I think that the biggest problem is that if a manufacturer made a vehicle with a smaller grill, it would be considered cheap, dinky, and slow by people who aren't very interested in cars as a whole. If, say, a mustang reverted to its old 90's style grill, it would just look slow and un-luxurious to probably both car people and non car people
I personally think that the Grill could also manipulate safety a little. Yes the Structure of the Vehicle is not influenced by it. However a giant grill could make the outer body of the bumper more fragile. Also: bigger costs for replacements

I was so glad to see that the alfa romeo tonale concept car hadn't developed into this direction, especially because the front end is the distinctive designfeature of the alfa romeo brand.
Lexus looks ok, but the new BMWs are awful. For 5 years we got an Audi Q7 which had an ENORMOUS grille, but it fitted the car pretty well. Big grilles look nice until they are well-designed. But some brands totally ignore part after "until".

I have to say I agree. The grille shoukd compliment the car not take over. Grilles are way too big and ugly. We need to kick it back to the days of muscle cars. Those are pretty.
I agree. I grille should only be as large as necessary. If you need a massive radiator, then a massive grille would make sense. But just for style? No thanks.
Car grilles are for keeping leaves out, but with big grilles, might as well not have grilles and make the entire thing visible.
For me the worst car trends are when the fog lamps are made to work as headlights ! Most cars from Korean manufacturers is an example!
In the last ten years I agree that the kidney grill are oversized I had a 2012 BMW X5 40d and it’s ok for the grills now I have a 2016 X5 30D and the grills are even larger

So, from an engineering standpoint, you're 100% wrong. The radiators are getting bigger. The popularity of the efficiency/power ratio of the turbo is to thank for that. Also, you didn't even mention the A/C condenser, trans coolers, power steering coolers, intercoolers, or any of the other quirky coolers included on some off-road or high performance vehicles. Many electric vehicles could actually use a bigger grill. Batteries get very hot in prolonged use. Just food for thought. 😉

Car manufacturers are putting more grille than brain and heart in their car designs
The people who disliked are the Chinese non-car guys.
The one car trend that needs to stop is the stupidly large production numbers of obscenely massive pickup trucks and SUVs, and yes, even those made by BMW.
Not everyone wants or needs an overcompensating box-on-wheels, and some of us would be fine with something the size of a something like a 1990s Ford Ranger or similar small truck.
I don't mind large grilles, as long as they fit the car styling-wise.
I don't mind the grilles apart if they're useless or just way too big(bmw), I hate fake vents

I would hate it if they disappeared entirely (even with electric cars, which don't need them), but yeah, some of them are getting ridiclulous, especially BMW, Toyota and Lexus.
In fact a car with bigger air ducts or air vents in general at the bottom of front facia of a car and smaller vents at the top of the front facia may look better in a way

Toyota don't want to use all of the vents on Supra from start because it would make the engine too cool, therefore difficult to reach operating temperature during daily use and easier to broke the engine. Look at Doug DeMuro Supra 2020 review, it shows the vent covers aren't integrated with the body and appear to be as removable pieces, therefore easier to remove than other vents with covers such as on Civics.

I don't want to see grills disappear, but I do want to see them get smaller. I even want them on Teslas as I feel they play a major role in defining a car and a grilless car looks incomplete to me

The grille on the X7 is so big because the car is huge as well. „Thestraightpipes“ photoshopped a smaller one on it and that looked really ridiculous.

The new Toyota Corollas have grilles that are way too big. Similar situation with Lexus, as discussed in the video. I think small grilles tend to be more timeless, as they hold more function and work with the body lines more than just being a design statement. I think of the Porsche 356-simple, smooth, timeless, and functional.

Saw my first BMW 7 series grilles the other day, and they looked God awful. I couldn't believe the size of them, especially since BMW have hitherto made appealing looking cars. I was reminded of a 1950's AEC bus. Although strangely, I always found a 50's AEC grille quite attractive. Of course a bus was the right installation for it, but a 2019 Beemer?.....
I don't like the big grills on Toyota/Lexus cars. When Toyota redesigned the Corolla for 2020, it made the grill bigger then the previous generation
I hate big grilles so damn much, I work at a Toyota dealership and the new avalons and Camry LEs and XLEs, and the Sienna's, they all have stupidly massive grilled that take up pretty much the entire front bumper and only about 1/16 of it actually allows air flow. It's so damn ugly, I don't know who thought (especially the Avalon) it looked good, because it doesn't, it's hideous
