Mefisto is short for Mefistofeles, one of the devils of Polish legends. And the "music" is called Disco Polo and no - I don't secretly like it :D More details below: The legend of Jan Twardowski is a piece of Polish folklore that tells the story of a man who made a pact with the devil. According to the legend, Jan Twardowski was a nobleman and a sorcerer who desired to gain knowledge and power through magic. To achieve this, he made a deal with the devil (often depicted as Rokita). In exchange for his abilities, he would give his soul to the devil after a certain period. However, Twardowski decided to trick the devil by adding a clause to the agreement that his soul would only be taken if they met in Rome - assuming he would never go there. After many years, having gained vast knowledge and power, the devil tried to cunningly catch Twardowski. In a tavern that Twardowski entered, the devil placed a sign reading "Rome" and attempted to claim the sorcerer's soul. In desperation, Twardowski used a mirror (which granted him certain powers) to summon the Virgin Mary, who saved him from the devil. But in return, he had to leave Earth. As a result, he was sent to the Moon, where, according to legend, he remains trapped forever. The tale of Twardowski is often likened to the German story of Faust, who also made a pact with the devil. In both tales, the protagonist tries to deceive the devil but ultimately pays a price for his actions. Mephistopheles, as a distinct character, is most famously known from Johann Wolfgang von Goethe's drama "Faust," but his origins trace back to earlier literary works and legends. Literary Works: Before Goethe's "Faust," the character of Mephistopheles appears in various versions of the Faust story that circulated in Europe from the 16th century. One of the earliest recorded sources is a German book from 1587 titled "Historia von D. Johann Fausten," which tells of the legendary magician and his dealings with the devil. Etymology: The name "Mephistopheles" itself is shrouded in mystery, and its exact origin is uncertain. One theory suggests it derives from the Greek word "Mephistopheles," meaning "not a lover of light," referring to his devilish nature. Theology: While Mephistopheles per se doesn't appear in the Bible, some suggest that the character might have been inspired by traditional Christian depictions of Satan or other demons. Disco Polo is a music genre originating from Poland. Its roots date back to the 1980s and 1990s. Here are some key points about the origins of Disco Polo: Inspirations: Disco Polo drew inspirations from Western disco music and traditional Polish folk tunes. It is characterized by simple, catchy melodies and lyrics, often revolving around love, fun, and everyday life. Evolution: In the 1990s, the genre became incredibly popular in Poland, especially among the youth and in rural areas. Many Disco Polo bands began to appear on television and radio, and their songs became staples at weddings, fairs, and other events. Television: TV shows like "Disco Relax" and "Galaktyka" played a significant role in popularizing the genre nationwide. Criticism: Despite its popularity, Disco Polo was often criticized by mainstream media and the musical elite for its simplicity and lack of "artistic depth." However, its authenticity and straightforwardness attracted a vast fanbase.
The conflict was a bit deeper... music elites criticized DP because they didn't get $$$, music labels, musicians, the whole music industry didn't get this cake etc... at first they said it was hackwork with no future(they didn't see the money that was in it, so they laughed from DP artist and their hard start), and when it turned out that there is money the conflict/black campaign has begun because it was to late to join this branch entertainment -.-' + it was a period of financial problems for the artistic "elites" (hołdysowe tantiemy etc) when DP was making money at the same time... destroy something because you have nothing from it < like always in PL (bo somsiad ma lepiej to mu bruździć)
@@freuer007 also... Music videos to covers (new rendition) of the songs included in films are telling (without dialog) additional stories about characters. It is very woth checking them out.

Robbb on every next your movie on YT you speekin better and better in Polish :) "Dzien dobry panowie i panie" meeeen big Respect for you. You almost Polish hihihi. Nice Job Mate
9:32 yes, that's a glagolitic letter dobro lol Few explanations: Mephisto comes from Mephistopheles which is a name of the devil in Mickiewicz's version of this tale (in that version Twardowski 'outsmarts' the devil by adding a clause that states his soul is only taken when they meet in Rome, a place that Twardowski has no intention to go to, but one day he visits a Tavern called Rome, allowing Mephisto to act) Also in most versions of the legend, Twardowski escapes to the moon on a giant rooster to avoid honoring the deal Also also, the story in The Witcher 3 Hearts of Stone is based on that legend - Olgierd is a stand-In for Twardowski and Gaunter ODimm is a stand-In for Mephisto. Also also also, the actor who plays Twardowski here, Robert Więckiewicz is one of the top actors in Poland actually, he's in a lot of good movies like In Darkness, The Dark House or Clergy
9:41 What is that I think of now: two balls and a cannon? It's scissors . Also: - Popular in Poland version of legend ens up in Twardowsky escaping from the devil to the moon. - Mefisto- Mephistopheles- devil in Faust (Goethe) and Master and Margot (Bułhakow), in some minor books, also popular in Poland lately. I think he was introduced to the legend by Mickiewicz "Pani Twardowska" The thing is he was German. In previous versions it was Boruta or Rokita (polish devils form XVIII century literature I think). - Disco polo music was the word. Yeah... yeah, that is it. "Ona tańczy dla mnie" is dico polo. - The woman is Lucyna- Lucypher - morning star fallen angel. The one from Dante Alighieri, Divine Comedy.
yes! you do it ;P according to legend, he was given knowledge, wisdom and immortality by the devil. Bizarrely, this made him understand that he needed to get his soul back. ps.the songs you hear in the productions of alegro are Polish hits from years ago, I'm not sure but I think the authors have given up their copyright and it's like open source now?
In all the series "Legendy polskie" the music plays a key role. Many of the songs are covers of classics very famous and every song is part of tne narration on screen. That's an added value to these short films.
FYI it's a two parter :D I love these Allegro videos. Hope you go thru them all (about 9 videos or sth). Also, check out the last 20-30 seconds of each vid, there are clips at the end. I also love that before you watch this video, you check out what the legend is about. This is very important, otherwise how would you know what's going on as a foreigner? :D Brilliant stuff, as always. Keep up the good work. Love your vids! Andddddd your Polish is improving :D
Bravo Rob! Your Polish is getting better all the time. It’s so nice of you to popularize Poland and it’s culture. I used to live in London and I must say that the perception of Poland and Poles in the UK was rather stereotypical and negative. Your Chanel might be contributing to a positive change in that respect. The series about Polish Legends is great, especially because it has a more contemporary take on them. I’ve watched 6 episodes so far. They are all very well done. Obviously, someone familiar with the legends and with the Polish music used in those movies will likely appreciate these series more. The subtitles aren’t the best, but they’re acceptable. Here is my translation of the final song by Marek Grechuta: Crucial are only the days that are for us in store... Crucial are only the moments we are still waiting for... Crucial are only the days that are for us in store... Crucial are only the moments we are still waiting for.. There's been many days, when we couldn't go on. But then splendid ones, splendid days came on... When you have regrets about pointless ones, The only thing worth knowing then is this, and merely this: Crucial are only the days that are for us in store... Crucial are only the moments we are still waiting for... Crucial are only the days that are for us in store... Crucial are only the moments we are still waiting for... All the best to you!
1:27 Devil finaly caught Twardowski and tried to took him directly to hell. Once in that situation, Twardowski started his prayers to the God and his prayers were so pure and clean, that it made devil uncomfortable so he dropped Twardowsky, who safely landed on the moon.. and that's were legends end, if i'm not mistaken - he never returned from there ;)
4:16: We have a saying, where the Devil can't he'll send a woman. 4:29: Mephisto is short for Mephistopheles, a demon from Faust 6:50: The idea is that he made the tea with holy water. Tricking a demon into drinking holy water is a recurring trope that they're playing with here. 8:15: Disco Polo.
CD projekt Red placed the character of Twardowski in the add-on to the game The Witcher 3. There as the character of Olgierd von Everec, who sold his soul to the devil. In one of the missions that starts the add-on, Geralt of Rivia fights Olgierd, the scene is from Sienkieiwcz Trilogy (Polish writer, Nobel Prize winner) The Deluge.
Actually, it _was_ one of the devils. In "Legendy Polskie," Hell is a corporation, and they sent a junior officer. Twardowski inquired about one of the senior management (Mephisto). The answer was: He's in Sochi (the location of Putin's famous summer palace).
As hard as it might be, check if there's a translation for the audiobook. There's an interview between the actual Polish Devil and a journalist, and there's more on Twardowski and the actual story, about the magical mirror and the necromancy there originally was. ;)

Here are some key points about the origins of Disco Polo:
Inspirations: Disco Polo drew inspirations from Western disco music and traditional Polish folk tunes.
She's a wife of a popular Polish youtuber: ZDVPY. Great video mate
LEGENDY POLSKIE " JAGA": You will also love it!
... Jaga is last in the series. They are all connected, they are one coherent story in chronological order.
It's on the list 😊
To be honest, I haven't really thought about which one is the last one. But now... Yea... I guess "Jaga" is the last one.
@@freuer007 also... Music videos to covers (new rendition) of the songs included in films are telling (without dialog) additional stories about characters. It is very woth checking them out.
Edited
Right. So not a Divine Comedy but Faust, he was supposed to have had sold his soul to Mephistopheles. This is referring here to that.
Earth reflection in the visor, he is standing on the moon. And there is a post credit shot later. You missed it.
It's a pity, they didn't made Twardowsky 3.0
The story is not finished. Allegro stopped producing this story on second part. 😥😭
WoW Robert, your polish is getting better and better 👏.
Good reaction 🤣 and you were looking for "disco polo" shit wedding party music.
The last song you heard was of Grechuta, whole album is about most important things in human life. If I'm not wrong it was called " seven important words " or something similar. My memory is not so good anymore, but worth for you to listen to this album if you can find transaction or you carry on improving your polish 😊
Translation*
U must see on Sabaton History video:"Inmate 4859" about Witold Pilecki. I guarantee U'll be taking Ur jaw from the floor. He was 1 of the greatest heroes in polish history.
8:29 This kind/genere of music is Disco Polo
DISCO POLO! ;)
She was just a lesser devil.
The original legend says Twardowski escaped from the devil to the Moon.
kobieta bez bolca dostaje fikolca (a woman without a pin goes crazy) XD
The company that produced that for Allegro is Platige Image. They are doing CGI for Netflix's Witcher series and much more. And what was visible in the visor of Twardovsky was Earth ;)
Hi, pls remember every scene in this fulfilled with small details and every part of it has a meaning. You shold sit with some native at least 40yo who could explain it picture by picture. I think it would looong evening (or 3) to get the full picture of how deep it is placed in polish culture.
Robbb on every next your movie on YT you speekin better and better in Polish :) "Dzien dobry panowie i panie" meeeen big Respect for you. You almost Polish hihihi. Nice Job Mate
I would not be offended if he pronounced the words: "dżem dobry" but the time will come for Polish signs. :D
Hahha no to to juz jest czepianie sie. Daj sobie spokoj czlowieku. Stara sie i jest git.
@@JRTP-Bart77PL spokojnie, dobrze usłyszałem. Było całkiem poprawnie. Nie czepiam się. Nie zamierzałem nawet.
Lubię Twoje reakcje. Polecam Bazyliszka. Piękna seria, nieźli aktorzy, super dobrana muzyka. Pozdrawiam serdecznie z Polski 👍👍🇵🇱💕
Rob you are best, Mate. the way how you bring Polish culture to the UK is a masterpiece 😉
9:32 yes, that's a glagolitic letter dobro lol
Few explanations: Mephisto comes from Mephistopheles which is a name of the devil in Mickiewicz's version of this tale (in that version Twardowski 'outsmarts' the devil by adding a clause that states his soul is only taken when they meet in Rome, a place that Twardowski has no intention to go to, but one day he visits a Tavern called Rome, allowing Mephisto to act)
Also in most versions of the legend, Twardowski escapes to the moon on a giant rooster to avoid honoring the deal
Also also, the story in The Witcher 3 Hearts of Stone is based on that legend - Olgierd is a stand-In for Twardowski and Gaunter ODimm is a stand-In for Mephisto.
Also also also, the actor who plays Twardowski here, Robert Więckiewicz is one of the top actors in Poland actually, he's in a lot of good movies like In Darkness, The Dark House or Clergy
Dzień dobry, Panie Rob !
Mephisto - or Mephistopheles - is one of the devils, and she is one of the lesser ones. In Polish lore there are a lot of devils of various powers.
9:41 What is that I think of now: two balls and a cannon? It's scissors .
Also:
- Popular in Poland version of legend ens up in Twardowsky escaping from the devil to the moon.
Read the legend. He did run away to the moon to hide from the devil.
yes! you do it ;P
according to legend, he was given knowledge, wisdom and immortality by the devil.
BTW, he played DISCO POLO to make her furious.
Yea that's exactly why I thought it was that 🤣
Nice to see how step by step You are sink in Poland Robinsky!😀 Like bishop in tar 😀 Be careful it can be addicting😀RGRDS!
FYI it's a two parter :D
I love these Allegro videos. Hope you go thru them all (about 9 videos or sth). Also, check out the last 20-30 seconds of each vid, there are clips at the end.
I also love that before you watch this video, you check out what the legend is about.
This is very important, otherwise how would you know what's going on as a foreigner? :D
Brilliant stuff, as always. Keep up the good work. Love your vids! Andddddd your Polish is improving :D
And now Rob, Watch Twardowsky 2.0 :D
There is more. My favourite is witch
She was the messenger of hell.
4:32 "Jest w Soczi. Umówił się z klientem na painballa". Jakież to się wtedy okazało prorocze...
There was an idea to make a movie about Twardowski
Here is my translation of the final song by Marek Grechuta:
Crucial are only the days that are for us in store...
Crucial are only the moments we are still waiting for...
Crucial are only the days that are for us in store...
Crucial are only the moments we are still waiting for..
There's been many days, when we couldn't go on.
But then splendid ones, splendid days came on...
When you have regrets about pointless ones,
The only thing worth knowing then is this, and merely this:
Crucial are only the days that are for us in store...
Crucial are only the moments we are still waiting for...
Crucial are only the days that are for us in store...
Crucial are only the moments we are still waiting for...
All the best to you!
8:02 DiskoPolo
The best of all these tales. A little Masterpiece. :)
Nie wiedziałem że jest taki film o Twardowskim:). Dzięki :)
1:27 Devil finaly caught Twardowski and tried to took him directly to hell. Once in that situation, Twardowski started his prayers to the God and his prayers were so pure and clean, that it made devil uncomfortable so he dropped Twardowsky, who safely landed on the moon.. and that's were legends end, if i'm not mistaken - he never returned from there ;)
There is a Polish proverb: "Gdzie diabeł nie może tam babę pośle" - "Where the devil himself is powerless, there he will send a woman instead" 😉
Love this movie. Waiting for Twardowsky 2.0
4:16: We have a saying, where the Devil can't he'll send a woman.
4:29: Mephisto is short for Mephistopheles, a demon from Faust
6:50: The idea is that he made the tea with holy water. Tricking a demon into drinking holy water is a recurring trope that they're playing with here.
8:15: Disco Polo.
Hi. This is a really well told story. In the last scene, the reflection of the helmet shows the earth, not the moon, and it's kind of in his mind.
Dzien dobry
"Dzień dobry panie i panowie" - wow, wow, wow! Welcome to the bunch of Polish speakers, Rob.
Second chapter is great too.
Rob, you must look crime comedy with this actor.
Very good comedy VINCI. Its one older comedy, but is perfect.
Dzień dobry Panu. Miło Pana widzieć. 😀
("Jaga" should be next)
Rob, please check all "Polish Devils" since we have our own and they weren't always bad.
Mefisto, Boruta, Rokita, Topielec, there is a few of them and they have their own hirachy
Marek Grechuta "Dni których nie znamy". Very good song.
12:30 one correction, if he's on the Moon, than it's not moon that's reflecting in his visor- it's Earth ;) "Blue planet"
You should also watch all of it Legendy Polskie, and of course a Twardowsky 2.0.
Great reaction. Regards
As hard as it might be, check if there's a translation for the audiobook. There's an interview between the actual Polish Devil and a journalist, and there's more on Twardowski and the actual story, about the magical mirror and the necromancy there originally was. ;)
Soon speaking Polish will be your superpower. 😂
You finally got it right ladies and gentlemen
