Its a simple thing gate exam is conducted for admission to iit, nit and other govt colleges for mtech admissions , but people misuse it by booking a seat in iit and then leaving it because they get selected in psu's, in my college in iit bombay an mtech student in power electronics left the seat after taking it because he wanted to join ntpc. If he had not taken the seat some other deserving student would have got that seat.
