Congratulations. I am heartened to hear that you plan to continue taking a slow deliberate approach to reviewing coffee and coffee equipment, and not jumping into extolling the "new" seductive, transient "flavors of the month" that so many other reviewers seem to follow for entertainment value and for subscribership number enhancement. Cheers.
Congratulations on the 20K! I think your no-nonsense reviews and recipes are some of the best out there. Keep it up!
Yay! Finally!🎉 Congratulations! You deserve way more subs with the quality of content you are putting out there. ❤
Thanks for the support. I don't take it for granted and really appreciate anybody who finds my channel useful :)
I appreciate that you treat your viewers with respect and express yourself like an adult.
This is a very good channel and I wish your continued growth and recognition.
Thanks for the kind words
Thanks for all your content, here and in your blog. You were the first person I started following when I started on my coffee trip... I bought the 1Zpresso JX-Pro in 2021 because of your initial review, and I'm still using it daily. From this video, I particularly enjoyed hearing you talk about your own journey into coffee. I love your honest style and straightforward approach. All best for your next 20k! ☕😋👍
Congratulations for the 20k and many thanks for these interesting and varied videos
Thanks Asser for the great info you provide in your videos and website which I reference regularly. And congrats on reaching 20K subscribers!.
Congratulations on the milestone! 🎉
Always nice to tag along the journey and listen to some down to earth wisdom in a UA-cam coffee space filled with hype.
Thanks for the kind words!
Glad I stumbled upon your channel a little while ago. I love the content. Keep up the good work!
Thanks, Cole!
Congrats! I’ve watched a few of your videos and didn’t realize I wasn’t subscribed. Now I am. Cheers.
Thanks for joining the club!
Thank you for all your excellent contributions to coffee culture, brewing & roasting.enjoyed learning more about your background. For me in this last year I would say that coffee is like a "black hole" pardon the pun. So much to learn & experience.
Congratulations on the subscriber count. Well deserved and a very underrated channel. I’m relatively new in my coffee journey and you have become my go to source for information. I appreciate your direct no nonsense approach. Your English is better than 90% of what I hear spoken in the USA every day. Cheers.
Thanks for the kind words, Scott!
Thank you for your wisdom and thoughtful work in your blog and UA-cam channel. I had been doing espresso for many years. In 20219 your recommendation of the 1zpresso JX-Pro and your brew guides opened me up to the delights of pour over coffee. I like your in depth, no-fuss approach to coffee. Keep up the good work!
Thanks Michael! Happy to have helped convert you :)
So much good info here! Thank you and congrats on milestone.
Congrats... I always enjoy your reviews, continued success 🙏👍
Congratulations, great reviews!
Congratulations!!❤❤🎉🎉
Congrats on this milestone
The Orea is amazing, especially the Big Boy for an extra large 860 ml cup.
Congratulations, I his was a great Q+A. I enjoy your content!
Ethiopian natural coffees are great for filter coffee, I guess I would chose the same country as my favourite 😃Congrats on the 20k!!
Thanks Anton! I love both washed and natural Ethiopians and even the rare honey.
Love your informative videos. Your accent reminds me of my uncles.
Thank you for your informative videos and blog posts. Often with unique content, or at least much appreciated added depth to the subject.
As a Q-grader, how is your working day/week look like? How often can you ”grade” and in what context does it happen?
Thanks David! In theory, I should get samples sent by CQI to grade. However, there are many more Q Graders today than when the program was created, so it's never happened to me, and I think the same goes for most other Q's. However, it's extremely useful to have gone through the training, and makes it easier to talk to other industry people, do cuppings, be calibrated with other tasters in competitions, and give feedback to farmers.
2nd round definitely needed.
I agree, an exciting time to be coffee lover especially if you live in coffee producing countries. In my relatively small city alone we have almost 50 roasteries with most of em are focusing on speciality coffee. In 2014 there were 4 commercial roasters, 2 independent roasters. Furthermore, because the gap between producers and consumers are becoming less and less, the quality of coffee is inline with the quality of life of the farmers.
100% this. The local people in producer countries are really redefining the 3rd wave to the point where it looks like a 4th wave. Especially, around South East Asia, it's fascinating to see the development at the moment.
@@coffeechronicler exactly on every point. Even in Timor Leste, our youngest brother but actually a rather old 'origin', the youth are so so active on evolving their coffee. But we could talk about every SEA countries (other than Myanmar perhaps) and the trend is the same. Sadly tho understandable, extrinsic values of coffee are seldom talked about in any coffee channel.
congrats!
Thanks!
Pretty interesting journey!
Do you know when the aeropress xl is going to release? And how much can you brew in it? 🤔
Congrats on 20K subs and thanks for answering question 😀
Agree with your comments about the Orea. I have two of them (large and small size) and it performs the same as any other plastic flat bottom brewer - nothing special although the changeable plastic bases are cool. The endless product teasing on Instagram is annoying though.
Ah, that's good to hear! I was worried about the angry mob coming after me. But yes, I find it hard to believe that this design is vastly better than Torch Mountain, Lili Dripper, and a lot of other under-the-radar flat bottoms out there. Not too mention the B75 which is almost too fast.
@@coffeechronicler Same here, I bought one, sold it after one month. It actually flowed too fast to my liking, made it difficult to control the flow with coarser grind size.
@@gimig91pulse pouring might help in that case, I found the brew guides that came with the Orea pretty helpful.
@@persianwingman I only pulse pour that was going too fast to my liking
Thanks for talking more about Orea and zero-bypass brewing. I'm still trying to figure out _why_ putting more (or nearly all) the water through the coffee bed gives an inferior result compared to putting 70% (or whatever) through the bed. I'd really like to see some comparisons where bypass and zero bypass produce exactly the same extraction level and the flavours are compared (as well as things like grind size). There just doesn't seem to be enough proper analysis going on in this space.
I think there are a lot of different effects at play here and it can be hard to separate. It could be that the problem is not zero bypassing itself, but because the airflow is restricted in those brewers, the flow gets slowed down, and that is what's causing more "boring" flavors. At least that's what I have observed clearly with the Tricolate. You have to be very careful with agitation otherwise you're going to get 5-8 minute brew times and those rarely taste good.
Also, there's the other question of whether more extraction is always better. Traditional extraction theory says it's not, it's only recently that people have started to argue that more is always better.
Then there's the question of "evenness" of extraction. It's important with espresso because everything happens so rapidly. But with a typical pour-over, you can comfortably get a decent EY even with an imperfect brewer that allows some bypass. So in my view the discussion if mostly academical, if you put flavor first, people generally prefer a V60 over a Tricolate.
@@coffeechronicler Oh I'm comfortable with the viewpoint that more extraction is not necessarily better, that's why I said that I'd be interested in a comparison of flavours where the extraction is the same.
On the brew time issue, I don't run the super-fine Tricolate-style brews, my 22 clicks on a Comandante run through the Orea at under 4 minutes (usually closer to three).
The agitation comment is interesting. IMO this issue must exist, regardless of brewer, but maybe V60 "self-compensates" by increasing bypass (until the water depth isn't sufficient, whereupon it stalls in extremis)
@@mccrispy I think Hoff's Tricolate vs Next Level video goes into that scenario you describe. He dilutes the Next Level brew, so essentially adding bypass water. However, it seems that he actually prefers the bypassed brew. This combined with all my experiments makes me believe that "zero bypass" is a bit of a red herring. At best, it will save you a few grams of coffee for each brew, but you create a lot of new issues.
You can also think about something like an americano. If bypassing was so horrible, then americanos would be undrinkable, but many people actually like them more than espresso :)
Please do a video on what you're looking forward to in 2023...esp after the upcoming coffee expo
I'm your big fan
Congratulations! Could you make a movie about Timemore B75? Maybe comparing it to Hario V60. Thanks!
Finally someone that doesnt hype orea all the time god bless
Maybe they are going to "negotiate" me after this :)
The Orea is really good, but I still prefer my v60 most of the time.
@@coffeechronicler haha good one
Hey Asser! I would like to know more about grinders' burr seasoning. Got a 1zprssso Q2 heptagonal a few weeks ago and was hugely disappointed by quite large amount of fines in a V60. Will the grinder become a bit better after awhile? Cheers!
Hi Michael, that's very strange. They should become better after a kilo, but of course, there could also be the possibility that your beans are tricky due to roast or processing and it's not the grinder per se. I have the old hepta-intl model as well as the X Pro that shares burrs with the new Q2, and they are both low-fines for hand grinders.
Been a long time follower of your channel! Always loved the content and ideas you’ve put out!
Super cool that you’re able to do this giveaway, but but if a shame that most of the bonus points require instagram.
Thanks, Andrew! The reason for IG is that followers are semi-public over there, while other platforms are hard to verify. If you don't have IG, then just write "n/a" in the field, and then you'll get the extra entries anyway.
im with you with the country. actually the panama origin is from ethiopia
You could argue that all coffee is :)
@@coffeechronicler yea so it is. All comes from geisha village :)
Honestly, your content is fantastic. Particularly that its not your native language. A lot of nuanced well thought out views. Unfortunately I think UA-cam favours razzmatazz, showmanship and sensationalism theses days but Ill continue to keep supporting. Great channel
Thanks for your wonderful videos. I will have to stop watching soon because my wife thinks you're more handsome than I am (she's not wrong).
