Why is it that many places in the sylhet division getting repeatedly flooded every year..?? The main reason is that that rivers that carry the rain waters have silted up badly and filled in over the years and neither the local authorities or the central govt has done anything to dredge and deepen the rivers. The Entire Surma and the Kushiara river needs to dredged and deepened urgently govt to prevent the repeated flooding that we are witnessing every year for a number of years now. The main reason for the repeated flooding is that Surma and Kushiara river has silted up and lost their water carrying capacity causing water to spread across its banks into the surrounding areas causing flooding and waterlogging in the area. The repeated flooding is causing extensive damage to properties and crops aawell as immense suffering to peoples lives. This is situation is preventable and the flooding can be greatly reduced if the govt, the environment agency, water development authority worked together todeepen/dredge the Surma and Kushiara river channels. Only by regular dredging and maintaining sufficient depths within the rivers the flood waters can be can be controlled and dispersed away the area eventually towards to sea. All rivers Bangladesh have silted up and require regular urgent dredging. The local water plus water from upstream India needs to channed away from the area and if rivers have filled up with siltation and lost their water carrying capacities then the flooding and waterlogging will get even worse every year. Please start dredging the rivers now. The Sylhet Mayor and relevant Govt agencies need to look into rivet dredging issue urgently. .!!
