Just hung an antique pickaroon to an antique hand-carved oak handle, they make a great pair! I LOVE what a help it is, for these purposes you've shown here! Haven't made my own yet, but have a PILE of old heads I can pick from! Next time you make one, I'd love to see you make a video of it! Thanks for sharing! People, don't get the Fiskars one, if you do you have to find a way to add weight on it's head, because it's too light, way too light so it doesn't work as the ones you see here! It may stick if you hit fast, but it's still 50/50 chance, that the log will fall off while you carry it. Good job sir, your's work perfect!!!
I received a Fiskars pikaroon for Christmas and have been using it. My experience has been amazing and I’m very happy with it. I’m surprised how well it holds wood on its beak to carry.

It looks like you really know how to shape a pickaroon. That first one is deadly keen! They're such a lovely tool. I love using them for moving bigger timber.
Hey nice reuse of older tools. This Friday I made myself two sappies out of 42mm 4mm wall tubing & for the hook I powered up my forge and used a worn out 20mm masonry bit... Not good for knives but just right for this project. Tested it on my hydraulic splitter while splitting wood on Saturday and would never want to be without it again. Simply perfect for picking up logs from the stack in a way that is easy on the back and avoiding getting wet gloves. The big one has an old axe handle and the short one, the broken handle from a plant pick, is just long enough to use again.
Those tools sound great, and I love your ingenuity. Can you explain to me the word, “sappies”? That’s a new one for me. If you’re at all inclined, I would love to see a picture of these tools. I think a lighter handle would be just fine. I just don’t like the feel of plastic I like wooden handles. I did make a small pick a room. I just didn’t show it on the video. The Fisker’s pick a roon is round I believe. The shape of the point is what is important. You can try it and see if it works for you. You can also modify the point. Good luck and have fun. Wish i had watched this video before i restored my pickaroon. I have actually been using mine more than I thought I would. Very handy tool.
