  • How To Choose a Real Estate Career Path You Love // If you like the idea of working in commercial real estate, one of the biggest benefits of being in this industry is that there are so many paths for you to choose from, each of which can give you a very different experience on a day-to-day basis.
But even though this tends to be a net positive overall, the specific part of the industry that you choose to pursue is one of the most important decisions you'll have to make, and going down a path that's not the right fit can have a lot of negative consequences in both the short and the long term.
So to make sure you're going into the job search process well-informed and making an educated decision about what kinds of roles you want to pursue, in this video, we'll walk through the three main career paths within commercial real estate and where you might fit in best based on your skills, your interests, and the level of risk you're willing to take on.

I am commercial real Estate appraiser for a Bank and now pursuing the German equivalent to the MAI (member of the appraisal institute). Pretty happy so far with work life balance and salary.

Justin! I need your help! I am 22 and recently landed a great job as an associate at a real estate development company (thanks to my degree in finance, taking several of your courses, and watching like every single one of your youtube videos over the last 16 months). BUT at my job as I underwrite deals I need to create a set of comps for basically every input ie operations budget relative to EGI, trends, disposition comps using cap rate and value per unit, and market studies for the rents. Are there any data bases with this information (especially for the operations budget ratios). We do deals across the United States and I'm not sure how assumptions should change by market so they are in line. If you have any advise or would consider making a video I would be so grateful thanks!

Costar and Yardi Matrix are good for rent and sale comps. Normally you can only get expense comps from an appraiser.

So basically, the first path is for introverts, while the latter two are for extroverts?

Justin, have you considered the effect bitcoin will have on CRE if it absorbs most of the value currently tied up in the sector?
