    To see the lights and shadows would it be good to use a black and white photo?

    • @Miriamhoffmann
      @Miriamhoffmann  Рік тому +1

      Yes! You can definitely do that! I do it all the time. I just take whatever reference photo I’m working on and turn it black and white. Easier to see lights vs darks that way. At least for me it is!

    This is oil paint?

    Would this technique be possible with acrylic? I feel like it would, I’d just have to work faster right?

    • @friendlyghost5288

      Maybe an acrylic underpainting and oil paint on top? I’ve never used oils but have been really wanting to try after finding your channel.

    So it's a grisaille, your underpainting ? (One color (ochre?), medium, and solvent) .. i think if it is its probably important for folks to know there's no white in there to start - any whiteness at that stage (before forehead color) is from the surface (i think!). Just mentioning/asking this because white in the grisaille stage would really mute colors added in future stages with this alla prima method.. at least in my experience?

    What color picker tool are you using?

    Your painting looks much more stressed than your photo.
