Free? We are all individuals, within the collective. Individualism does not build, maintain or support human civilization. Individuals are powerless against a collective. Case in point: Our present (global) situation, being imposed by a collective of powerful individuals.
Of course she still experiences racism on an everyday basis. Asking the question demonstrates that you understand this. There a thousand ways for others to recognize racialized encounters, since everyone is rigged up to play along, while pretending nothing is happening. I believe this is why mass hysteria, cognitive dissonance, depression, anxiety and other disorders are running rampant in our society.

She is dead on about how deleterious racism is, now corrosive it is to one's soul/spirit. Where she is possibly dead wrong is how morally superior she always felt about herself compared to racists. Is that the only factor to conclude in being morally superior? Spiritually speaking, at least from a Christian foundation, we all are morally inferior to God, and we ALL have fallen short of Him in holiness. More specifically, for her to claim that "she" was morally superior sounds more like vanity, something of self-righteousness and offensive to God. If she had said that being an Equal with Humanity was morally superior to Racism, then I wouldn't have posted this critique. Another point: Being morally more mature in one area compared to another human being doesn't prove overall maturity. Anyone can be proficient and mature in areas of life and character, yet be quite immature or stunted in other areas of, say, family life, love, truth-telling, humility, etc.

1) I don't think European immigrants became Americans by adopting "whiteness", where "whiteness" is understood as a racist identity. They became Americans learning English and becoming citizens of the Republic. Many of them already where or became racists in America, but not all of them. 2) She addresses whites like all whites have a problem to solve which is racism. Sorry but all whites aren't racist and I find it kind of racist to address all whites in this way. She should address racists, not whites. Obviously, white racists are more numerous in America, because whites are more numerous, and because of a cultural legacy that lingers on. But white racists have been decreasing while anti-white racism has been increasing. 3) We ALL have a problem with racism, whatever the "race" and whether or not we are racists, because society has this problem which concerns us all.
If you can only be tall because somebody is on their knees, then you have a serious problem.
