I'm Indonesian, and based on what i research, most of the development in Batam are local investment from local private company and some from the government, they are some foreign investment but mostly still really small amount if we compared to Jakarta and other city on Java foreign investment. So yeah also Batam still problematic with their infrastructure, The sidewalk at Batam is mostly narrow and many are broken, still no genuine public transportation, for example No BRT, No LRT, No MRT, the only huge thing on Batam is their Mall, their apartment, and their road, not surprisingly even though is smaller than Jakarta but the traffic jam sometimes feels like Jakarta😅 thank you for visiting Indonesia, i hope you enjoy the time you were here at Indonesia

next time when you re visit Batam, try staying at i Hotel Baloi , is a newer district with all lots of ameneties such as massage, shophouses, street food, 2 shopping mall, BCS and Grand Batam mall, and their popular A2 food court which is very lively at night

That is like a kopitiam culture it's mostly available in south east asia. Satay is available in most south east asian country too like a meat on a skewer not only for known in Indonesia but Malaysia and Singapore too. I noticed some Malaysian cars as well. Kedai means shop
