      That reminded me of a saying. Translated it means: "The Devil knows more due to being old rather than for being the Devil". It means that older people have more experience and knowledge than younger people do, hence why the Devil holds more knowledge due to his age, not his status.

    Supernatural’s Death is the best kind of overpowered, ominous, neutral entity. The other horsemen wore their power on their sleeve and basically every villain loved to show just how strong they are and force people to fear them. Characters like Death are the best because they don’t need to show off, they don’t need to flex. They know how powerful they are and they somehow have less then zero fucks to give what you think of them. Yet they have an aura around them that clearly says “disrespect me and it will be that last mistake you’ll EVER make”

      @mrreyes5004 3 роки тому +115

      Indeed. Death is a cosmic force, and he _knows_ it and doesn't have to flaunt it. The only time that could come close to flexing is when he has Dean try to be Death (reaping people when their time has come) for a day, and even then it was to teach him a bigger lesson above that anyway. He rightfully points out that to him, mere mortals like Dean are dime-a-dozen bacteria that can't even comprehend the scope of Death's being and the power he wields.
      Then we get Billie and Betty who were just petty shite knock-offs :/

    I reckon one of the many things that make this the best character introduction in film/ Television is the way Death kills the man on his phone. All other villains in Supernatural kill in gruesome, intense ways involving claws, teeth, blades and magic, whereas when Death kills someone, he simply wills it to happen, and in an instant, without even touching the man, he dies.

      While I agree Death is awesome in this, I do think the man died because he bumped shoulders with him. I don't know if it was intentional or not, if it was that man's time to go or Death simply didn't like him. I would hope that the one responsible for the death of every living thing on the planet would have a better temperament or at the very least the wisdom and professionalism NOT to arbitrarily kill someone whose time hadn't come, even if they were a jerk. It's hard to say. But the reason I believe Death killed that man with his touch is because in some old folklore the Grim Reaper is said to be able to kill anyone simply by touching them, iirc. Heh, I suppose you could say that man felt the "cold hand of death" literally, or at least his cold shoulder. ;)

      War drove people blood crazy to murder their own children and neighbors with no remorse. Famine made people ravenous with hunger born from the soul itself. Pestilence spread plague and disease that wiped out an entire hospital and would only get worse. And death being present in Chicago was basically going to cause a massive disaster that would've killed millions and millions more after.

  • @marzipanmenthol

    some more of my favorite things I'm noticing on my bajillionth rewatch-- Death just walks among us. There really is no grand entrance, no drama or confidence being exuded by this unfathomably powerful being as it walks amongst humans. An elephant is not proud when it walks the savannah- it simply is. Death is not evil, cocky, or smug. He does not revel in his own presence amongst the pitiful humans. He simply _is_.
    another is the way he's already half out of frame by the time the guy dies. he just looks like anyone of the other background extras. even as he walks away, the camera doesn't seem to notice him. There is nothing in the framing that portrays him as unsettling, ominous, or outwardly powerful. yet again, he just _is_

    • @ChestRockwell24
      @ChestRockwell24 8 місяців тому

      I'd argue death is evil. At least in Supernatural. Okay so the guy accidentally makes contact with death and dies. Not necessarily his fault I guess.
      However, later in the episode Dean encounters Death in a pizza place and he has murdered every customer in the place. That isn't really a neutral act. He wasn't just doing his job unless you think coincidentally all those peoples time was up. He murdered them so he could eat pizza in peace and have a chat with Dean.

And also, I think it's fair that death killed him, considering that man didn't even care who he so happened to walk right into. And the way death came at him? Brushing off his essence. Symbolic and powerful. And the fact that Death is portrayed as a gentleman of sorts make him even more terrifying than the concept of the Grim Reaper. This is a popular misconception about Death though. He doesn't kill, he Reaps Souls. Hes the one who comes to collect your soul, not the reason for you dying in the first place. Well unless your rude and bump into him. In other stories its usually only the Souls that refuse to accept their Death that he comes for. Terry Pratchett does a great version of Death showing that hes more like a Guide

      @@Azazreal With all due respect, is there truly a difference between reaping and killing?
      One ends your life; the other takes your soul, ending your life.
      He is the one whom cuts the string; the reapers are the ones who guide your soul.

      @@colt9836 as a friend put it, "Death is an appointment everyone has and nobody knows the time"
      It's not so much "Death cuts the string". There's a reason it's called "Reaping", Death harvests when the "crop" (the soul of the person in question) is "ripe". It's why Death carries a scythe - a tool for harvesting crops - and not a sword

      @@villekuronen6242 Would the Archangel Gabriel be considered a cosmic force?
      If so then he was the first entity, but we didn't know because he was "Loki."
      If we want to be extremely technical about it, Michael was the *very* first power the Winchester faced because the two went back in time to stop Anna.

    What makes death so op is that he doesn't need the ring. He can give it to anyone and still retain full power.
