  • When Finau switched to the new putter at The Open Championship, he also opted to switch back to using a conventional grip as opposed to left-hand low. He’d putted conventional at various points throughout his career, but with the new putter in the bag, he was able to make a setup tweak that changed everything.
Before switching to the Anser 2D, Finau tended to use an excessive amount of forward press at address. But the new putter has more offset which puts his hands forward at address without the use of the forward press.
He used to have a tendency to lean the shaft too far forward with his putter, which made aiming and producing the proper roll more difficult... The toe hang combined with the offset in the new putter has made it easier to start the ball on the correct line with the proper roll - that’s changed everything!
It seems now Finau feels much more comfortable putting conventional as he doesn’t need to use as much forward press at address.

Good eye on the conventional grip. Though ever since I went to the overlap I never looked back.
I've played around with the reverse over like tiger but I'm just not quite as right hand dominant as he is in my full stroke.
Though the right hand only putting drill and the two tee drill are both game changers

Good one... I imagine watching golf channel's pregame show from the time it comes on air is priceless for video clips to add to your Channel😉
I would know I watch it all the time. I still have DirecTV with the 4K package they've now thrown in for free and although it's still the most expensive it's well worth it I hope television never goes away. My dad is the same way.
218 Direct TV that one's been on the memorize list for almost two decades

@@RollYourRock yep. PGA Show is coming up in a few weeks too from Orlando. Lots of looks at all the new releases from all the major companies equipment wise and we'll finally get to see the new line of Scotty Cameron Newport 2's + others.
I believe Golf Channel's morning drive show is always live from the PGA show.
quite some elaborate booths there with giant simulators trackman training machines and gizmos even the world's largest circular driving range off site.
I hope Golf Channel hosts morning drive from the PGA show again this year.

@@RollYourRock are you conventional grip reverse overlap like tiger or what?
You may have a few like I do, what's your One Gamer putter you would go to the sink a one million-dollar putt?
For me definitely the Scotty Cameron Newport mil spec pro platinum or NP 2 Studio Stainless. Classics!

@@BuffaloNickel9 I've pretty much stayed with a reverse-overlap putting grip, but of course, I've tried them all. I'm more left hand dominant then Tiger. For me, one-handed practice strokes are done with my left hand. My biggest issue is taking it back too abruptly and a quick transition. In my case, left-hand only drills will smooth this out. When I'm actually putting, I try to keep my right hand grip pressure to a minimum. As far as putters go, I prefer ones without aiming lines all together or ones with lines no longer than a tour FaxDay (Ping My Day). I also love the traditional Ping Anser design. I have several early examples by Ping and other builders as well. I also love the Wilson 8802 design.

@@BuffaloNickel9 yeah, it starts next week Tuesday the 24th. I would go if it wasn't so far away. My son is a PGA teaching professional located in the Palm Springs area. Might just be time for some new sticks this year... 🙂
