    Great video! Quick question though. I’m an experienced Photoshop user but crop marks are brand new to me. I don’t print my graphics, because I’m usually designing stuff for t-shirt designs, etc. When it comes to crop marks, are these for people to cut the picture out evenly after it’s comes from the printer? I know a printer will cut specific sizes (4x6, 5x7, etc), so when do people manually cut out prints themselves by “freehand”? I’m just honestly curious because I’d like to perhaps try and cut custom sizes myself using this crop mark technique

      @GDHT  Місяць тому

      Thank you! Yes, you can use crop marks to let a printer know where to cut, and also you can use them yourself to cut a design out by hand (I use a ruler and an exacto knife for this). I have another video that talks about/shows this a bit: ua-cam.com/video/TBLMDiRhMNk/v-deo.html

    might sound stupid but I haven't seen this in real life😅😅, after it is printed this way, is there a machine that cuts it precisely or we do it manually(I am asking since I am creating visiting card for a small startup)?

    • @GDHT
      @GDHT  17 днів тому

      Not stupid at all! I generally cut my own if it's 10 cards or less. If you have more than that, it might be worth it to take to a printer. I use an exacto knife and ruler if I do it by myself. :)

    This needs to be a prerequisite for any designer. I've worked in print for 20 plus years and the worst designers for setting things to be print ready are university graduates !!

    • @GDHT
      @GDHT  7 місяців тому +2

      As a university graduate, I had ZERO clue how to do this coming out of school. And...I have a feeling my teachers didn't know how to do it. 🙄 Luckily, UA-cam saved the day in my first job.

    Hi! I just wrote a book and am needing to add a trim size to the pages. Right now the size from Canva that I created the doc as is wrong for the printing as well...any advice would be so helpful! thank you!

      It's hard to know without seeing it. What size is the Canva doc, and what size is it supposed to be?

    Kind of hard to follow when you get to deleting the box as it deletes my guide lines as well

    • @GDHT
      @GDHT  10 місяців тому

      Oh I see! You can lock your guides with view > guides > lock guides. Then you can’t delete them

    can you do this with multiple images on one sheet? I have 9 small images to a paper but it will not add the crop marks in when i check mark the crop mark box.

    • @GDHT
      @GDHT  10 місяців тому

      No - they'll need to be on separate artboards for that to work.

    Is there a way to do this with illustrator?

    • @GDHT
      @GDHT  Рік тому +1

      Yes! My next video will show how to do it in all 3 major programs (InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop). But the short version is, save as a PDF, then on the left choose Marks and Bleeds.

    how to do this for artworks larger like 10ft or so

    • @GDHT
      @GDHT  11 місяців тому

      Really, crops and bleeds are only necessary if you're printing a stack that will be cut. Usually 10 ft artwork is created and cut one at a time, so they don't have to worry about the art shifting. You can definitely ask your printer, though. Mine specifically said no bleed at all or crop marks.

    but we don't have time to make with many clicks😀😀
    I use Acrobat ptint production>preflight> 3mm mark and 3mm bleed setting. Next when there is no bleed and mark inside file, then one click and auto generated bleed and mark. This is called a rush moment solution.

    • @GDHT
      @GDHT  Рік тому +1

      It's a good option! Just have to remember to set up bleed area in the Photoshop doc.
