I have this unit and I bought it 2021 at our local SAVERS thrift store for $15.
Absolutely a workhorse. I use it for moldy tapes and get solid playback.
Finally ate a tape and I’m just about to cart it off to my guy in Taunton, MA for a refurb.
Just wondering, any south of Boston techs, just in case my guy retires …?
I still have mine. I bought it brand new for $300 back in 1996 I think it was. Still works.
That's $597.81 in today's money! Crazy huh
you need adjust 4:3 Accept Ratio picture settings
I picked up this model from a Goodwill for $4.99 today. Its going to make my digital transfers better i hope
This is the lowest budget in the S-VHS family. The best S-VHS is the HR-S7600AM, The only model ever made that can playback and record native PAL and NTSC without conversion, built in line TBC/DNR, auto tape bias and many more.
You mean that model is region free?
@@supermariof0521 Not quite, It doesn’t playback SECAM in colors but very few countries adopted the French SECAM.
@@Capturing-Memories I see.
@@supermariof0521 There are no region restrictions as such for VHS, there were only different video standards in different countries(mostly to match broadcast tv). Here(& presumably in many other PAL countries) VCRs & TVs(particularly) that also supported NTSC & SECAM were quite common by the 90s.
Hi there, do you know if this model can record single frames, like if you imagine you wanted to do stop motion animation and capture one frame at a time. then of course play back at regular speed.
Got couple of them. They are ok but not the best. They lack TBC. Its not a best unit but big improvement over regular VHS. I love SVHS and still use this format till today.
Just got one from goodwill and it records but the playback from that recording is in black and white and the picture split in half ..
But it plays pre-recorded movies just fine. It seems the recording feature or hardware is corrupt.
Hello can you help me out? I have jvc p61k video cassette it has only yellow and white output thet i connect it to a tv that red yellow white component but no signal at all but the vhs player working
My car doesn't work can anybody help me out?
I'm bidding on a HR-S3902U, it has S video inputs and outputs
S-VHS players should be equipped with S-video input/output interface plus I2C/CAN for giving and taking remote control signals from TV and other equipment. In other way what's the difference from VHS? In the end, new generation of such players should save digital data in QAM256/QAM1024 format at high bitrate directly or through codecs like HEVC, HE-AAC2/AC-4.
Sir I need this VCR for save my memories
💞💞💞💞👌👌👍👍
Best S-VHS player is the Panasonic NV-V8000 JVC videos were absolutely diabolical
Yea and diabolically $$$$
Panasonic products WERE ALWAYS SUPERIOR TO JVC's GARBAGE!
that svhs vcr is from late 97 into 98
That's cool
I have this one, but mine also has s-video inputs on front and back.
Yeah that's the HR-S3902U
I sent an offer for one on ebay brand new in box for 200$
S-VHS has ~420 lines where standard dvd is 480 lines so they are very close.
240*
Not the best. There are many several higher end models from JVC alone.
The best vhs hi fi player/ recorder is one that has a headphone jack and adjustable audio meters.
I had one of these. TBH, I wasn't very impressed with it. The quality might have been better than standard VHS but it wasn't enough to really get me excited. I didn't get mine until close to the end of VHS. I think they missed the opportunity to make anything meaningful of SVHS. VHS was always a lacking format and SVHS existed long before the end of VHS was in sight. They could have sold SVHS in the early 90s but they utterly failed to sell it to anyone other than maybe very high end users.
By the time these types of decks started showing up where most people bought their electronics (Like Best Buy in the US) VHS was on the way out with DVD being right around the corner. This unit had some nice features but I had two other VHS VCRs at the time and I mostly used them even though they were standard VHS.
This is not the best SVHS machines, for someone who use to repair these things, this is one of there standard model range. Repair many of these and they are just standard, not bad but not a high range model.
Find a vcr that has V U meters and a headphone jack. This one has neither!
Jvc sr-s 388.Купил и там и твс и днр фильтры.Там и регуляторы уровней звука и наушники.
I WISH I could EVEN "like" ANY JVC "creation"! HOWEVER, I HAVE EXPERIENCED TOO MANY OF THESE MORPHODITE "products"!
With all due respect, this is a great S-VHS machine, but nowhere near the best. It's not even close.
I don't think that's what he meant or said, at least twice he said "This is middle of the road, not the best but not the worst."
Title might be a little click-baity if you want to nitpick, but I don't think anyone watching would leave thinking "OMG THE HR-3500U IS THE BEST S-VHS DECK EVER MADE!"
@Techrewinds On behalf of casual VHS guys (and gals) considering something along these lines (we know it's not the best, but want to make an informed choice and get the max out of a smaller investment), thanks for making the video!
@@speedingpenguin
In the title it says "best". I refurbish and resell VCRs as my business across all brands and models from low to hi. I simply said what I said based on the title of the video.
@@NunYa953 Indeed! Model HR-S7600u was a better machine, due to the Time Base Corrector and digital noise reduction, for one thing. That's what I have ;-)
@@ez2me2009
Also a good machine, but again, there are much better machines. I don't use a VCR much anymore, but I refurbish and repair them for a living.
@@NunYa953 If you have a link where we could buy your refurbished vcr, I would be happy to get it. Maybe PM me ?
i have similar model. hear a slight buzz sound. sucks
