  • Where to take shelter if a nuclear war breaks out? Switzerland is the best candidate to protect as many people as possible from an atomic fallout, but is it really as indestructible as you might think? Let's talk about it.

    I have family in Switzerland and the nuclear shelter in my granduncle's house was always a highlight for me as a kid. He used it as a pantry and you woudnt recognize it, if there would not be the giant steal door and the vent exhaust in the garden. My uncle and aunt who live in a modern appartment in Zürich, have an underground parking garage which would be converted to a shelter.

    I am a Swiss and I don't think that this is a good system against nuclear fallout. Of corse we store our long-life food and water in our bunker and we could life in there for a few weeks. But what do we do afterwards?
    Our best protection was our neutrality - which we gave up bit by bit in the last years and now finaly buried it with our one-sided actions against Russia. Today, we are as vulnerable as anyone else.

      Exactly. Yeah you could have a bunker for each person in Switzerland, and you can even say that those bunkers can keep a person a live inside for 10 years. But then what? Supplies aren’t infinite. Neither will electricity or clean air.
      Yes, you survive nukes going off in Europe, but what now? Are you gonna dare drink radioactive water? Can you even leave your bunker with proper gear? You can’t stay in Europe after Nuclear War. Everything is contaminated and nothing is usable. Maybe scavenge some bottled water and canned food, but where will you find gas masks to last a long sea voyage to clean air?
      Also, whether Switzerland is neutral or not, during Nuclear War, all of that goes out the window, given Switzerland’s geographic location. France, Germany, Australia etc will all get hit by nukes and rest assure that whether by accident or purposefully, some nukes will fall in Switzerland, say some air defense intercept a warhead and cause it to crash into Swiss territory. IT will happen.
      This video could not be more wrong and misleading. You could offer me a ticket to go take cover from nukes in Switzerland, you can keep it. I will take my chances in South America. I am going nowhere near North America, Asia or Europe.

      I'm thinking exactly the same..
      what do you eat when everything is radiated?
      Its horribly sad that we must think about such non sense ideas.
      If you think about the amount of money we invested into protecting us from humans stupidity.. we could solve all kinds of other problems.,

    Two weeks won't be long enough for the longest lasting radioactive isotopes, but it is the broadly accepted window during which the worst of the radiation exposure would happen before the short half life of much of the radioactive material would make the surface survivable again, except in places where the wind and rain have deposited higher concentrations of remaining fallout. Still going to leave the bunker to a wasteland, but the two week intended timespan has a basis in reality.

      @spicysaucexl1594 Рік тому

      @Goodbye why not? You'd be in isolation. The countries in the northern hemisphere would be the ones taking and giving the most hits. New Zealand, Australia, Tasmania, and the polinesian islands would be the best bet as long as they remain neutral but once resources from other countries run dry, theyd seek it from the countries listed above. Genuinely curious why you don't think otherwise.

      I agree with you on South America, but New Zealand & Australia??? lol are you kidding, during a theoretical WW3 scenario, NZ & AU will be China’s top nuclear targets. China is not going to let NATO set up a military hub for launching military incursions into China from the British colonies of New Zealand & Australia.
      It’s laughable when ever I always see people listing Switzerland, New Zealand & or Australia as the best places to go to survive WW3. Good luck I guess. 😂

      New Zealand and Australia? Lol because a little enemy of NATO called China doesn’t exists right? It’s just so funny how people think that New Zealand or Australia is safe during WW3 when they are literally within China’s backyard. Do you think that China is gonna let NATO allies NZ & AU simply let them station troops and amass an invasion force? Of course not.
      NZ & AU are gonna be the first few countries China will Nuke after hitting Japan & South Korea.

    I’m sorry, but you couldn’t be more wrong. The safest country during Nuclear War is the country that avoids nukes going off on it or within its vicinity.
    Saying that Switzerland is the safest country in case of Nuclear War is akin to saying that during trench warfare, no man’s land is the safest place to be. Or incase of a cafeteria food fight, being hidden under the tables in the middle of the cafeteria is the safest place to be. 🤦‍♂️
    Switzerland is literally in the middle of ground zero for Nuclear War in Europe. During WW2, Switzerland didn’t get invaded because it was collaborating with Nazi Germany, otherwise, the country would of ended up like Belgium or Holland.
    No thanks, wouldn’t want to be breathing radioactive air or drinking radioactive water. And let’s not start with the graveyard of humans and lack of electrical communication. Better off being in the middle of the Sahara than in Switzerland during or after Nuclear War.
    Bunkers can only sustain people for no more than 2 years at most. Even if they can survive 10 years, everything around the place would be poisonous. It’s laughable to even think of Switzerland. Go ahead, take my Swiss FallOut pass. And no, British (NATO) Commonwealth New Zealand or Australia aren’t safe from Chinese Nukes. During WW3, we all know who is gonna be allied with who.
    You wanna survive Nuclear War? Go down to South America, ironically, a very hotspot for the losers of WW2. By all means avoid North America, Asia, Europe and Norther Africa.

      There actually plans for the rich to relocate to Australia and New Zealand and hole up in private bunkers there, and then simply "grab the world" after everyone else dies from starvation and irradiation. The only trouble is - their foe has 18000 km ranged delivery vehicles that will either blast or bury their bunkers under mounds of rabble + create unbearable intensity of surface radiation for 5+ years. This is the MAIN reason that WW3 has not started, as of yet.

  • @morzh1978
    @morzh1978 Рік тому +3

    The "public bunker" concept is mostly impractical. It only makes sense if it is your neighbor is to get nuked, and you only suffer fallout as a collateral damage. But Switzerland is nowhere neutral, it is full US vassal and, as such, and also in retaliation for seizure of foreign assets, would get at least a few 800kT warheads. Remember: the enemy targets your populace for entire annihilation, and can ensure that by encapsulating his even tactical grade warheads into cobalt shells. Resulting in at least 5 years of surface radiation in such intensity that even trees and grasses would cease to grow. How do you stockpile food and supply clean water for FIVE YEARS, at least? Only tiny fraction of the populace can actually arrange that.

    It’s amazing what a nation can accomplish when there’s a common goal & actually put the people’s money where their mouths are. Instead of using it for personal gain and corruption.
    I know not everyone is a fan of the bunkers but also back in the day was a different time and it’s completely understandable why they pushed to build so many bunkers.
    Obviously now a days millennials & Gen-Z for the most part don’t have the will to live past any apocalyptic event since we’ve seen the horrors of fictional renditions through Books, TV, Movies, Games, etc. And legit what’s the point- not worth it anyone 😂🤷🏻‍♂️
