Billy Joe was a cool old guy. I recorded him with his son Eddie and his band playing for most of the summer of '89. I had been doing a ate session the night before so I showed up to the studio wearing a t-shirt and shorts and before I had put on my shoes. Billy Joe said, "Hell, I like an engineer that doesn't wear shoes! I'm not wearing shoes either!" We had a blast. I probably still have the masters to those recording somewhere, too.
I laughed when he said “You tell Waylon to stick this up his ass” hilarious encounter with 2 legends that are no longer with us RIP Billy Joe and Waylon
I was telling my dad and uncle about this crazy country musician, Billy Joe Shaver a couple weeks ago while we were on vacation together. That night their close high school buddy called to tell them his daughter had passed away from cancer. He got to talking about her life and how, when she was younger she featured in a Billy Joe Shaver music video. Weird serendipity. Unfortunately, I didn't catch the song.
I saw Waylon in Lexington, Ky. at a bar in about '89. Front table right in front of him. When the show was over, I stood up and tried to hand Waylon an autograph book to sign. He took it, and handed it back, unsigned. I thought, "What an asshole". Then, I read in the paper that he had undergone QUADRUPLE bypass heart surgery the next day! I figured hell, he was about to die up there and probably did'nt feel like signing autographs so I cut him some slack!
My understanding was the hundred dollar bill incident occurred when Billy had not yet got his foot in the door (figuratively speaking), and he was still trying to get on Waylon's radar screen and pitch him his songs. But either way, it's a good story. 🙂
No actually he was healing a rooster and I was getting on his nerves and he told me get around some were and the part about the dozen songs was about 8 hatch sweater roosters that some Mexicans had that couldn't win a fight with and they was going to let me have em but it was end of the season he was already done for that year and me being me with my wonderful ideas knew we could bring them back the next week and do something long story Short he finally gave in and we took em came back and won true story every word of it
These are probably the greatest short animated skits I have ever seen.😆
