I think the grip change through the years between bodybuilders and power lifters is interesting. If you go back to Arnold Schwarzenegger and lee haney they both used a wider grip . Arnold was index finger on the rings but lee haney at 5"11 used used the middle finger on the rings. But all of these modern day power lifters use the pinky on the rings. Mostly because they claim its less risk for injuries. But ive seem guys like larry and eddi hall both get pec and triceps injuries. I've been trying to use the pinky on the rings technique but it always fails me . im going back to what has always worked for me and that's the haney grip. The rules say you can't place your hands wider than the the rings. Wich means the choice to put the either the index or the punky on the rings is legal and up to the lifter.

Well, there are more reasons to go to the gym than to want to look good in a G-string on stage. There's actually this thing called power-lifting where the goal is to lift as much weight as possible in the bench squat and the dead-lift. In this case, the bench press. As long as the bar touches your chest (no bounce in comp) and you extend to full lockout then its a legal lift. As long as you follow those rules (and a few others) you're allowed to twist and turn whichever way you please if it helps you lift more. at the end of the day its a performance sport not a beauty contest. Think about it like football, the objective is to get the ball into the end zone. We don't really give a fuck how you get it into the end zone, just get the sum bitch into the end zone!
