    Hello hello! Who’s into the bell sleeve trend? This is the second bell sleeve top I’ve made so far so I guess I am 😄 You can definitely use the sleeve part of this tutorial and add the bell sleeves to other bodices and dresses, too, so if you wanna add a little extra flair to some of my other tutorials, this is a fun way to do it! I’m seeing a bell sleeve skater dress in my future 😉 Have a wonderful day!

    i just got a new long sleeve dress and i wanted a bit more of drama. So knowing how to make the bell is so helpful and i can add to the dress without destroying it. thank you

    Fabulous video, thank you! I love bell sleeves. Will this method work with non-stretch fabrics, like rayon or cotton? Or would you need to make some adjustments?

    Rewatching this after TRULY discovering stretch knit fabric. Ordered 18 yards of fabric from mthopefabrics.com (4 at 4 yards each for my mom, one at 2 yards for my daughter) so I could make some dresses. My daughter's new dress looks great! I haven't made mom's yet. I think you'd love the florals. When I get enough money, I'm planning on ordering some for myself and making THIS into a maxi dress.

      Aw thank you so much! I’m so glad you liked the tutorial 😃 I always had a hard time sewing my own clothes as well especially when I was using store bought patterns, but once I started sewing this way using other clothes as the guide (which is how all of my sewing tutorials actually are) I had so much better results, so I really hope you will too 😃 Have fun and happy sewing! • @ComicatCreations
      @ComicatCreations  5 років тому +1

      Thank you, so glad you liked it! Unfortunately I don’t know what’s wrong with mine either, so frustrating 😫 Usually when I have issues, I’ll change the needle to a new one, try to rethread it and the bobbin too, and make sure I’m using a good quality thread (when I use super bad quality thread I find it breaks and messes up all the time) and that’ll help so if you haven’t already I’d try those tips, but unfortunately my machine is still messing up and I don’t know why! I hope you’re able to fix yours and get it figured out soon!!!

  • @carmenhoffarth4559
    @carmenhoffarth4559 5 років тому

    Just found you. This is a great tutorial... thank you. Question: can I use cotton or is a jersey knit better because it hugs the body.

    • @ComicatCreations
      @ComicatCreations  5 років тому

      I’m glad you like the tutorial! You’ll definitely want to use a stretch fabric for this so you get the great fit because a regular cotton would have to be made differently since it doesn’t stretch, and I find that four way stretch fabric seems to work the best too 😃 Sorry for the delay in responding to your question, I’d been under the weather for a while and I’m just finally getting caught up! Thank you so much for watching and happy sewing!

    if i used a not stretchy fabric but sewed in a zipper or buttons would this still work ?

    • @ComicatCreations
      @ComicatCreations  4 роки тому

      This is gonna work best with stretch fabric because even with a zipper or closure it wouldn’t fit right with non stretch. The front would have to be cut differently and have some darts to fit around your figure properly. I do have a playlist with all my nonstretch fabric sewing tutorials you may enjoy if that’s what you have to work with 😃

  • @piper6639

    My fabric does not stretch... can I still sew this?

    • @ComicatCreations
      @ComicatCreations  4 роки тому +1

      Hi, I'm so sorry I'm just seeing your question!!! Unfortunately this won't work without stretch fabric, it needs to stretch so you get the fitted look and can take it on and off without needing darts or a zipper.

    Waooo another lovely tutorial thanks. But y did we use 1.57 and not 3.14

    • @ComicatCreations
      @ComicatCreations  5 років тому

      Thank you Fran! Great question - for the bell sleeves I decided to cut out a quarter circle shape, which actually only uses 1.57 to make. If you wanted to make them even more flared out, you could use 3.14, draw the shape onto a folded piece of fabric just like you would with a skater skirt, and then you’d have a half circle which would create a bigger bell sleeve flare. It just depends on how big you want the bell to be... you could even cut out a full circle for even more drama by following the formula and way you’d cut out a full circle skirt 😃 I hope that makes sense!!

    Why do you fold the raw edge twice instead of just once?

    • @ComicatCreations
      @ComicatCreations  5 років тому

      I just answered this on your romper comment but I figure I’d copy the answer into this comment too just in case anyone else reads this and is wondering 😃
      I like the look of double folding it twice - it hides the raw edge of the fabric and looks neat. Although if you’re using a fabric that doesn’t fray at all, you could technically just fold it over once and see if you’d like to, especially if you find it easier to do it that way 😃 Although if the fabric does fray, you would need to double fold it so that the raw edges are hidden which will keep it from fraying!
