What’s Behind Germany’s Far-Right AfD Win?

  • It's the biggest far right win since WWII- but what does it really mean for Germany? Though unlikely to form a government, the AfD's historic win in the state of Thuringin shows the far right is a political force to be reckoned with. But what's driving Germans to vote for the extremes that brought them so much trauma in the past?

In Europe, there's a growing sense of neglect towards the younger generation. They face lower salaries, longer work hours, and increased responsibilities while witnessing a surge in billionaires, particularly in countries like Germany.
The housing market adds to their woes, as property prices soar, making it difficult to afford homes, let alone start families. To compensate, cheap labor from abroad is often favored, leading to frustration among the youth, who feel betrayed.
People aren't inherently racist, but this frustration arises when governments prioritize external labor over addressing domestic issues. It's high time politicians acknowledge and tackle these pressing concerns rather than resorting to distractions. The younger generation deserves meaningful change.

instead of singling out the younger generation, i think it's more those who are on the lower income brackets (which includes the younger generation) that are being ignored/silenced in france, england, germany and usa.

@@ZHaunDK If there were an option for a blank vote to serve as a form of protest, and if over 50% of voters chose it, leading to the dissolution of power and political parties, I believe the far-right movement might never have started. But this would never happen because politicians thrive on maintaining their power, and the people who control them wouldn't know how to handle such volatility in the public's will.

@@josepedrosantiagosilva9625 i'm not convinced politicians care how few votes they get, as long as it's more than the competition. i'm also convinced the label "far-right" is kinda of a fear mongering label. extremists are easy to idenify when they speak, and dont let others tell you who is extremists or not.

You don't even know what a colony is. Any american beating/killing us germans like it happened to the black populations in africa or imported to the US?
In 30 years I never even saw an american soldier.
BTW I can go whereever I please, I was in US as well.
And regarding english in schools: it was common for centurys to learn foreign languages. French was franca lingua even centuarys prior to napoleon, spanish is common, latin and old greek were common previously. It's regarded a sign of high education like many other things like geography and art. And it has more to do because of nearby england, its former empire and it's ongoing importance in international trade - which is highly important for germany. Especially in europe with it's fragmented languages you need some common denominator. And english is easy to learn for germans, it has so much commonality unlike scandinavian, french, italian and slavic languages

Most people love it? That's definitely wrong! Nearly 33% of the voters in the small Federal State of
Thuringia voted for the far right party AfD. They got fewer votes in other Federal States so far. About 67% of voters don't want an extremely right (cofirmed by courts!) MP, Björn Höcke, in Thuringia!
