The fact that most of these “anti-drug” psa’s were funded by alcohol companies, who sell a drug that kills thousands every year, kind of undercuts the message.
I saw these as kids, and I forgot how the 80s and 90s were only targeted at keeping people off drugs and not how to get help. Now after rewatching and then reading your comment, I see exactly why. It's essentially, "Don't use drugs or you'll be like this person. Be smart, have fun just drinking. And if you're an addict, you're a lost cause because the only addiction out there involves illegal drugs."
The way I see it is the message is the message. Just because the person saying it is a hypocrite shouldn’t change the truth of the message
I don’t think that’s really relevant. They stopped taking money from alcohol companies in 1997.

And for further context, the real-life Smoky was a bear cub that was almost killed in a fire and the forest service figured it would be a good opportunity to try and get people to care

California don't forget the inept stste government is responsible for the hyper flammable eucelyptus trees being there, the mismanagement of power lines, etc. And most big destructive forest fires are caused by humans doing stupid things. Don't let anyone off the hook for that to blame it on climate change.
The “Back to School” Sandy Hook Promise at 6:58 was actually filmed at my high school! Little did they know that for 2 years prior to filming that we also had issues with gun threats at our school. A boy threatened the school online because we had a transgender girl running for prom queen, the next year an underclass student was found with bullets in his locker, administration swept it all under the rug. But I am glad to see that despite all of that my school was used for an advert that has been powerful for the whole country

I went to a focus program my senior year of high school and we had only about 140~ kids in the whole school. Apparently one of the students had a hit list.. might've just been a rumor though.
Monokuma Thats horrifying. At our school there were 4,000 students so it was easier to be desensitized or not care, but with 140 they had to know everyone, so evil 😓
Hi, native Texan here! Jacqueline actually passed away in 2019 after battling with years worth of emotional/mental/physical trauma. Any child from Texas from the 90's/early 00's knows of her, and there would be times when we'd watch documentaries about her in school, especially when we were older and getting closer to prom (because prom often has teens that drink and drive). By the end of Jacqueline's life, she had lost the will to live, if I remember correctly. She had been born and raised in Venezuela but came to Texas for college. She died because of cancer :( A tragic life for someone so sweet and kind.

people getting their license have to watch a few short videos about the dangers of drivinf and drunk driving and Jacqueline’s story was part of those videos.

thats so sad she wasnt even the one drinking. i hate drunk drivers, drunks in general. and smokers. if i ruled the world i want to ban them or at least allow them only under super strict locations and situations, and anyone caught drunk driving or cant pass breath test lose all driving ability for life, no exemptions specially now that rideshare exists, theres absolutely no excuse to do it
The biggest problem with drunk drivers is the state takes ZERO responsibility for them and give them their licenses right back cause they want money
Say it a little louder for the people in the back!! This one old drunk guy caused I don’t know how much property damage in the neighborhood I grew up in. He couldn’t half-ass see as it was, and he’d drink all day and then drive the roads. I thought my Daddy was going to punch the old man when he drove onto our front lawn, and the cops (or rather, sheriff’s deputies😒) did nothing but tell him to go home.
True, but the drunk driver who caused the accident act as arrogant or belligerent, the times when a drunk driver does accept responsibility & sometimes thought they deserved a harsher longer sentence is rare.

Yep. I knew a guy who had SIX DUIs. Even had to serve jail time on the weekends for about a year. At no point did they revoke his license. Not that it would have stopped him from driving drunk.
I’ve been trying to get me dad to stop drink and driving for years and he just won’t to the point when I feel uncomfortable driving with him and when ever I tell him how bad it is he says it’s just like water when we know it’s not
The sad part is these shock PSA's are something people get jaded about after a while.

Yeah. Unfortunately, the human brain reacts to a constant barrage of traumatic images by desensitizing (or numbing) a person to that stimuli. Otherwise we’d all die of stress.
8:38 as someone that goes to high school in the US and has always gone to school in the US this is something we get taught from and early age. We from kindergarten and up get taught how to hide and barricade the doors and that it could potentially happen to us. We learn how to use school supplies as weapons as a just in case scenario, it’s honestly devastating that we even have to learn any of this.
[Edit: I know a lot of people had and have different experiences this is just what I had to deal with growing up. I know there is also alot of people who had to go through the same thing, doesn’t make it any better tho]

And just to think none of these happen in Europe (well OK almost none of the school shootings ). Europe is not perfect at all. But is n't it time to restrict fire arms in the USA? The dogma of "it's our right to defend ourselves".. "It's our priviledge by law".. it gets kind of old. People were beheaded and tortured in old times but we got rid of it. Maybe time to step into 2021?

It's a sad statistic that Rwanda has one of the highest child mortality rates in the world.
According to UNICEF, their 2020 Under-Five mortality rate is 34.3 per 1,000 live births. In 1994, during the country's civil war, it was as high as 276.4 per 1,000 live births.
"If you knew it was me" is actually considered a failed PSA. it didn't make people care about forest fires, but it did gain infamy for giving kids nightmares.
The school shooting one always makes me cry. It scares and angers me that we continue to do nothing. :(

I’m kinda surprised the “This is your brain (shows an egg); this is your brain on drugs (frying the egg or the updated version, smashing the egg).” That one is a classic.
These PSAs, as great a message as they are, as a child growing up in the US, after a while, you get very desensitized to them and even start to make fun of them.
I mean some are funny af.
In Spain we don’t have the same war on drugs but we have been fed thousands of videos for speed limits/drunk driving and man, I remember watching them in class with the whole class laughing, but it is because some just miss the mark too much and rely way too much on any kind of shock
That one is ridiculous 🤣 We definitely laughed at that one. Sadly rehab is not advertised for poor people. I remember seeing ads for luxury rehab facilities starring wealthy White people 😭🤦🏾♀️ What average drug addict has thousands of dollars to spend to relax and not relapse smh
I was waiting to see if this one would show up as well. I remember watching a few of the ones that were in the video, but the egg one is probably one of the most memorable ones out there.
Yeah, this one stayed in my mind for a very long time. Another PSA that I know I'll never forget was one where a boy took drugs and was seeing humans as mannequins. He thought he went crazy and went home just to realise the same thing was happening with his family members. So he took a baseball bat and hit all the mannequins looking like his family to the point of destroying them completely, then the PSA shows us that in reality he just killed his parents and brother because of hallucination.

The sandy hook promise one made me cry, I don’t know if they knew that the children at sandy hook were only 6-7 years old. My school had daily threats/lockdowns and the fear you see in the psa are very accurate to what we felt irl, it’s not unusual for an American kid to come to school and think it could be their last time.
Tbh my school currently gets a few threats and ever since I was old enough to remember lockdown drills, I've been horrified of coming to school and have constant anxiety. In fact, due to paranoia I always tell my mom how much I love her before school
I used to teach elementary in the US, and we had shooter drills once per month. We had to practice teaching the kids to under under the desk and to be quiet in case someone was coming to kill them. We did this EVERY MONTH.
Then I came to teach in Korea. The concept doesn't exist here at all. The first few months I taught here, I jumped when I heard a loud sound, because I was so anxious from the shooter drills in the US.
I teach in Japan. Same.

I remember the first time I saw it, I thought it was like a Target commercial for school supplies and then you started to hear the gun shots. The sad part is that it wasn’t surprising :/

There's a lot of information out there about the War on Drugs, but it can be hard for an American to sort through, let alone foreigners. As mentioned by someone else, in short, it was created by a certain administration in order to target racial minorities and political dissidents. This is unfortunately no speculation; there are public government documents one can read. Another often overlooked aspect of it is that a lot of drug addiction here is due to our poor medical system: for instance, for a long time I was unable to afford the medication I needed to not be in pain, so I self-medicated with drugs and cigarettes because it was more affordable than real medication. I also live in West Virginia, which was the center of what's called the "opioid epidemic," where doctors were paid by drug companies to over-prescribe highly addictive pain killers which have caused a lot of addiction and death. (Recently four companies were found guilty of purposefully fueling the opioid epidemic and forced to pay $26 billion dollars.)
I already saw some clown in the comments saying “who cares what someone said just stop making it a race issue you’re the problem”. They don’t even believe it when the government admits it
Regarding the last one, the PSA for shoeboxes, at the time there was a civil war happening in Rwanda that was absolutely devastating - one side was killing men, women, and children pretty much indiscriminately and forcefully removing people from their homes. There's a great film about what was happening at that time called Hotel Rwanda starring Don Cheadle. It's worth a watch.

Meth is a very dangerous drug and a problem here in the States. They can cause a lot of issues and it's so bad that a lot of medication is locked behind cabinets because they can get cooked to make Meth.

I have two uncles who are retired members of the US Forest Service, they spent their lives both on the ground and in the air fighting forest fires all over the US. I'm grateful that they are safe now, especially since fires have become so much more frequent and hard to manage, but the work they did was so important all the same. And part of it was that my uncle Ralph was always the one in our community who got the job of wearing the Smokey the Bear mascot costume for parades. Even as an adult now the character always makes me think of him!

10:50 its common to have campaigns at schools/communities to send shoe boxes filled with aid (food, clothes, toiletries etc) to countries struggling with a crisis.. this PSA plays on/critiques this practice
yeah i’m from the uk and all the schools around where i live do this at least once a year for christmas if not more often but i never knew that the shoe boxes had a double use in some cases …

When i first saw them on tv back in the day it didn't affect me as much as it does now because i have kids now. Absolutely gut wrenching. Thank you for reminding us.
Hey, idk you at all but I've been in a school shooting and I just wanted to say please take care of your kids and please teach them. My parents didn't grow up with this and didn't take it seriously and when im in therapy these days I often wish I'd been prepared or had my parents support afterwards. Like I said, idk you at all and idk why I'm commenting. I guess I just felt a sudden urge to reach out? Please just please keep them safe.

I don't have kids but I have family members who are in school and it's so scary.
honestly most PSA's just traumatize people but never really help the situations they are advocating for. I think the only actual successful PSA in america has been Smokey the Bear but almost all of the PSA's and commercials featuring Smokey aren't as scary as the one you guys showed.
I think PSAs only work if there is a clear solution to the problem they're displaying. For a drug PSA, it makes sense to traumatize someone before they actually get traumatized by drugs. And in the end, you should want to not take drugs. But for something like the school shooting ad. Millions of people have probably seen that ad, but I bet you, almost no one remembers Sandy Hook Promise. When you see the shooting ad, all you think is, "damn, I guess that is still a reality for us... okay." And then you move on to something else because there is not much you can really do about.
@@derpman The problem is that a sensationalized blanket message is worse, as we see with a lot of anti drug messages. Sweeping everything under the blanket umbrella of "drugs" and then making everything look as bad as meth means anyone who does weed or some other low risk drug and realizes that their face didn't melt off will just discount the whole method.
Since these PSA's the opioid crisis is worse than its ever been. Its been proven that programs to get kids to not use drugs increase drug use lime D.A.R.E., the whole thing flat out never worked.
@@Jayngfet Yeh, I'm just saying that there are some PSAs that don't really have anything specific that they want the viewer to do. In that case, the PSA is useless.

@@derpman I think the school shooting one can't really be compared to the drug one because you're right, there's nothing we can directly do to stop shootings the same way we can promise ourselves to not do drugs. But, it forces anyone with even a modicum of a soul to stare at those frightened school children and think "Fuck, that isn't right. That sort of tragedy shouldn't cause everyone to slump in defeated acceptance because that just *happens*...it's not a normal part of life." Its purpose is to bring awareness, political and emotional investment to a topic that so many Americans are desensitized to.
I've personally encountered many (gun loving) people whose emotional ranges devolve to the width of a teaspoon when talking about school shootings because they sense the issue of gun control is about to be brought up, making them feel defensive- which is extremely unfortunate.
To further elaborate, I've met one infuriatingly stubborn (gun loving) individual who was adamant that guns have nothing to do with the severity of school shootings, as other weapons such as knives and scissors would easily replace the amount of gun violence if guns were banned (he had some statistic about the amount of knife violence in the U.K. to prove this). Said resolution completely hardened him to the Sandy Hooks PSA- and not because he was desensitized.
And there's other emotional obstacles, like adults who have experienced gun violence themselves that don't feel bothered by the image of children at gun point because it's something they're accustomed to.
I used to substitute at schools full time, a teacher I knew made a dark joke to me asking if I was ready to take a bullet for a student even though I was 19 (at the time). Being asked that even in a dark humor way made me cry and stop working there until I was 21.
Every time I see that shooting PSA I can’t help but cry because it’s a real fear among students and teachers. I’m 24 now and teaching but sometimes the joke hits me during alarms and fire drills.
I’m in my 20’s, so I’ve grown up with school shootings being a constant thing to think about. I was taught how to hide, how to make weapons out of classroom objects if the shooter got into your room, and how to barricade doors. A friend of mine’s little sister was a survivor of the Parkland school shooting and she’s never recovered mentally. It’s sad that young Americans have grown up with that being normal.
I even worked for a middle school 2 years ago as an assistant office worker. We had to go through “active shooter trainings” where cops would pretend to be shooters and start shooting AR-15s and setting off bombs. We learned how to treat gunshot wounds and how to decide if the kid knocking on your office door is genuinely running for their life or wants to come in to kill you. We’re a first world country but kids have to live afraid that their classroom will be a war zone. It’s tragic.
Every other country have amended laws to prevent easy access to guns therefore it’s a choice the US makes. The US is ok with gun violence being the 2nd largest cause of death in children under 18.
In an average year, gun violence in America kills nearly 40,000 people, injures more than twice as many, and costs the nation $280 billion. This staggering figure is higher than the entire US Department of Veterans Affairs’ annual budget.
As long as you chose not to amend the constitution, the killing, suffering, trauma, the insane amounts of money will go on.
Outside the US, countries allow guns for hunting only and require a lengthy process of obtaining a license. When not used, bullets and guns have to be locked up separately.
If you thought these were depressing just wait till you see the ones they show us before we start driving lessons
did your school also have “Every 15 minutes” presentation? We have ours biannually and normally we have it in the field so they bring in the car wreckage + EMS helicopters. There was one year when they held a “funeral” for the car crash victims in the scene.

A suggestion for everyone about the Sandy Hook PSA: Now that you know what its about, go back and rewatch it and see what you missed the first time. The PSA does double duty here, telling a story and upon rewatch your brain picks up what you saw without noticing.
That sandy hook back to school PSA.. That ending always makes me cry. Every single time. She just sounds so genuinely afraid, it fucking kills me
Kids have active shooter drills now, just like we had tornado and fire drills. Of course, they have those too. I don't know what changed in the past few decades that it's more prevalent. My son was in 1st grade when Sandy Hook happened, same age as those kids. Still so horrifying, thinking of it twists my stomach into knots.
I can't speak to all of it but I think a massive part for how school shootings, shootings in general, have snowballed is due to Columbine and how infamous, or even glorified, it was in media then and since.

I was in high school when they started doing shooter drills. Which I thought was odd since I thought they were rare. But then over time I heard more and more about school shootings. I've learned that a surprising number of people don't keep their guns locked up, which should be a requirement to even have a gun. That and periodic free mental health check ups for the owners
I really appreciate you saying not all the blame should be put on drug addicts. Both of my parents were drug addicts, and seeing them as i grew up you realize they were just people with a lot of pain at the wrong place at the wrong time. I'll always love my mom and dad, even when they aren't in the right place. If you'd like to understand the war on drugs, how it effected black and brown communities, and how it led to the criminalization of drug addiction (which is usually always linked to mental illness) I'd really recommend going down the rabbit hole.

School shootings are very common in America . It’s so severe that the make and sell bulletproof backpack, jackets, and even regular clothing. It’s a serious problem that a lot of us in America are both aware and cautious.

Does anyone remember the one about wearing a life preserver, and it's just two kids sitting in a boat looking at their dead father floating in the water? That one stuck with me, but I don't know if it was a specifically Canadian one.
Its so interesting to see you guys have such an extreme reaction to these. I live in Canada and we get the same type of PSA's as these. The problem with creating so many that are so similar is that the kids get desensitized to them, not creating that shock factor anymore. Like yes I know every single one of these is bad and scary but at this point I can watch them with such a blank face its kinda scary.
The school shooting one brought me right back to an active shooter drill and I almost started crying. School shootings are far too common and put us students in the position of having to grow up way too fast to be thinking about how we can survive the school day
You guys should consider watching Girls Incarcerated - it’s a netflix reality show about teen girls in prison in the US. It’s really eye-opening regarding the issues that contribute to incarceration in young people, but it also tries to show hope and the possibility for change in some of the girls’ stories. It feels in line with some of the other content on your channel like 1000-lb life or these PSAs.
I remember this workplace safety PSA about this person who was working in a kitchen carrying a pot of hot fryer oil and she slipped and spilled it all over herself, it has scarred me for life omg

We haven't had a school shooting in the UK since Dunblane in Scotland, where the shooter killed 16 children and 1 teacher, injured 15 more and then killed himself. It was a Primary school, children aged 5-11.
It astounds me how Americans feel they 'need' to have guns, because of the violence, forgetting that there is a lot of violence BECAUSE of the guns.
As someone who lives and grew up in Texas, Jacqueline's face is one I grew up with and raised awareness (at least with my group of friends) about the dangers of drinking and driving. I'll never forget seeing her face. It was in nearly every classroom from the time I was in middle school or so. Her story is much older than 2008.

I remember seeing the "bathtub" PSA when I was about 9 or 10 years old 😳 and I think it scarred me for life. I felt afraid the second I saw the first frame of it in this video 😅

The PSA are very scary !!! Like the one in the school was at first upbeat and joyful then it turn very creepy and sad at the end so sad. We don’t have that in France and I never seen that in my tv. It was a good video tho 😅

That second METH PSA really shocked me, it was just terrifying to imagine yourself bathing like a normal day, you turn around and you see a person within your shower made into a ball and bleeding with so many scars... and turns out that it is y+ourself* from the future to warn you about the drugs in that party you were planning to go to. Straight up one of the scariest nightmares my mind would have never imagined on its own. I just hope I don't dream of it tonight T^T

As an American, I can say we see less drug ads now (at the very least none as traumatic as the meth ones). We had a so-called ‘War on Drugs’ spearheaded by President Nixon in the 70s and continued by President Reagan in the 80s. In hindsight it was mostly unsuccessful, one of the reasons being it targeted minorities (blacks, Hispanics, and other non-whites) even though whites were using drugs just as much as minorities. A member of Nixon’s administration even commented years later that the objective wasn’t drugs but to criminalize blacks and other groups that weren’t apart of the contemporary American culture.
As far as the Sandy Hook ad, that was shocking for everyone here. I don’t think it ever aired tv. It was more or less online only.

American PSAs are always so traumatic, and never effective.
Idk why you think they’re not effective, the research shows that generally they are effective. Maybe a specific example wouldn’t be because it wasn’t done well, but if you actually look it up you’ll find out more.
I remember watching these PSAs and more when I was really young. They fucking TERRIFIED me. Years later, of course, as a teenager, there were a few times I got offered drugs, and the first thing that came to my mind were the PSAs. I’m an adult now, completely drug-free. So, I’d say they’re quite helpful!

Fear based marketing is the most effective way to reach an audience, even for unexpected things like the fear of being alone if you aren’t attractive, so they’ll want you to feel insecure abt your looks so you buy their product. It’s sad, but it sticks with you.

As someone who has been born and raised in the U.S, those school shooting psa’s are very common. Ive gone to schools where they have to show these psa’s to help children be more aware. Last week there was a shooting threat on my school and half of the kids at the school didnt go. It’s crazy to think that kids other countries don’t have to fear going to school and getting shot
I've seen the school one multiple times and it makes me cry every single time
one of the really interesting things about the drug comercials is that lots of those came from campaigns based in the usa's drug laws wich are actually really bigoted. for example cocain and crack are two forms of the same drug but since cocain is mostly done by rich people it caries a lower sentence.
also it turns out that addiction is less about experimentation and more about family history and mental health, for example peopel with ADHD have a much higher rate of addiction than people without.
I hope that you guys can do a part two. There are so many different topics of PSAs that we have in the US. Many of which are highly important and I feel that it’s nice to see the reactions of people from other countries and what they think of them.
So when I was in 6th grade I felt a little dizzy in class so I was sent to the nurses office. The nurse gave me ice and told me to lay down, then said she needed to go to the main office and would be right back. She's gone for maybe 5 minutes when the principles voice comes over the loud speaker and says "we are in an active shooter situation. This is not a drill. An active shooter situation. Lock all doors immediately. The authorities are being notified. We have an active shooter outside on school grounds."
We were taught that no matter where you are or how many people you're with, you close and lock the door. If someone's outside you're not allowed to let them in, no matter who they are. Except I'm alone in the nurses office and only the nurse has the key to lock the door. I walked out into the hall and I *saw* a man in dark clothes with guns straped to his back peeking through a window further down the hallway. He was watching the last few kids running to get into rooms and making finger guns at us. I heard and saw the classroom doors slamming shut so I ran back to the nurses office, into the supply closet, laid down as flat as I could on the floor and wedged myself under a large shelving unit to hide. The closet had automatic lights that went out after 5 minutes. Eventually they switched off and I was in the dark. The cops came and chased the guy off the school grounds and into the woods before catching him. The nurse came running back, found me crying, pulled me out from under the saving unit and held me for a while. She had been locked in at the reception office at the front of the school. Apparently i had been alone in the dark for 40ish minutes. It was horrifying. The school didn't send anyone home and didn't alert the parents because "There where no casualties." I buried the traumatic memories and emotions without realizing it and they all surfaced as I grew up and the anxiety I kept feeling began holding me back in everyday life and academicly.
When I was 19 my little sister called me from the school football game she was at to tell me she saw some kid on snapchat had posted pictures of guns and said he was coming to shoot up the crowd. She had told 3 teachers who all told her it was either a joke/prank or that "boys will be boys. He's just being dramatic, sweetheart, don't worry about it". I told her to tell as many people as she could while getting her friends ready to meet me in the parking lot bc I was on my way to pick her up. I wasn't going to let my little sister become another statistic no one seems to care about. When I got there they where all climbing in when we heard loud shots going off. Now kids are leaving the football field and running into the parking lot. Screaming screaming screaming. Kids idk are climbing into and *onto* my car. I drive them 2 streets away, tell them to block the road and tell anyone who stops to call the cops and then I drive back to the school to pick up more kids. Did this 3 more times before the cops showed up. Turns out the kid who posted pics of guns was hiding under the bleachers and setting off firecrackers.
Kid was given detention and the rest of the students where reprimanded for "reckless behavior and public endangerment for creating a mob". No one did anything. In both cases we didn't make the news, no one heard about it and nothing was done. Why? Because we didn't die. And in America, that's what has to happen for you're life to be of any value.
The PSA about school shootings is terrifying. Going to school in the US is honestly a guessing game. You think everyday, “Is it today?” We actually discussed in class once who would try to take on a shooter, because the door to our classroom didn’t lock. Teachers talk about feeling like they should have guns in class, just in case. It’s hard to learn when you can’t relax.

I watched this probably a month ago and sobbed. Now my old high school had a mass shooting this week. Watching these PSAs are always heavy, but having it happen right in your hometown and in the halls you walked through every day is on an entirely different level. And there are no words strong enough to explain the pain the families are going through. Or the trauma that students and teachers have to live with forever. I wasn't even personally affected, yet I've been doing nothing but mourn for the past 5 days. Change isn't happening and that's a tough pill to swallow. Our only hope now is that because it happens so frequently here, the traumatized kids can make needed changes once they're the leaders of our country. And I hope the majority will vote for change too by then.
I'm from Spain and last year a student with a shotgun went to the college I study at. I had just gotten out of a shop with a snack, ready to go back home when suddenly I heard shotguns. I saw people runnings towards me and we were all outside, confused. Soon enough, one of the bus drivers told us to be careful. He told us he had seen a student with a shotgun. Thankfully, he only wanted to damage the college, as in windows, doors, classrooms, etc. A cleaning lady came across him and when she told him to please spare her life, he said he didn't want to harm anyone, just the college. I think that was the longest time my mom has ever hugged me.

In response to the school shooting one, the kids who were murdered at Sandy Hook would've started their freshman year of high school this year. This fact hurts so much
I live in the US and just graduated high school 2 years ago. School shootings were very much a big deal and my school did drills 4-5 times a year in case we had one. The sad part was our teachers told us if we did have one to just run or hide. Schools have defiantly upgraded their security and there are even conversations around letting teachers have firearms in the classroom in case of a school shooting. Sandy Hook was an elementary school that was a victim of a school shooting, which is the promise the PSA was funded from. The first major school shooting I can remember being mentioned was Colombine high school which happened before I was born.
The school shooting PSA always makes me cry. It's such a terrifying thing to imagine and its not fair that kids in the US have to have that fear in the back of their mind every time they go to school. There's even school shooting drills which really drives the fear home. My heart goes out to everyone who has ever had to experience such awful things.

One time someone in my class dropped their textbooks and everyone jumped and some people even got ready to run. Since we're living with the trauma of shooting drills so just books falling makes us think we're about to be shot. Even the teacher jumped after we laughed it off but after class everyone was talking about how they thought it was a gun.
This happened to me but instead of school , I was grocery shopping I heard a loud bang from the coffee section that was next where I was and I started running really fast until I saw it was just employees moving merchandise 😅

Part of what's shocking about the school shooting PSA is it starts out sounding like a retail back-to-school advertisement. Late summer-early fall in the US is back to school time, and there are lots of sales on just about everything. At first the kids are talking about their new things they bought for school are helpful for learning in some way. I think the idea is to kind of sneak up on the viewer to remind them that back to school means kids are back in danger for the next shooting.

Saddest part about this to me? They’re so common in America now that I didn’t even see a headline about it. When Sandy Hook happened it was everywhere, same with Parkland. But there’s so many more that never see national headlines; because of how commonplace it’s become the only ones that make headlines are ones with the highest body counts. That both disgusts and horrifies me. I hope you and your family are doing as well as you can be given the circumstances. ❤️

I'm only at 2:48 but I was completely shocked at how Yum didn't know the affects of drugs. It's so ingrained in my brain at this point in life and I'm only 18.
im in girl scouts and through girl scouts we did a tour of the news station so we acc watched the back to school psa be streamed live on the news from the news station

We had PSA showing in school. I have ptsd so I told my teacher that I cannot go because the PSA we were watching would trigger me. She didn’t listen to me and insisted that I had to watch it. She literally pulled me in the auditorium and told me that there is no way I’m getting out of this. Well when they started and it got to the uncomfortable parts I started shaking then all I remember is hearing my Firends fighting with the teacher. My Firends took me out of the auditorium and sat me down and got me far away from everyone. According to everyone as soon as I heard yelling I started screaming and crying and then fainted.
I can now watch these videos with out being triggered but it took a long time and lots of help and it can still affect me sometimes. The teacher never got in trouble and the whole school knew I had ptsd. After that I never heard anyone joking about these videos at least around me (and hopefully when I wasn’t around too)
My daughters and I did a PSA print ad, but the photographer loved my little girl so much, he took some pictures just of her whenbwe were done.

The school shooting pass still sends shivers down my spine, as somebody who lives in America school shootings are my number 1 fear and it never leaves my mind that there might be a shooting in my school
I've seen the sandy hook ad so many times and I still cry every time
I am 36 years old, and in my 9th grade of school we had two school shootings. The other years the guns were caught earlier, or the gun violence happened off campus. Even now as an adult we get two shooting drills a year at work. The kids here and adults go through active shooting drills that are now mandatory. My kids know "run, hide, fight" as taught to hopefully keep them from being the next victim. It is just the way it is here.
