One very innovative idea RY and I've never seen this before. I too have a Weber charcoal starter. Add a small baffle plate between the coals and the grill and you'd have.........an indirect mini barrel smoker perhaps? Thanks for sharing your grilling/smoking ideas RY. Cheers!
When I was a kid, we only used a Charcoal BBQ. When we finished cooking we picked out the larger colas and dumped them into a bucket of water. After we put them out on a rock to dry in the sun. By the next weekend they were good for a second go. Ontario Canada.
We bought two and I'm getting a third one so we can bunch them together and balance our pots if need be Also, if you want to cook with just one it's very handy . We keep them to cook during power outages; which happens to often bc of disasters here in N. Ms. AL. & TN. area ❄️⚡🌪️🌪️
My wife, my granddaughter and I have cooked hot dogs on a charcoal starter many times. We use wooden shish kabob sticks. After we cook we can burn the sticks. We dig a little hole and bury the remaining charcoal, we rinse the starter in the water and and wrap it in a garbage bag for next time. Very easy and always fun!
Great ideas, hadn't thought of that before. Here's another idea for the "grilling basket, just drop in 4 roofing nails in each corner and it will keep the basket from shifting much and the basket can still be used as usual.
This is genius. Thanks for sharing. I recently discovered you can also use an "adjustable roasting rack" that will fit snuggly over the chimney starter if you don't have a dremel.
Did this tonight with some chicken breast for my dog who I am desperately trying to get to eat. Nice cause he enjoyed laying outside for a little bit while I cooked and he ate more than he has in a week. (He is basically in hospice care so he gets anything he wants like the good boy he is)
If you don't have charcoal, pick up some wood that's lying around. Use some dry leaves or pine needles underneath to get a fire started. It's an easy thing to grill on out in the woods. Just find a flat rock and set it on it.
General dollar has little grill baskets that are just the right size. The seasonal items should be stocked soon. They also carry a grilling basket with a longer handle that snaps together that holds about 4 burger patties. So easy to flip the basket and not have to use a fork or spatula.
hi: how about this: I have a iron cast iron skillet and I want to make it extremely hot. Isn't the chimney better at concentrating all that heat? How about grapeseed oil or avocado oil with a high smoke point and the cast iron skillet and the chimney? Wont that be the best set up for high heat cooking?
Great set up i have the same type but i put extra grating on the bottom so as not to waste hot coals not burning completely .this solved that works perfect now😀cheers
So funny, I've always looked at that Chimney which I never use thinking, can I put my Alcohol Stove in there and make a grill or a hobo stove? 🤔 Great idea
" Try putting a stainless steel steamer insert ( opens like a flower) in the chimney and using food grade wood pellets for hot, controlled burn. The steamer reduces airflow for better fuel economy. "
@@Iambriangregory ok, that was long ago so had to recheck. Yea, many for various reasons have taken the lower grate out and turned it over. So instead of the cone pointing up, it's now pointing down. Not really that difficult. I prefer it that way and many others did also. But some not. So just try it and see. Hope this explains it.

It is like a little pit barrel cooker. You’re right!

please give this man a gold medal!
I'll settle for Bronze :)
He'll just find a way to grill on it.

"That's gonna work grate" lol. That's a grate idea.

That's the way to treat him :)
I’ve got a little hospice pup too. I cook for her every night.

Yaay! I just cook for myself so don’t want to buy a grill. This will be perfect! Thank you so much. 🙏
Very helpful. Thank you.
Great tip on using dremel tool to cut groves so grill won't slide.
Thanks! It keeps me from dumping hot dogs and steaks all the time :)
Wow great idea! I have one, never thought of cooking on it.
I think the beautiful birdsong made the video. Natures own soundtrack.
" Instead of cutting the grill grate, why not just push a couple nails or skewers into a few perimeter holes from the top, to keep it from sliding?"
Good stuff! Thanks for sharing.
Great idea. So much fun to see what you are going to do next
Holy cow this is brilliant.
simple and smart will do this thank you
Looking good and yes it does work with your wood as well
Great. Thanks!
Excellent! Would inverting the chimney and using the smaller end work better, I wonder?
It sure gets the heat closer to the food 👍
Nice job !
Simple and sweet dogs on a bun. YUM!
They were good. And the bird got NONE! :)
LOL!
Enjoyed the mocking bird furnishing the musical to your great how to video. I truly did!!!
He was a hoot. Literally :)
I have tried putting wood in chimney with charcoal ... it burns the wood to fire pretty easily. We used it one winter when sitting outside .

Where do you put the coals so they don't start a fire

@@nikitacolon1622 thank you for your feedback
I discovered this today and immediately went to search to see if anyone else was doing it.
if you fill it up higher it can also be used as a makeshift foundry
awesome, never thought about that.
It's a pretty nifty use for the chimney :)

Hey Ry, Ive used Hickory in with the Chimney and it works well,
Love the hickory :)
My favorite is Mesquite, But man love the vids and you are a reason i Purchased the Highland this weekend. definitely a subscriber
Replied with my non channel account. LOL. No, but I love to mix Hickory and Mesquite, especially with cuts of beef like chuck roast :)
If I was a single guy, I'd probably be doing that a lot. lol Cooks a mean dog. All ya need. Thanks Ry
Great video

Nice !
Perfect 👌🏾
You've invented a new type of grill....
The Chibachi
I'm not the first...but I like it!
Hurry up and trademark the name. I give you full rights.
Neat!
Flip the chimney over to use fewer briquets.
You can definitely do that :)
Im doing this tomorrow .perfect set up .thanks a bunch
awesome
I also use my charcoal chimney to cook burgers and blade steaks.
It's handy for those smaller meals :)
Home Korean BBQ on the chimney? Mmmmm amazing cuts of meat at the Asian markets.
That sounds good to me :)
You can just take the coal wire grate and turn it upside down. Now coals stay in the middle. Cook like this to often.
Your idea might be good but you didn't seem to explain it clearly just what do you mean if you care to share in detail

This is gonna be “grate” Hahaha
Shout-out to the "🐦"
Lol...bird is going to town
Good idea with the charcoal chimney but one could also just use a small grill like the weber smokey joe
Absolutely :)
Or a SS colander.
Why not just flip the grate instead of cutting anything. Isn’t the other side flat
You should've grilled that noisy 🐦 too.
Looks burnt to me
You can cook it less.
Yes I agree , hope I didn't offend
