If it wasn't that creaky with all the plastic around, I'd give it full thumbs up. At the moment it's more like "yeah, okay, decent entry to our market"
Mate thanks very much for your candid review. Yes, I'd like to know more about the mechanical side of this car such as the engine, the transmission (CVT, but who manufactured it), the brakes (many Chinese SUV have twin piston front calipers etc. I would also like you to do a real world fuel consumption test. Does this car require premium unleaded? I'd also like you to do a "hoist review" - run us through the build from beneath (suspension, brakes, exhaust, stabilisers etc.). Thank you!
There's a translated disassembly video of Omoda 5 on my channel - take a look at that one. I have no facilities to do something like that myself, plus the interest of the audience in Omoda 5 specifically currently doesn't justify further time investment from my side.
Totally agree. Duel clutch transmissions (dct) are horrible. There was 1 of these parked on my street this week. Looked good from the quick look I had. Agree it is a bit small. Not really a SUV. Its sort of Mazda CX3 sized. The 1 I saw was black with the red.
Yep, they look good especially from outside, Darren. Inside it's impressive (at first), but the longer you sit in it, the more cheap stuff your eye picks up.
They seem popular, wife said 5 others signed up in the time she was there. Bought through John Hughes Wangara WA. We originally were in there to test drive a second hand car and was shown these as well. Price, features and 7 year warranty sold us.
Hi mate the creaking plastic isn’t a good sign as that will only get worse with age, pretty worrying considering Chery’s history with build quality in the past
Congratulations on the new name! Appropriately title. This car was launch last month in Indonesia, and sold 500 unit in it's first two weeks. Not bad for a new brand. At first I would like to order the omoda 5, but after seeing the shown product it's rather too small for my needs. Instead I went to order the larger chery tiggo 8 pro with the 2.0 turbo. The engine is very high powered, I'm impressed after test drive. I sold my 4 years old Wuling Almaz (MG Hector) to Tiggo 8 pro which promised to be deliver in the next two weeks. Hopefully it will come to Australia as well.
On the screen, I wouldn't call it gimmicky, it is a glass panel in front of screens, even in the Mercedes EQS there are individual screens behind the full-length glass panel.
Hi, I’m about to get my MG essence but the dealer has offered the Omeda 5 similar to the MG to me. We’ve had a little look but due to it being new in Australia feel there will be some teething issues. What are your thoughts compared to the MG you and your wife own? Thank you. Love watching you very informative videos.
Hey thanks for your question, and it's hard to give an advice here as everyone's mileage varies a bit... My wife is quite happy with her ZST and we haven't had any issues with the car, owning it since late 2021. Omoda 5 looks good for the price, and I know for a fact that Chery is investing A LOT into the infrastructure of the brand here and hiring the best specialists (I spoke to people), but having said that we wouldn't know what real issues emerge with the car over time - it's just haven't been here long enough. But it has a massive warranty, so you should be covered either way... I think, go and test drive both cars before making a decision. There are a few more comparison videos coming from me, which might help you, unless you're right about to sign the papers anyway.
I am considering this car as one of my options. I have a question regarding the driver alert system (the one that beeps when you take your eyes off of the road). Alot of other reviews says it's bad and frustrating. Have you encountered that problem?
Hey I personally haven't driven the car long enough for that to happen, but will try and take it for a longer test drive and check back in. Try other cars within this price range in the meantime - MG ZST and Haval Jolion are two other pretty good and solid alternatives.
@Value Cars Australia I will definetly check those out. Also wanted to let you know I have been really like your videos. Very informative. I'm looking more towards a smaller SUV, if I don't end up getting the omoda 5 I might end up going for a 2020 toyota Chr. To be honest I am just waiting and hoping for australia to bring more models from Saic Motor, or other Chinese brands. For some reason the Chinese brands have been appealing more to me with thier tech and designs.
@@ValueCarsAU Chery Australia will officially launch Omoda 5 on 23 March. The first shipment would be 1000 according to their video on UA-cam one month ago . Probably it's already landed here.
It is an odd looking bird. I think I would stick with an MG as their dealers seem to be really trying to do the right thing and they are building up to critical mass.
Is the plastic noise as bad as in many older bmw? I'm currently driving 2017 bmw x1 and the plastic noises and reliability issues are driving me insane. I'm considering either these or 2018 civic turbo. The long warranty is very tempting though.
I honestly have no idea what an old BWM sounds like noise-wise, sorry! But any new vehicle with a long warranty sounds like it would be better than your old car. I'd try and sell it privately to get as much cash in hand as you can and then get something from the newcomer range - such as Omoda or MG or Haval - as new car is new car, you know...
Hey I'll take another (closer) look at the car soon, but overall I'll say to you honestly that out of what I've seen between GWM Haval, MG and now Chery, this so far looks the most "plastic-y", which might not mean anything when it comes to reliability of the mechanical/metal things - and we'd just need to wait and see what feedback from the owners is like at least a year from now, as they get a chance to drive around in their Omoda's.
No test drive video yet. Sound insulation was okay, nothing too bad (kinda like MG ZST, which is not great), but nothing incredible either (like Haval H6).
person who said it looks cheap n not reliable. do u guys know its only 20000--25000aus dollars in China. who cares about the problems ur guys mentioned.
Australian market is different from China my friend. Opinions are welcome but saying that mine is "unreliable" is a both short sighted and a sure bet to get banned. Keep it respectful.
The car need to learn your voice for a while. It's a good car, but I like my Haval H6 Ultra better. The power, versatility, comfort of front and back. The DCT is not a problem when you use to it.
You obviously understood what I was saying in English in this video and what James wrote. Please make an effort to reply in English too in future. Otherwise, welcome.
It is a small SUV with a small boot. The price is just too high for the quality and for a challenger brand. It also has a CVT which I don’t like. I’m not at all interested in this SUV.
Yes I thought about that Jay and it's a bit of dilemma to be honest with you mate. It started as MG and that's what brought most people here and now the channel is recognizable too, but I do explore different brands. Do you have good suggestions for an alternative name?

Sadly, I agree. Further video on this exact topic is coming next
There was zero creaking sound in my MG ZST Excite from the start until now 25,000km : )
Same with our ZST essence mate.
Tiggo 8 pro max plus will be a gem
I look forward to checking it out when it's here.

Yeah if you have a larger family, I'd say Omoda 5 is a no-go and Tiggo or MG Hector might be right for you
On the screen, I wouldn't call it gimmicky, it is a glass panel in front of screens, even in the Mercedes EQS there are individual screens behind the full-length glass panel.
Maybe not gimmicky, it's just how those screens are embedded in the panel when you look closer...

Place my order with a BX(base model). Was told delivery would be the end of this month.
1.6Tgdi better than 1.5T
Someone in the comments says they are getting theirs at the end of next week. Maybe they are a "Chery promoter", or maybe just got lucky, not sure

Good choice mate. Further video is coming where I'll clarify a few points a lot of people seem to have taken the wrong way! ;)
MG is shitty General Motors.
Chery is Chinese State-owned and partner of Jaguar Land Rover

Apparently lots of wind noise from the sunroof
I think they look better than the Haval brand , car reviews from Asian countries they say it’s a good car
I personally disagree, having taken a closer look at both, but it's not bad yeah
Fuel efficiency takes a big dump like v8 dump
Android Auto is wireless. Took one for a test drive works fine.
That's a plus.
1.6l version coming later much better power torque
Would be worth a test drive for sure to compare
Any idea when it will launch
