Awesome game, and Botvinnik's pick for best game of the 1972 match. I loved seeing it on TV in real time with Shelby Lyman.

This game is another example of Fischer grabbing a pawn and winning with it against a world champion.

To grab a pawn and lose a power piece must have significant purpose. And it forces the opponent to react accordingly and thus opens the gate.

The black rook was blocking the advance of the white king to the left of the board to support the passed pawn. Sacrificing the queen opened the gateway. Saying that, it takes some imagination to actually do that.

It was. Rh8 was actually a blunder; a3 was the correct move. Then white blunders by not capturing the misplayed Rook

This is an extremely complex position. It is not as simple as winning an exchange. Plus the players were in time trouble at that point and probably just trying to play practically instead of trying to calculate everything. If Spassky took the rook Fischer would have had excellent compensation.

It wins the exchange but then White's d-pawn is lost and Black has too many pawns.

No. Boris resigned, as no matter what he did, Bobby was going to get a queen.
If you look at the final position, even if Boris took the pawn with his bishop, the next move would have been Bobby's rook & check. This would force the white king away from the corner and the pawn would become a queen.
So, in the last position, Boris knew he was going to lose, and resigned.
      A truly magnificent game.
To me, Bobby was the greatest ever.

Fischer had too many pawns in good positions for that to be a trade that makes sense. Giving up that bishop also gives up all control of center board.
