My ex was phillipina from Cebu and she turned me onto Jo Koy. He's great! Spending enough time with her I started to learn more of the cultural references he makes, it made it so much better.
that is because like the Hawaiian alphabet is only 12 letters compared to larger alphabets, and 5 of those are vowels. So many more vowels in words and names than say the american alphabet. So yes, lots of vowels in words compared to other languages. Plus they have their ' and * symbols to make 14 total "letters".
@@eolsunder exactly....Hawaiians & Samoans are very similar that you can see many vowels in a row, but you'll never see a consonant next to each other....Also, most Polynesian languages weren't written, and it was the Europeans who made contact with us that deciding to make our exclusively verbal language into a written language- hence why the English alphabet is what we all adopted
I live on Oahu. I'm in KAPOLEI .. right next to Ewa Beach. And I go to Wahiawa every weekend to visit my mother -in-law. I'm not sure when you lived here but a lot has changed over the years. I also saw Jo Koy when he came here. He's sold out show after show after show here in Hawaii, I think it's because we can totally relate.
@@TeacherandCoach2020 OMG you make me feel so old. I graduated in 1990. Castle high school on the windward side of the island "Kaneohe". Hope you both are doing well .. love your reactions. Filipina* spell it right please thank you
@@evan168 tbf both my parents are Filipino but until I was like 12 I never realised that you can't spell it as "philipino"
@@skjorta1984 yeah, it’s confusing because it is spelled “PHilippines” so it’s fairly easy to overlook until you actually search for it.
Fun fact: It's Philippines in the western language. But Pilipinas in thr native tongue. Fyi.
