I was there that night. The most electric atmosphere i have ever felt in a game. The tension was unbelievable, the crowd screaming and chanting non stop, every tackle every pass made we reacted. The game was fast and hard as any i can remember. Every player was fighting for any bit of space he could gain. That night every wigan player must have took 2 hours to come down off that. I remember the fireworks you could see but not hear because of the chanting and screaming of the crowds singing that famous wigan chant "Here we go, here we go here we go" even the women was screaming with passion. Never again will i experience another night like that.
One of the best games ever, 2 top teams, used to love going to central park on boxing day to watch wigan v saints anything but a friendly, got to know andy gregory when he played and coached Salford in later years my team, happy days .
Early days in the development of a great team. This was the best sporting occasion I have ever experienced. God knows how may people were really there. Electric! Stephenson was a great kicker.
Sad to witness how far English RL has fallen since those heady days of the 80s and 90s. No characters ,no atmospheres. I don't even watch the highlights of "super" league any more.
Superleague and sky have killed league. Watched the grand final on saturday and it was just running straight into the opposition and repeat. No magic spark or flair anymore. Rip rugby league
Footy is dying Australia as well. When i was a kid playing junior league it would take all day, with multiple teams playing on different feilds at the same time, just to get through the list of games. Now they're struggling to get enough kids to make up 2 teams for each age group.
@J G If "Soccer" is so great why don't you support an Australian Team? Is because they are all crap just like your beloved Manchester United at the moment. A team Light years behind Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester City.
yeah, bring back more head/brain injuries and damaged necks and shot knees and backs from wank/dangerous tackles and punching you fucking plum! School mate of mine that played for Hull, Leeds, Newcastle Knights was introduced to the crowd at a game last season he could barely fucking walk and he'd only turned 50!
I saw Ron Gibbs at a servo in Dubbo a few yrs ago. No beer belly, muscular arms. He must have be keeping himself in shape. Looked like he could run through a brick wall.
It's a shame 😔 to see the game nowadays. When Superleague first got started and then had the world club challenge as part of the regular season, it was electric. The fact is there are a lot of options for kids and families 👪 to spend time and money on like tiktok gaming and Netflix. I just hope the managent and clubs on both sides of the world 🌎 (Australia) can work together and give us something we can make great again.
Take out the high shots and cheap shots, play the game in the same manner as this and rugby league wouldn't be in the trouble it's in in England. Spent twenty+ years trying to speed the game up but it's no quicker than this. Why have the powers that be ruined it???

Lived in Swinley about 3 streets away behind the ground at the time remember listening to the crowd as we walked to the ground ❤
Wow. Just wow! Was working behind a bar in Hindley that night and I could hear the crowd 4 miles away as I was walking to work.
MANCHESTER UNITED shame you cnuts not won fk all in a long time.😏
What a night that was. Couldn’t move in that ground. Magic players that era at Wigan.

@@wufongtanwufong5579 Most people are scared of a bit of rough stuff these days and there's no biff or shoulder charge anymore.
This match was one of the most high pressured, intensive, atmospheric games of RL ever to be played.

@J G Manchester United are still shit.
Great to hear Fordo's commentary again
One of the truly great domestic sides, northern or southern hemisphere
Wow , those were some real players back then just wow , and Graham Lowe wow
I was 14 watching this from the bridge over the river, it was 4 deep on the bridge too
Central park , Wigan. That roar upset the ozzies and anyone else, more than the pack in recent decades. I miss CP.
I was there with my late Dad that night.
Glory days. Sadly long gone.😞😞😞😞😞😞😞
2021 where’s all the Wigan fans gone 💁🏿♂️
you don't get crowds like that today :(
I was there. What an atmosphere! Ronnie Gibbs clotheslined Joe lydon!!
Sorry to say that the game has been over sanitised to within an inch of its life. Most games advance, RL has gone backwards. Bring back the biff

@@tonyfranklin8306 Was that Lee Jackson? He played for Hull, Leeds and Newcastle Knights.
Mixed emotions watching the game, great Wigan side,so sorry the passing of Dave Stephenson, slovenly man and a great friend
I think you lovely man...🤔
What a night that was!!
that is the start of the madness that is the World Club challenge
Rambo Ronnnies last game for the Eagles, if he had of stayed on someone would have ended up in a wheelchair, Legend Ron Gibbs.

@@wufongtanwufong5579 I knew his brother back in the 80's , he was the same

Super Greg !!!
Great battles.
Why wasn't this game played at Wembley? The 89 game was at old Trafford and the 91 game played at Anfield
Very interested if I can use some of the footage in this video for a project I'm working on. Who can I contact asking for approval?
It's public domain, knock yourself out
Get in their Shaun Wane
