yeah and can you believe that they barely jam as a band due to their jobs and differing locations? The vocalist said in an interview that they usually write the lyrics like, last minute.
I can't remember who, but one is studying/teaching (or was) Biology in some University in the UK. Ex-guitarist was a heart surgeon or something like that. I believe Niilo manages the band full time. Not sure with the rest.
Wasn't one an engineer or something like that? However, smart guys and doing godlike music in their past times from another planet...

I've come to realize that Insomnium writes some of the most inspiring music. This song and Through The Shadows are incredibly motivating.

What I always admired in INSOMNIUM's is their ability to genuinely transport their point of view into words and music. I have listened to any kind of music there is out there (from country, to drum 'n bass, from house/techno to classical, from metal to pop) and seriously, I never found such honesty in a song. This is not just a beautiful melody with some cheesy, faked philosophical-wannabe lyrics for menstruated 14 years old kiddos, it's an honest point of view, whitout the goal to convince anyone. They just share their toughts, their vision of the world and life, and they do it with such a gentle melody, such a genuine music that it can either make you want to scream with rage and pain or lay down waiting "in serene sleep". They don't have the goal to convince anybody, neither to offend or to show off something. They put their soul, their mind and their toughts in music: when I want to merely please my ears I listen to pop, when I want to loose control and to party I listen to techno-house, when I want to relax I listen to classical or country. But when I want to look the edge of the world, when I want to feel like I'm about to unchain the misteries of life, I listen to Insomnium.
Beautifully written and right on the mark. Insomnium is one of the most amazing bands I've ever had the pleasure of listening to.
Their music and their lyrics complete each other, and their lyrics alone are pieces of poetry, philosophy and science. And I love it to death.

Facts. My favorite MDM used to be Amon Amarth but ever since I stumbled upon Insomnium I love them so much more.
I love the lyrics of Amon Amarth, north mythology etc is amazing but the profound lyrics of Insomnium complement this genre of music so incredibly well.

Ever since I heard about Insomnium, I've been stunned and amazed by their songs, lyrics and melodies. This song just cast huge energy at me, made me feel proud that I'm alive and able to hear this masterpiece, it literally raised me from my monotone mood.

Beyond fucking amazing. Hands down their best album to date.
My absolute favourite melo-death band, the lyrics are also fantastic even if you can't understand them half the time, I'd encourage people to look them up. The lead singer (Niilo) is actually an award winning poet, nothing major, but there is a lot of deep meanings in their songs.
All ephemeral !!!!!!!!!!!! I have listened to this song 30 times approximately. The voice is slightly more aggressive than in the previous 2 albums, but yet the melody and the carefully crafted lyrics remain. I cannot think of a better band than Insomnium, honestly speaking. I have been to a concert of Insomnium & Moonspell, and it was one of those rare big moments in one's life.

Gotta say, lyrically this song invokes more personal feelings than other Insomnium songs have. I think this has come out at just the right time for me.

Truly amazing \m/ the one problem I had with Insomnium's other albums is that the vocals were always WAY too low in the mix. This is fucking perfection :3
I liked it better that way, they put more focus on the beautiful melodies and atmosphere of the music, You can tell by listening to an older album i.e. The Day It All Came Down which would be my favourite Insomnium album, that it's not as haunting and atmospheric anymore whereas nowadays it seems they have more upbeat sounds instead of their chosen dark and ambient sound. I will continue to support Insomnium either way as they are my favourite MDM band in the genre.

it's times like this where I sit here and am just blown away by the sheer amazing music. Something that blows away all thoughts and hits you are your core. This is the reason why I love metal and this is why I obsess over this band.
Insomnium has always been about those amazing melodies, and this really doesn't disappoint!
One for Sorrow was also very diverse. This will probably their more catchy/faster song from the album, while others might be more 'classic'. I think they simply chose this song for the EP because it plays live out amazing, easy to remember and might help get them the broader audience they deserve. I agree totally on what you said though, but I love this song on its own, and applaud the Insomnium guys for trying out new stuff instead of sticking to the same things always.

I have been a devoted fan for a little more than 3 years, I know you guys hear this a million times but seriously, the entirety of "One for Sorrow" meant a lot to me having gone through the shit I was going through in my life when I first heard it. This song here, inspirational lyrics, well composed (as always) and truly one of your best so far. You guys are awesome and that's putting it lightly. Keep up the excellent work. Metal on.
Shadows of the Dying Sun was the best album of 2014, hands down. I like this version better though than the one on the album.

Insomnium is the best around, and no one is ever gonna keep them down.
Their singing needs tuning. In many bands, they at least make the singers voice pop out from the rest of the musical instruments. In this band however, they tend to blend the singers voice with the flow of the song which makes it impossible to map out exactly what they are saying. Imagine Batman screaming through the top of his voice without a microphone while their is death playing in the background. That is what this band seems to be doing which is fine but not my cup of tea.
+Christian Sharpe For me, this is EXACTLY why I love Insomnium and why most people here are in love with the band. They make the singer blend so perfectly with the rest that at some point the guitars are doing the chorus (this song doesn,t do it justice though, since it's... "lighter" ). The voice in this band is another instrument on par with the others. I hope they never change that! It is what make them standout; one of my friend who's now in love with the band almost consider them an instrumental band. Anyway, I'm just trying to say that it's not something that they can do better; it's a choice they made and I'm damn proud they are sticking to it!

Dude. Insomnium has always been about both positive and negative tones. Their songs have always been somber yet with a hopeful undertone. Depressed yet beautiful and strong heart-ed. This is just like Weather The Storm. Catchy, hopeful, strong. Made to be a single. I am sure they will have all their usual style in this album
