V, I don't have a voltage sensing relay, (my vehicle is a Kia Carnival 2022 mini-van, so I'm starting from scratch), or would I be better off with a Victron Orion-Tr Smart 12/12 - 30 Isolated DC/DC Charger, or something else? I'm trying to wrap my head around all of this, and not sure what is best to get to charge from the alternator to my AC200MAX, pretty, pretty please guys.
@@vickimathews1970 Hi in my van I have Victron 30 amp battery to battery charger that charges my leisure lithium battery then I run a separate fused charging lead to my AC 200 max
I have a 320amp eco-tree lithium battery that runs all my 12v system and it can also charge my AC200Max but if needed the AC200Max can also charge my leisure lithium battery if needed too So I have two independent systems that can charge each other if required
@@onemanandhiswhippet thank you so much for responding.
Is it a waste to get the Sterling Power 12 to 48V/70A B2B Charger, will the Victron 12V to 12V/30A do the same thing due to how much the AC200MAX can take in, does it even need a B2B Charger, do you just attach the car battery to the AC200MAX using the connector Bluetti have for the lead acid battery? (I have that already)
I like your setup, great idea.
@@vickimathews1970 I how much prefer the Victron battery to battery unit as it boost the power up to 30amps if you don’t have a lithium leisure battery it will struggle I would buy a large lithium battery that’s unless your battery before I bought a solar generator !
The 12v from my leisure battery goes through a fuse and to the 200Max 12v input but I also use a Bluetti D050S DC Charging Enhancer this enables 12 V to be put within the mains input of the 200Max too therefore I can put 200 Amps in from my battery system
Also by using the Bluetti D050S DC Charging Enhancer I can plug portable solar panels in to let you know as well 👍👍
When we had our horrific bushfires, in several Australian states the temp was 52C - was like being put in an oven. Cheers from Queensland Australia.
Oh I love Queensland many happy memories of my time there and some sad ones too 🙏🇦🇺🤗
Thank you sir!! Awesome job. How many watts do your plug output put out? The US version have 120watt outputs. I think?
Great video Mel ,looks nice but I’m wondering , would you personally buy one of these for your everyday electrics or would you still go old style with split charger and a few batteries in the back ?
Greta video but now you have introduced a SPoF (single point of failure) in the 12v socket and also the Bluetti unit itself. 2 x100ah LiFEpo4 batteries would be better option, at least if 1 failed would still have power in the other battery.
Really enjoyed that Mal, cheers.
Thank you 🙏
Great video Mel. You were confused that with the lights etc in the van turned off, the watts from solar and VSR went down. It's because battery management in the Bluetti charges at a progressively slower rate the nearer to 100% it gets. But of course, when you turn the DC output back on to power all the lights etc in the van, it will show a higher draw even though the charge rate remains the same.
Thank you that makes perfect sense 👍😊👍
@OMNISLASHER1000I am sure that they come with local plugs but you can buy an adapter. Are you based in the UK?
Sorry, I meant sockets
Very tempted by one of these but as its a big long term in investment would expect a longer warranty than 2 years.
Great video. Very informative. How would you suggest connecting to a smart alternator with the dc enhancer? Thanks 👍🏻
Great video Mel as always, can’t help thinking, this reminds me of the great Kenny Everett’s Reg Prescott character !😂👍
Haha 😂
Great video mell and very informative 👍 even though its all beyond me m8 take care mucka 😉🙏🙏🙏😁
Thanks for the videos ,they are so helpful ,We just got the same a power unit as you , our split charger is 140amp did you just wire is straight to the enhancer wires , you made it all easy and simple cheers
That’s correct 👍
Very interesting, always wondered if you could just hook one of those into your 12V system in a campervan. I was surprised you could charge via 2 different sources at the same time. I think that first cable did look very thin, maybe only 10 Amps or less.....
Hi Linz yea it’s working a treat 👍
Brilliant
Great video as always can I ask the 30amp lead is there a knack to connecting it mine I can’t get to screw in ?
Interesting video. Why not just switch your 4no. AGM batteries for an equivalent Lithium Ion battery instead of the Bluetti?
Do you still have the ac max set like this? Make sure there is some space on the sides, there is the suction fan and on the other side the fan that discharges warm air. Maybe turn it a quarter so that everything has plenty of room
Great Vid Mel. I just recently installed the bluetti 200max. Great power bank. At the mo I only have 200watts of solar. Will be interesting it to 400 soon so charging could be better. I haven’t got a DC to DC charger yet but I experimented with an
2000 inverter and plugged in the AC charger.. wow.. 400-500 watts going in. Seems better than buying the bluetti DC charger.. is the Bluetti still holding up for your needs as I think this is the way to go.. cheers mate. Thanks for posting videos
Sounds great!
Hi Mel, excellent video. I'm now away to buy myself a bluetti thingy- the same as yours. And do the same things as you. Can you tell me what cable that you ended up using?
I'm probably going to do similar, Built in mppt and inverter makes for a lot less wires and hassle. Though I'm probably looking at ecoflow over these or jackery just based on the fast charge capabilities.
The one good thing the AC200 has over the rest is the 35amp 12v outlet all the others only have 12v 10amp if you’re fridge come on at the same time as your diesel heater it will trip the 10amp out 👍
@@BigVanSmallWorld thanks Mel, obviously there's more things I need to consider 👍
I am going to do this setup on my van minus the leisure battery etc as new build I want to just run off the Bluetti. Can you draw up a wiring diagram and share what you bought. Happy to purchase through your links so you get some money from this
What a fantastic addition! Let me know how it goes. I don't buy things online. That would be the biggest leap for me🥺. Now go wash your solar panels, LOL😁
Hi Mel, You read my mind Ive searched but not found an answer to this until I saw your Video.I have planned a similar idea, Could you please confirm I have got this correct. You can charge the Powerstation with a B2B charger? I am going to keep my leisure batteries but I use a CPAP machine and have bought a Ecoflow Delta 2 for this purpose but it will need to be charged regular so I am also looking at a way to use the power of the alternator to charge the station. I have x2 sterling 110ah lith batts and 2x B2B 60w chargers so I'm hoping I can get this to work I'm just not great on electrics and working it all out it fries my little brain cells. great video TY
Thanks for all the info! What happens if you plug your dc to dc charger into the aviation jack input of the Bluetti? Can you get more than that 180W out of it? I'd quite like to charge it with 900W, especially if connecting a B230 extension battery to it. Thanks :)
Sounds like the ideal way to power the van and do away with some of the leasure batteries.
Thanks Mel and have a good trip away.
Mel. Any chance you can show how you connected the wires to the relay. Are you connecting both wires or just one of the two that you cut. Both black and red. Which to where. Thanks..
Hi Mel, how did you connect the VSR to the supplied Bluetti adapter wires?
Well done Mel. Iwas expecting melted wires at some point during the video, but it seems not.
Thank you all good 👍
thanks for this video! Im about to buy ac200 for my old ducato motorhome. do you think I can plug this the same way you did ? I mean your system looks diy so you have the fuse box. can I get an update how it performs after? I want to exact same way as you did in to my ducato. and you know this black cube thats go between bluetti enchancer and alternator. where I can get one?

would love to have a break down of all the "optional extras" costs it took to make it integrated like the dc>dc charge unit etc whilst you have a link and cost to the dc charger i think you mentioned other cables you had to buy optional extra or were they included in hte dc charge unit
Sounds like a good idea for a new video I’ll see what I can do 👍
Bluetti makes a good foot stool. Awesome stuff 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Great power station..
Thanks for the vidéo! At the first step, you chose (and cut) a wire that's too small. And then you chose another one ( bigger). The bigger one (the good one you choose) is the 12V/30 AMP RV cable from Bluetti?
yes its the buletti RV cable without the extension plugged in the end of it
Interesting video, especially in regard to your connection with the alternator. One question though: isn't the AC200MAX a bit oversized for your setup? I mean, did you choose this one over Bluetti's smaller products for a specific reason? Asking because I'm doubting what I should do.
The AC200 Max has a 12v 30amp outlet that’s perfect for a RV or camper van that’s why I’m using it in my van also I intend to do a one year un sponsored review on how it’s performed over time so I can give my honest unbiased opinion of Bluetti AC200 max I hope this helps
My van has 240v mains input so I simply connect 240v bluetti outlet to 240v input on van and run van as if I were connected to mains power.
Fantastic 👍
I do like them new all fandangled power stations, but they r so dear! Also in winter with short sun hrs would need lots of solar to fully recharge in day ,I still think for winter heating n cooking electric is not the way , unfortunately I think we will still be burning gas n diesel in winter months
Why 'unfortunately'? The climate change agenda is as phoney as the 'PLANDEMIC'. Don't know if you know, but China's just pulled out of all the 'green agenda'. Every Western leader is a paid crook to the WEF.
@@fredflintstone1428 yep ,I think all this net zero is a load of old bollox too mateie but solar is free (once initial outlay )of cause , just I think the technology has a bit to go before it is able to keep up and be able to provide heat for a small place 24/7 in a off grid situation , with rising fuel costs people are looking into alternatives.
It is a nice but of kit and you done a fine job on the vid but i have to say you could build 3 or 4 complete van systems for the cost of the bluetti 🤔
Would i have one? Yes !
Would i buy one? No !
Nevertheless i enjoyed the video chap 👍 horses for courses snd all that, if you can't build a system DIY you have to expect it to cost more 👍
AND unlike the TV , no smoke or small explosions ( bit of a shame really ☹️ i like explosions) 😁
Keep watching you never know ya luck 😂👍
@@BigVanSmallWorld 🤞🤣🤣🤞
woow mel nice
Thank you 😊
Hi Mel great videos can u tell me what the minimum voltage required to run your diesel heater thnx paul
There 12v
Just on with changing over in our van , how did you connect the enhancer to the split charger, did you take the splitter out cable off and connect the pos. Enhancer cable and did you ground the enhancer neg. ? Keep good work up
Correct 👍
Put the oil in a little gas started on the first pull a little noisy but not bad !!
Glad to hear that 😂👍
Great video, thanks! Newbie here, and I'm personally wondering why one couldn't just charge the generator directly from the vehicle's female cigarette plug using the male cigarette charging cable which comes with the unit? The unit has a built-in DCDC charge controller and in my case I've installed a H.D. fused 10A car plug wired with 10GA leads (purchased from Dometic). Why the need for the $200 DC charging enhancer?
Maybe a bit late, you probably have the answer by now.
The cigarette plug that comes with the Bluetti plugs into the same input as the solar. The gray charging enhancer plugs into the same input as the black mains charger, which will let you charge from solar and the vehicle's 12 volt system at the same time.
That said, I think for the money the charging enhancer is of limited use. It's input is limited to 10 amps so that it does not blow the vehicle's cigarette lighter fuse.
I would like to see the enhancer have a switch for cigarette lighter mode limiting the amp draw or direct connect to the 12 volt battery mode, through a fuse of course. That way it could pull 30 or 40 amps and charge the Bluetti at the same power levels as the black mains charger.
Another great video Mel. That's a nice piece of kit, and good to see you put it through all the possible options.
So, where are your travels taking you this time? Have a great time!!
Thank you buddy
Would like to see how long you could cook for with the induction hob and maybe boiling a kettle. . The only way I'd consider buying one is if I could save on gas and 240v
Thank you I’ll make a quick demo of the induction hob boiling a kettle for you on Wednesday 👍
Nice one.. how about egg n chips with a nice cuppa tea .
No sugar but a drop of ketchup on the chips please.
I'm sure you said you'd do some cooking videos a while back. 😁
Great video !
So how long does it take to charge the unit from low to high with the engine running ?
Thank you it takes a long time to change using just the engine I can’t say how long because I’m using solar as well so they work together plus I’ve never actually run it down it’s been amazing good 👍
Hi Mel great video but expensive.
That`s a great unit, but you can save a lot of money buying a big standard LiFeP04 battery or a collection of smaller 100ah ones, whichever is the least expensive. I like knowing I can repair or upgrade a system if it`s my main power supply. I`d love to have a big power station though. I have two Bluetti EB70s I got mainly for emergency power for my freezer but I also use them to heat bathing water in emergencies, power my low wattage Dash griddles and rice cookers, and for my electric blanket when the Arctic pays us a visit.
I actually wouldn’t have this power pack if it wasn’t sponsored by Bluetti I’m experimenting with it to see if it will be ok in a camper van RV if it doesn’t work out I’ll let everyone know at the end of the year 👍🤓👍
@@BigVanSmallWorld Hook up about 1000 watts of solar to it and it will power everything.
Hi Mel want some quidance we have a factory motorhome and don’t want to mess with the factory wiring could I plug a Bluetti as an example to my van via shore power connector any drawback ??
I hope ypu don't mind me asking :) just one more question. you think this kind of setup would power my waterpump, fridge, lights, small tv and a laptop charger?
#Grateful 🙏 love you guys, thank you, #mahalo
Thank you 🙏
I'm surprised that Ecoflow doesn't have a 12v output as large output to match this. Interesting. 360w of 12v output is impressive. Honestly, this seems like a pretty cost effective and much EASIER way to wire up a fully capable power system... add extra batteries if you need, more solar if you want...
My thoughts exactly and I have to say I’m very happy with the results so far no issues at all 👍🤓👍
Gday Mel, much appreciate your vids, wanted you to know your link to 'Bluetti AC 200 Max' has no stock. Cheers...
Hay buddy thank you 🙏
Just found this channel. Don’t understand even half what you’re all talking about. Sounds amazing though . I’m about to convert a ford custom . And don’t want any complicated electrics or gas . So I’m going for a leisure battery and a delta solar generator with a panel. I have discovered a small heater rinses the delta , so I’m going to try and squeeze in a small wood burner . The great thing about the delta is it has lots of little socket things for phone iPad kettle etc and can itself be charged from the leisure battery or cigar lighter or panel . Anyone know a good pop top installer in the south east of England?
Absolutely brilliant Mel, your the first person I’ve seen who’s actually tried out the 30amp socket on the AC200 Max. Is it true that you have to switch between the 12v and 240v and can’t use them simultaneously?
Thank you I’m using solar and 12v to charge it if I did want to use 240 I would have to unplug the 12v 👍
Hi Craig
You can charge via 12v and 240 at the same time as I do all the time,
And you can use 12v and 240 at the same time from the Bluetti
Thanks, but I wasn’t talking about charging it.
I was sure I seen a review from someone saying that they had to switch between 12v and 240v outputs and I assumed from his review that they couldn’t be used at the same time. I’ve now seen Mel’s latest review which cleared it up. Thanks for your reply 👍
not sure about UK 240 but here in US u can run and charge both simultaneously !
Hi Mel, we are doing the same in our campervan build.
Are you still using the AC200MAX and whats your review on it having had it a while.
Any tips or advice appreciated.
Enjoying all your videos and your humour 😀
Lee
Yes I’m still using the AC200 max it’s perfect all but a little slow charging from alternater but hay that saves all the headache of having heavy duty cables 👍
Hey, great video. Can you tell me if your setup now can be charged via solar and alternator at the same time now? its 1 year old video how the setup hold in thge longer period of time?
Yes it can
@@BigVanSmallWorld and how much watt you were pumping while engine was on thru this enchacer ? Sorry for all the questions but I need to move in to a camper a they kicking me out of apartament I'm renting
Hi Mel, great video, does the split charge relay work with a smart alternator
No you will need Dc to Dc for smart altimeter
Hi Mel just been watching you video I'm interested in a bluetti AC200MAX and changing it from a DC-DO but I have a Renogy DC-DC with MPPT there is a ± & - connection's that to the battery to scenes to battery charger any ideas how I can do this?
I’m sorry i can’t help you with this as i dont know anything about Renogy I’m using the Bluetti charger enhancer along with a VSR
Given my basic knowledge of these, is it possible to just run from one of the 240V outputs to the Vans External EHU to power your vans circuits?
Yea I think so
Hi Mel looking into getting a AC200 for my van conversion, do you know if there is any battery drain over night with the AC outputs off but DC on via a fuse box, no load on fuse box hope that makes sense 😂
The dran is so small it’s hardly noticeable
I have an Anker 767 power station. Max input I've seen from my 160w solar panel has been a disappointing 92 Watts. I've also tried from my cigarette socket and that put in 105 Watts which was far more than I would have expected ..... can't have solar and alternator connected at the same time on my model as they use the same input socket.
The that’s why the Bluetti AC 200 Max is buy far the best option for a camper van than any others link in the description 👇👇
@@BigVanSmallWorld Thanks for your reply Mel. Had I known I would have probably have gone down the Blueetti route as charging from alternator and solar at same time would be a huge advantage. I hope your watchers read this and grasp the advantage when they make their choice. Sadly it was a simple thing that put me off and it was separate charging bricks etc., well now I know better.
How many watts is this bluetti?
Yes I could Google it, but I guess others might wonder too. 😉
Those cables should be 5mm cross sectional area.

Hi Mel, I am going to be picking up my very first off grid campervan this week, and after watching this great video I think it might be the way forward! I was looking at getting one of the ecoflow's, as they have great reviews and are on sale too! I was just going to use it as a backup if the leisure battery failed, but also to treat myself to some little luxuries like using an airfryer and a coffee machine!
The 12v/30amp connection is now leading me down the Bluetti route, which offers the opportunity of doing what you have done in this video. I don't think any of the other brands of power stations would enable you to do this, is that right?
One concern I have, is that I noticed that the fans from the Bluetti were pretty noisy! Was that only because it had a big load on it? My concern is that if I am living in it, for periods of time, the noise of the fans might drive me nuts!
One last question, I am not too much of a handyman, so I would probably get a professional to do what you did! It doesn't look a massive job, so am I right in thinking if I had a similar setup to you already, it would not cost a fortune to pay someone to do it?

The 12v 30 amp circuit is the win for me and yes it’s very easy to install and no it’s not noisy at all 👍🤓👍

Are you sure you need to switch it on? It lit up when you was plugging the cables in and you did not press the power button. I think it turns on automatically when it detects a charge.
Well spotted 👍
Thx for posting. Will I be able to plug the diesel heater directly into that? And, will the portable power pack run all night with the diesel heater running off and on?
Yes it will most definitely i have used it all winter long 👍🤓👍
@Mel's Big Van Small World next question sir, I spoke with the a company representative from Bluette after I sent my question to you. He said some diesel heaters (I'll actually be using a gas powered heater) are not compatible with the power pack. May I ask which diesel heater you use please. Thank you again for sharing your knowledge.
